We could easily look at the semifinal matchups in Division II and rail on about how the seeding process let everyone down, but I’m warming up to the idea of an underdog playing for a Section 1 title.
Honestly, who expected Rye Town/Harrison or Hen Hud/Haldane to be here?
And one is going to be pulling up to Sport-O-Rama around lunchtime on Sunday, getting ready to play a traditional power for a championship. The odds are not good, but I do think both teams could be competitive on that stage because they can be very stubborn and they have goalies who know how to steal games – Mike Ciofalo (HHH) and Joey Livornese (RTH).
That would be a great story.
I’m going to be at Hommocks for Pelham and Mamaroneck and you can follow me @lohudhockey for updates. The more I think about this one, the more I want to pick the Tigers. I know we haven’t seen the best of this group yet, and I can see them going on a postseason run like John Jay put together a couple of years ago. The problem is, Mamaroneck has only played one game in 11 days, so I’m reluctantly going with the Pelicans. It’s going to be close. It’s going to be a little bumpy, and who’s better at grinding than Pelham?
