Here is the league setup for hockey I got from BOCES a while ago … and keep this in mind, I don’t have all of the particulars yet. I’ll follow up when school is back in session and the ADs have settled in.
I do know some leagues have scheduled home-and-home sets. Most of the groupings that include traditional powers have scheduled one meeting, along with a couple of mandatory non-league games against Section 1 teams.
Basically, Suffern, Mamaroneck and Pelham are free to log miles across the state.
Here’s your talking point … I did hear and confirm that BOCES was open to the idea of going back to a power-league setup, but the idea did not get enough support from the athletic directors. Some wanted to keep playing teams from the neighborhood. Many of the Rockland schools like to keep trips across the bridge to a minimum. Some of the other no votes came from ADs who don’t like the idea of making an exception only for hockey. A few of those folks would like to see a power league in lacrosse, again, too.
