This is where the intrigue picks up.
I will be covering Mamaroneck and Scarsdale and you can follow me @LohudHockey for updates. But wait, there’s more. Brian Heyman is going to be at White Plains and Suffern and you can follow him @bheyman99 for updates. Leave a prediction before you head out this evening.
There’s been no discussion that I’m aware of about canceling due to weather, but I’ll pass along the news if that changes in the next few hours.
No. 4 White Plains (15-5-1) vs. No. 1 Suffern (17-3-1), 7:30 p.m. at Sport-O-Rama
Previous meeting: Suffern 3, White Plains 0 (2/7/14 at Sport-O-Rama)
Scorers: Tigers – Phil Variano (32G, 20A), Matt Conroy (16G, 23A); Mounties – Kevin Hill (27G, 30A), Justin Tiso (21G, 11A).
Top defensemen: Tigers – Chris Medeot; Mounties – Tom Brennan.
Netminders: Tigers – Chris Stangarone (93.1%); Mounties – Nick Modica (93.5%).
Outlook: White Plains knows how to beat the defending champs and are playing with confidence after pouring it on against Clarkstown in the quarterfinals. An early goal would be huge for the Tigers. Suffern needs to make sure that Stangarone doesn’t open the game with a dozen saves. It’s a long evening when he is hot. The Mounties will have to be patient and precise when the defense packs in to protect.
Prediction: Suffern 4, White Plains 2
No. 6 Mamaroneck (9-11-1) vs. No. 2 Scarsdale (18-3), 5:30 p.m. at Ice Hutch
Previous meeting: Scarsdale 6, Mamaroneck 3 (1/14/14 at Hommocks)
Scorers: Tigers – John Wojciechowski (10G, 9A), Will Kirk (11G, 5A); Raiders – James Nicholas (34G, 48A) Devon Schell (39G, 22A), Matt Blakley (19G, 36A).
Top defensemen: Tigers – Brian Schiff; Raiders – Rob Burns.
Netminders: Tigers – Brian Carducci (87.5%); Raiders – Gabe Harousseau (87.6%), Anton Zock (89.8%).
Outlook: Mamaroneck is the deeper team, so the question is can the second line do enough damage to keep it close. The Tigers need a repeat of the defensive performance they put on against North Rockland, but will have to think and react even quicker against the most prolific line in Section 1. Scarsdale cannot let a young team get any confidence early on and must stay out of the penalty box to keep forward momentum building.
Prediction: Scarsdale 5, Mamaroneck 3
