Here’s our daily dose of perspective …
It’s going to be a very emotional day for the boys from Lakeland/Panas, who are heading over the bridge this afternoon to play Nyack/Tappan Zee while mourning the loss of Frank Celentano, a longtime Rebels assistant coach who died on Saturday at the age of 51. He stepped away from coaching after last season to spend more time watching his own kids – Frank plays club hockey at Marist and Gabby won another state field hockey title at Lakeland.
Head coach Bart Mucci’s first inclination was to postpone the game, but there is no time left in the season to make it up. He presented the options to the captains, and the decision was made to play on in tribute. There will be a moment of silence in honor of Celentano before the game, and the coaches at Nyack/Tappan Zee are getting memorial helmet stickers made up for both teams. When it’s over, the Lakeland/Panas team will hustle back to Yorktown for the wake.
Keep the family and the players in your prayers.
“Section 1 lost a great ambassador of our game this weekend,” Mucci said. “And I lost a great friend.”
