It’s going to be hard to beat the level of excitement we got yesterday compliments of Scarsdale and Pelham.
Perhaps the folks who do the state rankings need to make room for all of the contenders in Section 1 because the depth of talent here is better than ever. Think about the upset potential when the playoffs begin in a couple of weeks. You have to be careful of teams like White Plains, Clarkstown, Mamroneck and North Rockland in Division I. And the winner in Division II is going to have to survive three quality opponents with teams like Greeley, Somers/North Salem, Rye, Pearl River and Rye/Town Harrison capable of giving the favorites a run.
I’m heading for Rye Country Day School this afternoon for one of my favorite rivalry games of the season. You can follow me @LohudHockey for updates.
There are some other very interesting games, as well. Pelham has another test against McQuaid, which is piling up wins again. Clarkstown and Pearl River have contrasting styles and this meeting is no doubt going to be high-intensity. Greeley needs a win against an improving Monroe-Woodbury squad to avoid another losing streak. Leave a score, please, if you’re out watching.

The game was a fundraiser for the American Cancer Association. … Mamaroneck got two goals from Alex Ewald and two assists from Brian Schiff in the win over Mahopac. Andrew Varrone had the Indians’ goal.
