We’re starting to see the elite teams separate themselves from the mere contenders.
I’m not saying we aren’t going to have some really good hockey in the playoffs, but I’m beginning to wonder if any of the dark horses have a chance of surviving the likes of Suffern and Scarsdale or Pelham and John Jay. Those are my semifinal picks. I’m giving them up now, subject to change, of course.
Taking any of those teams out is going to require 45 minutes of near-perfect, high-intensity play.
I’m throwing a curve ball today and forgoing the likes of Suffern and Mamaroneck to cover a couple of teams we haven’t gotten to yet this season – Yorktown and Brewster. You can follow me @LohudHockey for updates, and I’ll pass along the scores I come across during the evening.
Scarsdale and Suffern are stepping up the competition, against West Haven and Don Bosco, respectively, so keep an eye on those games. Both teams are underdogs, which doesn’t happen very often. The late game at Brewster has upset potential if Mahopac continues to string quality minutes together against John Jay like it did last week against Somers/North Salem.
