Since they both won sectional championships and visited Utica last season, the most intriguing matchup today has to be John Jay and Beekmantown. Of course watching that one involves a lengthy commute, so I’m heading to Brewster Ice Arena to see White Plains and Mahopac. Both teams could use a quality win. Incidentally, the head coaches, Howie Rubenstein and Chris Lombardo, will be working on the same bench this morning with Apple Core.
Pearl River is facing Monroe-Woodbury over at Sport-O-Rama. It’s a needed test for the Pirates, who seem to rise and fall to the level of the competition. That’s dangerous at playoff time, especially in Division II.
If you’re out watching, leave a score and I’ll pass it along.

Game of the Day
Connor Ryan scored a hat trick in the final eight minutes to give Iona Prep a 4-4 tie with visiting Horace Greeley Saturday at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon.
Ryan’s third goal of the game came with 1:29 left in regulation.
The Gaels were down 3-1 going into the third period. Iona Prep is winless this season, but this game along with a recent 3-3 tie with St. Anthony’s could be signs of improvement.
Cooper Swenson had a goal and two assists for the Quakers. Sam Mishkind had a goal and an assist.
