The rule: A player who leaves his feet to play the puck shall not make contact with his opponent.
One of the biggest misconceptions in hockey is the play where a defending player leaves his feet and dives to knock the puck away from the opposing player. In this instance, if the defending players knocks the opponent down it is irrelevant whether or not that player makes contact with the puck first. Penalty – Minor.
