UTICA After struggling mightily in the first two periods, John Jay scored five goals in the last eight minutes of play to post an eye-popping 6-4 win over St. Lawrence Central Saturday in a New York State Division 2 semifinal at the Memorial Auditorium.
“I have 35 years of experience in hockey, and I have never seen anything like that,” said Indians head coach Alex Smith.
John Jay was down 4-1 when Shawn Smith scored with 7:27 to play in the game. John Tobin scored 11 seconds later to really get the adrenaline flowing. Lukas Prestamo deflected a blast from Anthony Scapperotti and knotted the score with 1:38 remaining and Jack Grimm lifted a rebound in with 59 seconds on the clock to make it a 5-4 Indians lead. Smith added an empty-netter in the final seconds.
