I booked my hotel about 10 minutes after John Jay added to a string of first-evers, and we’ll check in with the Indians during the week to see what they’re doing to get ready for St. Lawrence Central. There’s a pretty good chance I’ll do a live blog from the game. It’s worked in the past, so I’m fairly certain there won’t be any technological issues. More details on that later.
Here’s a look at the brackets for this weekend at Utica Memorial Auditorium.

A state title very attainable by Jay. I might even make them the favorite against the remaining DII teams. Good luck Indians. Bring home another state title for surging Section One.
Lets go John Jay!!! Take it home boys
Is Utica Olympic or regulation sized ice?
NHL (regulation) sized rink.
Bigger than Brewster, not as big as Lake George Forum
Brewster is not NHL sized?
BTW, Is THE VOICE, going to be doint the internet radio feed? and what channel will that be on. The football championship was live streamed… it was great. If John Jay makes it to the championship will there be a live stream? It is 2013…. it should be.
Not sure which was more amazing:
Edney’s shot to beat Mt Vernon in the championship game
or Malkin’s goal from last night.
I hope to meet you up there Mike. Safe travels.
Mt Vernon shot was amazing. The fact that the refs conferred and got it right was outstanding.
Two viral video’s by Section 1 this Winter ( Jock Sock and the Harlem Shake and Edney’s heave from 55) looking forward to what happens next during Lacrosse/ Baseball seasons.
Agree wih Hockey. Not enough credit given to the refs who got the call correct without the benefit of a replay. and then they ran for their lives in case they were wrong. Malkin’s goal was awesome, but no doubt in my mind which was more amazing. HS kid versus pro. 0.1 on the clock.
Good luck to JJ in Utica. No matter what happens, it is a great experience.
Can JJ do what Pelham and Rye haven’t been able to do???? Has everything fallen just right for JJ?? No WillyEast, no Caz, no New Hartford, really just no dominant team this year in Div II. This would be absolutely incredible. With the teams Pelham and Rye have taken upstate and to Utica over the last several years to think JJ would get a title before them is unbelievable. There have been a few years that I thought that Pelham or Rye couldnt lose..they looked to good. I’m rooting for JJ to win it all, talk about cinderella seasons.
Best of luck to Coach Alex Smith and the John Jay hockey team. You have played good hockey all year long and I hope you come back from Utica with a state championship.
N-W
Definitely. Stop by and say hello. I’ll be wedged in the press box. And good luck to your guys.
I will. Thanks!
Chet- I am sure Pel and Rye would love to be heading to Utica vs. that bracket. But, Jay earned their way there by winning a very competitive DII Sectional tourney. Went right thru the Pelicans and Garnets. The fruits of their labor is a real shot at the title, with no “buzz saw” team in the way. Keep your eye on the ball Jay and bring back the chip.
Anyone thinking that Mamaroneck regrets NOT going in to D2 like they should have? I’m not saying that they would assuredly win D2 playoffs… but they peaked at the end of the season, and had as good a shot as any top D2 team to win the section. Whoever won the section 2 championship has a good chance to win the state.
Mamaroneck overthought things and thought Suffern would be weak this year. They thought they would have had a better chance at winning a weak D1 this year. But thinking Suffern was going to be weak is a big mistake… possibly costing Mamk a chance at their first state championship. This is why you always just play in the division you are supposed to.
Dump and Chase- Mamo did lose to both Pelham and Rye. And Jay beat both Pelham and Rye in the playoffs. DII had 4 real good teams plus a solid Greeley team. DI had just Suffern and Mamo with a solid New Ro a few steps behind.
Yeah but even if mamk won D1. I doubt they had a shot at the state title.
Mamaroneck stead where they thought the odds were better, they knew they would have a more difficult time in D II.
