LoHud Hockey Power Rankings – End of Season
1. 1. Suffern (19-3) Found a way to win a fourth straight large school title.
2. 3. Mamaroneck (16-8): A very close second to Mounties.
3. 5. John Jay (21-1-1): Celebrating first-ever small school championship.

5. 6. Rye (17-5-1): All those wins with no home rink.
6. 2. Pelham (12-6-2): Needed goals to go with the grinding.
7. 9. New Rochelle (14-7-2): Added one more upset to the list.
8. 8. Scarsdale (13-8-1): Coming back loaded to play in Division 1.
9. 7. White Plains (14-7-1): The biggest surprised of the season.
10. – Greeley (15-4-2): Need to come back next season and put on a show.
Honorable mention: Iona Prep, Somers/North Salem, RyeTown/Harrison.

Mike, can you explain more about Scarsdale moving to D1 next year? I agree they are going to be loaded. Why the change?
Biff
It’s based on enrollment numbers. And besides, Suffern needs the competition. I think Mamaroneck is going to drop back a step and be good, but not like this season. White Plains and RTH will be strong if everybody comes back. Scarsdale, though, should be the best D1 school on this side of the river unless something unexpected happens.
Looks good except no way Rcds is 4. maybe 6 not 4. Not so sure Mamaroneck is 2 either. They lost to both Pelham and Rye
Suffern
John Jay
Rye
Pelham
Scarsdale
Rcds
New Rochelle
White Plains
Horace G
How can you put JJ at 3rd after that season, definitely a close 2nd behind Suffern..
opps forgot Mamaro put them before Scarsdale
john jay at 3…Really?
Mamo was a much better team at the end of the year than at the start. Same with Jay. Would put them even- 2 and 2A.
Also think DII will have 3 very strong teams next year- Jay, Pel, Greeley, in that order. My Garnets have some work to do.
mike,
faa is horrible…i mean, fieldston made the semi-finals!!...king got outshot 3-1 in the title game…and harvey was nothing to woo about this year
once rcds enters the d2 prep league and play home and aways with hoosac, kents hill, brunswick (down the street), south kent, worcester acad., vermont acad., middlesex, etc….then we’re talkin…
if rcds is up that high, then iona deserves mention (iona blew a 3/4 game lead against rcds…and went 3 games with chaminade in chshl semi’s)
iona beat greeley, lost to scarsdale by 1
Its too early as let Jay go to Utica and take care of business. If we talk about next year Rye will be fine I think. Jay is losing key seniors although they have a decent junior class. Greeley still will be short and will not be strong enough. Pelham loses only three seniors and has so much depth. Rye has decent depth too, worried about who is in goal for Rye next year. I see it as Pelham John Jay, Rye, then HG
im wondering what it takes for D2 school to be ranked based on accomplishments.
Mike if JJ or any other D2 team went 20-0 would they still be kept out of the running based on the so called easy scheduele.
c and d and CHSHL
No kidding FAA is horrible, but RCDS is good and belongs where it is. Once Iona get consistent, like next year, the Gaels will be a fixture. Took a good first step this season.
(and stop using multiple usernames, you drive me crazy every season, we know who you are, why hide)
Mike, so Scarsdale was just under the D1 cutoff and enrollment increased to push them over? Or are they like Mamaroneck and could stay in D2 but want to playD1? We welcome them. Much more fun playing good teams than bad. Blow outs are not good for anybody. I do like some of the suggestions made by others that the Section 1 runner up gets to play MW or Ithaca. Why should the get a free pass and a great team like Mamo goes home?
Are you saying John Jay should be ahead of Suffern? No way, and I m a division 2 team fan. They had a great two games last week, and deserve the crwon, but over all they are not better or near Suffern. Sorry. Schedule??? yes, that counts too. Jays “hard” games this year in the regular season? Rye, and it was a loss?
No we are saying JJ should be 2, Suffern is still number 1
the question is for Mike and not not “crazy thoughts” im not looking for an amature to respond
helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Can someone please tell me why LP isn’t up here? They beat somers with a freshman goalie and they even put up a fight against mamo and if they had their normal goalie they might have actually won.
Thanks Mike.
@fotg
Plus understand Rye has some very good freshmen playing modified that could have played large roles this season who will be moving up next yr. Normally Friesen puts a few on the team but decided against that this yr.
Jay and Mamo definitely tied for second place.
@C—RCDS a very solid team regardless of the weak FAA
Could easily switch around rye Pelham and RCDS in rankings
Mamo ahead of JJ? Not making sense to me.
At minimum a tie
Mike-
That’s incorrect. In NY, it is a hard line at 1100. If you have 1100 or more students, you are D1. If you have 1099 or less, you are D2. A small school can opt to play up, but a large school cannot play down. Scarsdale’s enrollment went up, so they are D1-sized next year. They have bounced back and forth a few times over the last decade.
What you described is more like NJ. They pull out all privates (insert Bigby giggle here) and then the publics have an even split down the middle between class A (large schools) and class B (small). Also, in NJ, any team drawing from multiple schools must play in A regardless of the combined enrollment size.
@slacrosse—Rye goaltending will be a zero next year, unless they have repeat of an Aaron Rix type coming back from Prep school. Friessen protected upperclassmen at the expense of some of those Freshman. Probably hurt him in the long run this season. Rye loses 9 Seniors. Of the eligible freshman, one is going to Prep school, one already transfered and the rest are Rye Rangers. Not much of a reload. Gonna be a long season for the Garnets next year.
????????,
Agreed, Friesen made another huge mistake this year by not keeping those freshman and opting to go with a skeleton crew. Those players would have helped the varsity team and benefited from a year of experience. Now he lost 2 of them to prep. Like I said, yet another mistake made by Friesen.
@???????????
Oh!
Question…
Why is hockey split into two divisions, when all other NY high school sports are split into five classes (AA, A, B, C, D) based on enrollment. Are there not enough hockey teams in the state?
Also, I quickly looked up Greeley’s and JJ’s enrollment stats, and both are well over 1100, yet both schools remain in division 2.
Enrollment numbers go by grades 9 to 11th. or 10th through 12th. Not 9th through 12th.
Mamaroneck does deserve #2 in my opinion. I felt they were as good as Suffern on Sunday. However, when it came clutch time…. Suffern was clutch and mamaroneck faltered. This loss will sting for a while, especially if Suffern wins the state again. The last time Mamk lost in OT in the playoffs was to Massena… who went on to win the state.
Some shocking News in the NHL. Apparently the New Jersey Devils will be forfeiting the rest of the NHL season for taping a Harlem Shake video. I mean seriously, what were they thinking, didn’t they learn anything from NTZ? Didn’t they realize making a video like this would get them kicked out of the postseason?

To the person who keeps ripping the Rye Rangers, whether it be by the name yup, huh or today it is ?????? please have the balls to put your name on your posts.
Mike , power rankings look dead on with suffern at top but not sure mamo should be ahead of JJ .
Mamo lost to Both Pelham and Rye . With JJ only losing 1 game all year and taking care of both Pelham and Rye I have to agree with the other posts . MSG got it right, sorry
power rankings
There’s no conspiracy against small schools. I’d love to see any team other than Suffern on top since we’ve done that story a few times already. The final rankings are not based on the body of work, but where I feel these teams are right now and nobody was closer to Suffern at the end than Mamaroneck, with John Jay a close third.
a fan
You answered your own question. Not enough teams.
I love hockey
Mamaroneck went 10-2 in its last 12 games and both losses were by 1 goal to Suffern.
You can’t compare the Mamaroneck team that lost to Rye and Pelham in the first part of the season, this was a totally different team from then.
“Ohhhhh nooooooo…....”
Harlem reacts to “Harlem Shake” videos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGH2HEgWppc
Stop bashing the Rye Rangers. Stop bashing the Rye coaches. My fuse is very short on this issue. We’ve gone over this before. Don’t go there. Period. Or else.
Lp beat somers and advanced honorable mention.,
Mike I would really like you to comment on this
Thank you
Lp should be included as well huge upset lost twice
4 to 3
7to 1
With sr goalie in net
Then upset them with modified 14 yr old 1st varsity game
He did not even have a varsity jersey
7 to 3 upset huge upset win
5 hole, If Mike ranked Somers /NS on this list and not Lakeland, I would say that would be an injustice, but he didn’t… If you look at the list and think that Lakeland could beat any of the top 10 then you have a point.
I think Mike nailed these rankings, of course it’s debatable, you always want to see your home team up there, I just don’t see L/P beating any of the above teams.
Rye coach should not get bashed Mike but you kept posting the stuff.
why does everyone think JJ is going to beat Queensbury. Queensbury beat Rye and Pelham tied them with a last second goal
5 hole
We’re talking honorable mention … LP pulled off an upset, great win, but it was one game. Look at the way SNS played down the stretch, from the 4-4 tie with JJ on, the Sabers deserved a nod. Can’t fault the effort the Rebels put forth all season, but they were up and down at the end.
Rink Rat
I don’t post each comment, they go up automatically unless somebody uses offensive language or is banned. I do read the comments several times a day depending on where I am, then pull down most of the unfounded nonsense. I rely on readers to exercise common sense and civility, and most do. I also know there are parents in each district who drive good people to coach at orphanages.
Just an honest question that maybe someone can answer. Why is it that the rye coach or coaches always seem to get bashed on this blog? I never seem to see anything questioning the coach of Pelham, Mamaroneck or any other teams.
JJ beat pelham 5-3 and rye 5-1…the way they’re playing right now I’d say they have a pretty good shot at beating a Queensbury team that tied Pelham and beat Rye. Also, Pelham and Rye played them in the beginning of their respective seasons. Both of them played significantly better at the end of their seasons.
they tied Pelham 2-2 and beat Rye in a 2-1 game. JJ beat Pelham 5-3 and Rye 5-1. JJ’s one loss was to Rye in a close game (4-1 with 2 empty netters) while they had an offensively off night with many key players in the box for large amounts of time. you may not want to believe it but J is a contender and they have momentum to keep going.
Thanks for responding, they deserved more press after that win they got looked over. Still think the upset deserved more attention.
censorship is always and everywhere a bad thing
to huh,
That is baloney. If whoever this person is who has a problem with Rye Hockey was out in the open, speaking from his own mouth for everyone to know who is saying this…. then I agree with you. But when you can take a hidden anonymous hit at coaches over and over and over… then that should be censored. Whoever has this major twisted problem with Rye is… they should own up to who they are. Say who they are… and bring it to the proper channels… the schools or the heads of travel programs etc. This is obviously a sick individual who can’t get over the fact that their kid was slighted (in their opinion) and they can’t move on.
As for other coaches not getting negative hits…. I’ve seen Mamaroneck take plenty of hits, as well as Suffern who has had to hear about transfers over and over and over. New Rochelles coach took grief this year too. So it is not only Rye who has psycho’s out there who can’t move on.
The reason why they are getting hammered is obvious. The parents have too much to say and are typical hockey parents. Its not the kids bashing the coaches, its the parents. The real hockey experts
Dont say other coaches do not get bashed or have trouble just because you do not read it here. In this era of athletics every parent has something to say. Its running rampant right now, and not just in hockey. Parents who do not speak out are the exception now, not the way it was. Coaches are unfortunately targets when parents do not want to put the end results of their childs performance on that performance. They want to put it on someone other than their child. The coach is the first in line, then its the childs team mates. (they other kids are nt passing to my son) (the other kids cannot play at my sons level, my son has nobody to play with crap). Some parents today are quick to take thier child off the hook when things do not go well, the coach is first in line for the bullseye
lets remember the refs get the most bashing. Parents/players/coaches. Oh and Rocket, glad the Devils did not make their harlem shake dance in the locker room. I would not want to see Brodeur bent over a garbage can.
If you are putting Iona in the discussion then you must consider Fordham Prep next year. They beat both Iona and Scarsdale this year with a very very short bench. The team is led by 3 Sophs and 1 junior who all play at a very high level. There are 8 more sophs who are moving up from the JV who can all play at a pretty decent level. If Fordham brings up their freshman goalie who is really strong and 1 other freshman skater who is a player they will be a very good team next year.
I would just like to let the commenters know that I have read all of the comments and believe it is unfair to Coach Friesen and the Rye Hockey team to say these things. Personally I don’t believe these comments change anything because they are just people complaining and people will always complain. You can’t do anything about that. I am graduating this year and wish the best of luck to Rye next year. Losing the seniors and having a new goalie with minimal experience will be tough, but this has happened to Rye before and they always seem to find a way to have a good team. I doubt next year will be different.
when do they come out with the all section teams?
to everyone saying RCDS isn’t as good as people say and to the people who are saying the FAA is terrible that is humorous. RCDS, King, and Harvey could beat any of the bottom 5 teams on this list and any of those 3 would put up a great game even against a suffer/mamaroneck type.
Agree RCDS and King could play with the top Section One teams. Don’t think Harvey could, though.
how did rcds outshoot king 60something to 20something
Ultimate Rye Fan,
Some coaches are better than others at getting their backup goalies ready for the next year. Some disregard their backups all year, and hope that they just somehow blossom in to stars. So if your goalie has no experience…. who’s fault is that? I’ve seen coaches keep their starting goalies in blowouts all the time…. why? I have no idea why they would do that. It’s also a good idea to schedule a couple of weaker teams to let your backup get a few full games in during the season.
RCDS plays FAA teams out of loyalty to the conference because the school as a whole is in the FAA (football, basketball, etc.). The good news is that the FAA is getting better through such competition. RCDS also plays a tough prep school schedule and had tough OT ties this year ith both Hoosac and Worchester which I saw mentioned. They also outscored John Jay in a scrimmage at the beginning of the year.
The comments from Rye and Ultimate Rye Fan are spot on. The best advice I ever heard came from a prominent section 1 coach at a Massena tournament in the mid nineties. The Massena folks were hosting an after game party for all four tournament teams and their parents at the American Legion. This is an arena that a disgruntled parent has long sought especially when the bar is open. The furtive comments and whispered conversations from the[ wounded pride and injured vanity clique ] were obvious. The lack of their son’s success was due not to their kid’s inadequacies but to their coach’s prejudices. All the coaches at our table were aware of this tactic and I asked the Section 1 coach how he dealt with it. His answer was clear and succinct and I never forgot it. ‘’ The amount of time your kid plays is directly proportional to how much time you spend talking to me.’’ A smart coach will savor that admonition.
I want to congratulate all the teams for a fantastic season this year. There were many surprises and great, competitive games throughout the year.
A shout out to my son, Nick, who played a fantastic game in net on Sunday for Suffern after suddenly losing his Grandfather on Saturday morning. I don’t know how he did it, but I am proud of his strength.
Good luck to Suffern and JJ. 3 more games Boys!!
@ Hughie: Fordham Prep went winless against Iona this year: a 5-2 loss, a 3-2 loss and a 3-3 tie. Mike has previously addressed why Fordham Prep is not covered by the JN.
@ c/d/chshl: Mike’s assesment of IP and ranking as an “Honorable Mention” team is accurate. Top ten teams find ways to win the close ones, which the Gales did the 1st half of the season. The 2nd half they made too many mistakes in the last 5 or so minutes of games (Monroe Woodbury, St. Joe’s, RCDS, FP, St. Mary’s) converting leads into ties or losses. IP has some good returning talent next year, so with another season under the new coach, hopefully they will establish the consistency Mike refers to.
would think if your part of the final 8 playing you would be top 10
We were all thinking the same of Nick – mentally tough kid – continued success to Nick and all the Suffern team!
You would think his Dad would be able to tell him this accross the dinner table and not on a blog?
i stand by what i said. censorship is a bad thing. if the complaints have merit, they should be listened to. If they don’t have merit than ignore them. If they don’t have merit but your ego can’t take being bruised by merit-less criticism than go do something other than participate in competitive public athletics as a coach, player or referee.
As to being anonymous. There is a long tradition of anonymously advocating ones views in this country. It goes back to complaining about the British before the revolution. Problem with divulging who you are is that it opens you up to retaliation even if your complaints have 100% merit.
The problem is that we all feel the need to challenge authority. I take the other side of it. If you as a parent does not like how the coach is handling your son then take him off the team. (Unless its something thats dangerous or unhealthy etc) Too many times parents think that they have the “right” to critique a coach or a teacher, you know what, opinions are like ***holes, everybody has one. A teacher or a coach cannot sit there and get a general opinion from parents on how to run the team or a classroom. Concerns? then wait till the season or class is over. Parents for the most part have never coached or played or taught. If they did, they would know enough to not complain
The All-Section Blogger team was announced today.
First team:
Cliff Clavin – League MVP. Does all of things you need to keep things going… Keeps stats, announces, sells tickets, organizes chuck-a-puck events. Probably grew up playing Strat-o-matic sports while living in a room under Mr Orlando’s basement steps.
Fanotgame – solid two way blogger. Knows way too much about high school hockey for a grown man. Could intelligently discuss any section in the state, as well as private schools, A, AA, AAA, Tier 1, Tier 2, Tiramisu, mid major, mid-minor major, EJHL, AHL, NHL, and ROFLMAO
Rocket Fuel – Best motor on the blog. Goes all out every shift. A classic agitator in the style of Scott Hartnell or Sean Avery (but without the hot girlfriends).
Smart Hockey – Like Rocket Fuel but still looking for that sense of humor. May have been weighed down by the giant chip on his shoulder. Possibly hurt his back trying to carry the entire Greeley fan base.
Rjmhijklmnop – Proof that you can be a giant hoser in real life, but still be a great blogger. I would love to disagree with anything he posts but have not been able to.
Slacrosse – came out of the shadow of fanotgame this season and has stepped up.
Ta-Da – Possibly the smartest person on the blog…then again, like a child with ADD, he gets distracted easily by bathroom humor. Probably watches Tosh.0 and enjoys nut-shot videos. Somehow manages to send updates from several rinks at the same time.
Zam man – Great contributions all season. The king of the BIA updates. A bit of a hiccup with the ice cut at the finals.
Second team:
Postman – quality was there…like a semi-retired Rocket Fuel….only more republican.
5 hole – quantity was there. Going a bit soft post-graduation, but still has a spark of the old pre anger-management days.
Pacfan – Stepped up big in the playoffs with his media savvy. Should be first team next season if things work out.
Chshl – I don’t know why, but I like that you post under a hundred different names about a league that is struggling, and almost nobody but Al Bundy cares about.
Al Bundy – In his golden years. Still makes the All-Section team…like back in the day when Willie Mays made the all star teams even though he was 62 years old and hitting .253. Al will prairie dog it when the subject of old school Catholic Hockey, Rockland-not-Suffern, football, or bad 80s music is brought up.
Coach of the year:
WP Coach –
Honorable mention:
@Jokehud – Strong in mid-season but faded faster than Greeley Hockey after the John Jay game.
MIke Dougherty spirit award:
NTZ hockey team – 500,000 youtube views later…they probably will look back on this season and say…yup…it was worth it.
Bigby,
Ipad / Iphone, Twitter App and a VPN to my home computer and you can update from anywhere.
Nice list and thanks for the laughs again this year.
huh
Censorship is bad. I agree. Very few comments ever get taken down, it’s a last resort. ... If you truly believe there is a pattern of wrongdoing … write down all of your complaints, e-mail the list to me. Sign your name and include your phone number. I will look into the allegations. If there is a reason to write a story I will call you and the interview will be on the record. That’s how it works.
When is all-section and all-league selected?
Hard to argue with BIgby’s picks. Somewhere I see Old School Mountie pounding the desk with frustration saying “If I never brought up those damn modified celebrations I could have been first team!”. Thanks for the laughs Ned and Old School you are the best just work harder in the off-season!
but thats part of the problem mike. if you do it on the record you suffer retaliation.
If those being complained about were open to being criticized then whoever is doing the criticizing here wouldn’t need to. They would go right to the individual.
.... and I’m not sure what you mean by wrong doing? Do you want only illegal things? There are plenty of things that can be catagorized as wrong doing that aren’t illegal. Refs that don’t call hits from behind are making bad decisions that can result in paralysis but they are doing nothing illegal.
... and btw, I see that all the time. Saw it in one of the section semi final games. Big hit directly from behind and no call. Do they have to wait for the kid to end up in a wheel chair before cracking down on that stuff?
Ned Bigby
Could be the best and funniest post of the season!!!
Yeah it is hard to establish an “identity” in the shadow of the great FOTG!!
Ned, that was a funny list. And Sweet n low… I don’t think Old School mountie is over that Modified loss to Mamaroneck yet… especially the mamk celebration…. which the suffern varsity got retribution for in the finals.
As far as Huh is concerned… did this clown actually compare complaining like a baby about his sons playing time and Rye not winning enough to complaining about the british and the revolution??? Until there is a shred of proof… I say Rye coaches do a great job. How many other teams can say that they are in the finals year in and year out almost every year… most teams can only wish for Rye’s success.
Ned, Please add an award for Most Bitter and Insane blogger…. that would surely go to HUH.
HUH which game had a hit from behind that was not called?
Great post, Pacman deserved first team
Having been on Ned’s teams in the past, it is with a heavy heart that I humbly accept my exclusion from this year’s list. My game was off a little this year and I paid the price for it. You have to be honest and objective with yourself if you ever hope to improve. I like my chances of being back on the squad next season.
Sweet n’ Low – Sunday’s OT celebration was especially nice…
@Ned Bigby. No award for me? My self esteem has been shattered. Lol
N-W
Definitely a top blogger. Sadly, since this is a lohud blog…..
You are like st. Joe’s…great team but not eligible for the post season..
You are like Fordham or Monroe-Woodbury…definitely good enough for the power rankings but….well…
And OSM…yes I agree, a talented blogger.
Definitely all league and all county…it’s a numbers thing.
N-W, Must be because your out of the coverage range of the Journal News (AKA Fordham Prep) and Ned is a stickler of the rules..
On my list you would be known as “Blogger Emeritus”
Mental Note, hit Refresh before posting
Looking forward to NW/Suff in the DI semis.
Thanks. My mom thought I deserved an award,
So now she’s happy. Emeritus sounds pretty important
@ N-W
Hey just nice to have an upstater like you on this site. Good luck to your team in the play-off.
Fotg, I won’t talk about that until Saturday night.
@slacross. Thanks
My pre-awards handshake certainly one-upped my competition. It was the difference between all section and honorable mention.
Old school Mountie gets the stepinac jv award for bringing up non varsity competition.
I do think Turning Chapanese should get a lifetime achievement award. Who else could make the word chap-smear (pap smear) entertaining and fun. Makes me jealous not to have a Gynecological exam.
As for Ned, a little light on the material this year. But what you lacked in quantity, you made up with quality.
Thanks to mike for allowing us to push the envelope at times and have fun. Especially on the live chats.
Anyone else think Ned has bromantic fantasies about the WP coach. Ned’s a sucker for a sharp dressed man.
Mamaronecks OT loss to suffern might be more heartbreaking than Sufferns last minute loss to mamk in 2008. Still hurting from Sunday.
It’ll be sad to see mamk go D2. Over the last 10 years, they’ve been the team suffern always had to watch for. Suffern made mamk a better team, and I like to think vice versa. Without mamk in d1, I don’t know of the playoffs will be as exciting.
Any chance for power leagues next year?
A whole year and that restraining order I put on 5 hole actually worked!!! My fingers haven’t been broken…. Yet.
Ned. Which coach came on the blog with the best rant?
Thanks Ned !
Seth McFarlane couldn’t have presented these awards any better..
To Old Historian
Just to refresh your memory the statement was “your son’s icetime is inversely proportionate to the amount of time your parents talk to me about hockey.”
As Archie Bunker would say “Those were the good old days.”
BTW, how hard will everyone be rooting for Nyack/TZ next year. I hear this story is still not dead. To punish them more would be absurd. IF anything the board of ed should apologize to them for their ridiculous decision. Next year…. don’t post videos until after your playoff run is over.
And yeah… even with all this crapola… was it worth it for them…. Probably. It’s doubtful that they would have went past the first round of the playoffs. Second round at best.
Since then, I’ve seen so many Harlem Shake videos…. and none of them even came close to being as funny as that one.
Where the heLL is smart hockey? I would think he’d be happy that one of the BIA teams are in the state playoffs. Outstanding accomplishment for JJ. And while I love to brag about the Big 4 (so corny, but that’s why it makes it fun), it was actually nice to see a new team win the section. It’d be cool if John Jay becomes a regular to the championship mix. After Fox Lane won it a few times… they’ve been mediocre at best.
The entire NTZ student body should do the Harlem Shake in the parking lot while the Board Of Ed meeting is going on. Full blast over and over. Lets see if they suspend over 1000 students.
I’m too lazy to look up the word inversely.
Rocket Fuel,
I got this!
Inversely = Opposite or Reverse
What would I do without Grammarati?
BTW, How the hell is Grammarati not on the all section blogger list? That’s a major oversight.
No need Rocket Fuel, Just trying to make sure our HS Bloggers score a little higher on their S.A.T. verbal scores.
Last one of the year:
Let’s eat Grandma
Let’s eat, Grandma!
(Punctuation saves lives!)
The all-league & all-section lists are officially out. You can find them here: http://www.section1hockey.com/201213Awards.html
Enjoy.
A lot of great bloggers are not on the list.
B, b, the real B, old historian, Suffern 85, ETB mom, Hockey mom, sect 1, dump and chase, the burg,
I will admit grammarati is a cool customer…i could see him in the middle of the big moment…slowing things down…taking off a glove….wiping his brow… and bringing it up strong.
Grammarati is all section!
Grammarati, you might want to teach that sentence and sentence structure to the Cannibal Cop.
Is B, b and the real B all the same person? So confusing.
BTW, Saw the all section picks etc.
Funny how Schelling is not coach of the year. He had a much tougher time with the youngsters this year, than the big time skill sets he had last year. I guess he doesn’t care anymore… how many coach of the year awards can you get before you have no space on your shelf anymore.
Winning is everything. If Mamaroneck holds on Sunday, I guarantee you Herlizt ferguson gets player of the year. But Modica came up big when it counts… and he earned it even though he’s only a junior. Congrats to him.
I’m a little disappointed to see only two defensemen on the All Section team. It’s a thankless job and it would be nice to recognize their efforts in this awards process.
shocked john jays leprine and lanza are not on all section team
ned, that imagination of grammarati seems quite vivid…
Agree with OSM. Lots of really good dmen off the list. Only room for 17, though. Everyone on the list is deserving.
Puck- those guys are good players, but Jay not getting 4 of 17 spots (nearly 25%) in a 29 team Section.
Leprine and Lanza deserve to be on that list just as much as some of the other guys.
I’m a bit biased toward d-men myself but agree with fanotgame all on list are deserving and the 2 d-men picked are excellent choices both great players. Congrats to all players selected well deserved. Now lets go Suffern boys the biggest piece of hardware is still in front of you. Good luck tomorrow!
I think the coaches have a hard time objectively assesing defensive defensemen. They tend to reward offensive defensemen moreso, it is easier to count points.
I saw Lanza only in the playoffs… you would think that the goalie who HAD to play well to win the section… and has an absurd winning % would get all section. If Lanza does not play really well in the 2nd and 3rd periods of the Pelham game… JJ does not even get to the section championship… nevermind win it.
As for Neds list… since I am a freshman… I am not too upset not to make the cut. Hopefully I can make at least honorable mention during my sophomore year.
Suffern senior Robert Clark got All League Honorable mention and I am proud of him. I think he would have gotten more than that if not for his injury. He has battled through that injury and has played hurt and is one tough kid. He is an awesome playmaker and my son owes a lot of his success to Robert’s on-ice vision. He also played an important role on last year’s state title team and will be huge as we go forward. Same goes for Suffern senior John Costa. A huge part of last year’s success and will be huge as we go forward. John also played defense when we had injuries. Not an easy thing to do and he did it well and then came back to offense when we got healthier. Great season for both and my son has been fortunate to have them as linemates.
to fan and a fan- A tough situation for the Jay coach. He had a true team effort to get the title. Lots of strong play. He knows he is not getting 4 slots. Not even Suffern got that. Took care of the senior captain (who made the cut last year) and this year’s DII player of the year. The other two juniors mentioned will be front runners for slots next season.
Can anyone tell me the name of player who totally flew by Tiger defense in Ot to set up game winner, he was awesome in that game..
That was Justin Tiso. A sophomore. Great player. Fast, skilled and tough. Plays for Hitmen U-16 team.
