I do this after the championship games are in the books each season because I feel bad that hockey doesn’t recognize an individual effort like most of the other sports do. The kids who come up big under this kind of pressure deserve a shout. And it’s no secret that I favor the normally unsung heroes, so with that in mind …
Division 1 Player of the Game
Tom Brennan, Jr. D (Suffern): Mamaroneck had a chokehold on the momentum after playing a terrific second period, but Brennan made a couple of emphatic hits to keep the Mounties on the puck and liven up the crowd in a wild third period. He also got the puck moving when Nick Jaeger knotted the score in the final minute, and sent the shot in that Mike Redgate deflected in overtime.
Division 2 Player of the Game
Lucas Prestamo, Fr. F (John Jay): Rye was looking to make something happen with the game’s first power play when Prestamo went sliding across the ice on his belly and blocked a shot with his face mask. He had the presence of mind to push the puck down the ice. Prestamo was strong on the puck the whole game, finishing with a goal and three assists.

Tom Brennan who didn’t play alot his frist two years has relly step up and he put every thing on the line can’t wait to see him again toga
Way to go Lucas, good luck the rest of the way!!!!
Mike, you mention Brennan on Jaeger’s tying goal. I’m pretty sure he had nothing to do with that play. Mamo won the face off , Clark battled, Hill picked up the puck and passed to Jaeger for the goal. In fact, msg varsity gave the assists to Hill and Clark. At the rink they gave it to Brennan for some reason but that was incorrect. Watch the play again.
this is correct for some strange reason they gave the assist to brennan when it should have been clark. the kid did play an amazing game though
Where is Grammarati when you need him? Come on Hock. put a little effort into your post. and if it were me, I might offer my prize to Modica.
Sec 1 fan – you’re correct. Definitely to Modica.
Unsung hero?… I get it, but with all due respect, Mike, I must take exception to your choice of Section One player of the game. I’m sorry, this defenseman got beat on at least 3 separate occasions causing breakaways and a 4 on 1 situation. Don’t get me wrong, he is a good little offensive player, but, hello???? He’s a blueliner! His job first and foremost is to protect his goalie at all costs. He didn’t do that. My unsung hero of the game?... Mike Redgate.
wow.
According to Ned Bigby’s Blog Survival Guide, the above post by ManicMountieFan is a train wreck!
Sounds like anything BUT a Mountie fan.
How about trying it this way:
“Congrats to the player that was chosen by Mike. I may have gone with a different player. I thought the goalie and this player or that player were also unsung and big reasons why Suffern won.”
Your post is an insult to Mike and to a high school kid!
And while we are on the subject of disrespecting Dougherty…
To come on to this blog and giggle like a schoolgirl about how good the coverage by a different media outlet was, is annoying…and then to criticize Mike for a simple mistake in the game story was a total full-on kick in the sac. (I know Ta-Da likes when I reference Mike and his sac).
Good Luck to Suffern and JJ
If Suffern can’t get it, Bigby is pulling for N-W.
OK, sorry, didn’t read that publication, Mr. Bigby. I thought this was a forum where you could speak your opinion without being bullied. Clearly I was wrong. Perhaps my post was a tad “insulting”. if so, I apologize and will recant it and post the following:
Congrats to the player that was chosen by Mike. I may have gone with a different player. I thought Mike Redgate also unsung and a big reason why Suffern won.
Now, lets all play nice.
One other note about the game, when the officiating is good you never hear a word about it, when people believe the officiating is horrible they go on and on about it. I thought the officials of both championship games did an excellent job.
Suffern did not tighten up late in the game and in OT. That was the difference in the game.
Well said BIA. Both games were done perfectly! Great job by the officials in both games
Ned, Nothing is funnier than Mike’s Sac!
Can I say that in a non “Pickle Sniffing” way?
I agree, kudos to the officiating in the Suffern- Mamaroneck game..
All of the swan dives did not obtain a power play for the swan diving team!

You missed the point about norms on the blog. We are not here to personally criticize players by name.
Remember they are just kids.
Sec 1 fan don’t relly care how it come out I konw what am saying thank u tho
@Hock, nice that you know what you’re saying. But by posting on a blog, you are asking others to read your words. You should make a little effort. Your kid gives a huge effort on the ice.
hey manic have you ever played hockey before? brennan was on the ice every power play and almost every shift let see how you would do under that presuure. by the way this kid also gets an assitst or goal in every game. i think every kid is the player on the week on this team on or off the ice so go back to video and watch it again three misteak is pretty good for a kid who is on the ice the whole game. you sound like you are a wanna be player sorry you did not get your chance… but get a life. and if you got the B#### say it to my face. suffern hockey is a botherhood everyone plays 100 % every second there on the ice.
