John Jay defeated Pelham 5-3 in a boys hockey Section 1 Division 2 semifinal playoff game at the Brewster Ice Arena Feb. 22, 2013. (Video by Frank Becerra Jr. / lohud.com)
Have to admit Mike was spot on with JJ’s upset of Pelham. Still think it was more Pelham’s slumping at the wrong time then relative overall talent. Couple this with an outstandingly Hot Lanza and all the necessary ingrediants are there for the upset.

Suffern finds the way 6-4
Rye figures out Lanza with tight checking and psyical play to overcome JJ 4-2

It just shows how difficult it is to win a championship..section or state. Pelham’s monsterous schedule looked like it would prepare them for anything that might come their way in the playoffs. It’s so difficult for this age group to be mentally sharp and focused game after game and not let something like an early deficit affect them. Pelham has to build on this and come back more determined next year. I don’t think there is any doubt that a couple of upstate heartbreaks, collapses if you will, laid the groundwork or Suffern’s state title last year. I hope the same lesson’s are learned by the Pelicans.

Suffern went through west Genny and pittsford to win the state so what collapses r u talking about??? They played top teams in the state. It wasn’t easy by any stretch

Yea…..The year b4 they played a very tough West Genny team who had a goalie thats playing top JUnior hockey. Suffern almost still tied it up. They hit the butt of the goalies stick. It was heartbreaking. It certainly wasnt collapses.
@bURNSEY
Yes I agree on Pelham. They had only three seniors, two who played a lot, and after what they lost to graduation last year was a rebuilding year even though they would never say it. I doubt they are too worked up they will be back with almost everyone next year.
