I’ve seen Jay play a few times, have been impressed but I have definitely seen Pelham play more and I think this is going to be a great game, could go either way! Lets see if Jay can dethrone Pelham, who has to have more experience coming into the game. Also people keep talking about Jay’s size, speed, and strength i feel like this should be a pretty even match up in those departments, Pelham has some great speed, size and strength as well.
Ps. Notice the difference in celebrations from Jay and Pelham, thought that was kind of funny. Can’t wait to watch some great hockey tonight!
Rye is taking the section title, not even close
All 4 teams are solid. Rye and Pel should be slight favs to advance to Sunday, but one or two BIA teams in the finals would not be a complete surprise. Tonite’s game at BIA will be a physical battle from the start. At Hommocks, Rye needs to play their physical game to keep a quick Greeley team off the puck.

Experience factor is a big one. Pelham will not be looking past anything but 7PM tonight. Actually, all players and coaches of all varsity teams only live for the FOTG power ratings. Cardigan man will not see Utica.

Jay also comes in with a chip on their shoulder. The seniors and juniors now have experienced an end to their season two years running from Pelham in the semi-finals. They’re going to play with heart tonight and know that an exit from the playoffs three years in a row from the same team, no matter who that team may be, is very upsetting. Good game, hard to call seeing as Pelham is very good and know what it’s like to win in these moments. Jay comes out on top though 4-2.

It’s the “BIG FOUR” again this year or at least 3 oF the big four. I say it’s Rye and Pelham though! teams are improving around here and will catch-up sooner or later, if they have the will to do it.
2 things that are remarkable: Pelham is by far the smallest School followed by Rye who’s a little bit bigger…Mam’k and Suffern, JJ Scarsdale and HG are huge in comparison!
Pelham does not really have their own town rink, unless you count that Dump “the Hutch, which is really in Mt. Vernon. Rye lost it’s home ice this season and had to scramble all over the place for Ice…amazing for both programs

Even if Benincasa does come back( which I believe is highly unlikely) he would not be the play maker he was before the injury. Hockey takes conditioning and he hasn’t had time for that.

Although I agree with most of your comment, the Ice Hutch is most definitely Pelham’s home ice. It is less than 5 minutes from the high school, 2 minutes from the football field, has a locker-room dedicated to their varsity team, their coach, ed witz owns the rink, and Pelham gear is shown throughout the bubble including emblems on the ice and banners for their section titles. They did all this and they are not even the only varsity team that plays out of the ice hutch

@Obsessive regarding the Hutch” as Pelham’s home rink. You’re right on that account, but it’s still quite a dump. So bad it’s good in a way LOL!
What I’m refering to is this though. It’s feeder programs that get a hockey town going and with Rye it’s playland, Mam’k it Hammocks They are in the town and the kids from that town go there learn to skate and play hockey as youths with their friends. I don’t see that with Pelham and the Hutch. Many Pelham kids (and their parents) don’t want to go to Mt. Vernon and the hutch, I imagine. This is what makes it tougher and so remarkable!
Obsessive. YOu are so wrong on so many levels. Keep trying to make Pelham look like they are the little engine that could. I don’t have the energy to get involved in this today. I am hoping they win. But to make it like they are accomplishing so much with so little is really insane. Every team wishes they had the pelham ice times and that their head coach ran the rink.
BTW, Mamaroneck is bigger than Pelham… but they are a D2 sized school, whether you like that or not. Pelham and Rye both have a big $$$$, this and a rink and a youth program goes a lonnnnnng way.

i just hoping for two good games tonight. last night was a joke with one team with 10 skaters getting worn down, and one team with rec league stats getting the #@$# kicked out of them. i hope when it comes time to announce all section they look at what kind of schedule some teams play and if their coach lets them run up the score. 25 pts on suffern or pelham or mhs means alot more than 60 pts on others.

Rye came out hitting hard in the 2nd and seemed to take the play away from HG. almost all HG sog in 2nd period came on PP and they were not close in quality chances.

@whomp. Yes, when Pelham came to buffalo. Niagara Wheatfield out scored them 4-1 in the second period and 6-2 for the game. They were not giving the puck away like Halloween candy then though.

I google search every section in the state. This blog comes up high on the section one search. Great blog. We are concerned about Clarence, that’s who we play in the final. I follow every good team though. Suffern hockey follows us on twitter, maybe they are concerned about Niagara Wheatfield.
I was at the game tonight. Greeley came out flying. They had many many scoring chances in the first period but just couldn’t put the puck in the back of the net. Shots were 13-3. Then starting in the second period the play kind of went back and forth with Rye just putting the puck in the back of the net one more time than Greeley. Score was 2-1 Rye and shots 7-6 Rye. In the third period there was a lot of great intensity. Rye had great pressure in the first 5 minutes and scored one more goal. Rye and the Goalie withstood a lot of pressure from Greeley in the last 5 minutes and scored on an empty neter to seal the deal. Also a side note of the game is that after #5 on Greeley hit Bennicasa, Bennicasa didn’t come back. Does anybody know what happened to him? Btw I want it from a real source and not obsessive’s friend who texted him just plain wrong facts during the game

Suffern knows they will be tested against Mamorneck come Sunday when they play for the Section 1 final. If they win that game they have to play Saratoga. Suffern beat Toga 3-1 earlier in the year. I saw Toga play Shen last night online and Toga looked very good.

I know toga outshot Suffern 32-13 last game too. You can steal a game or two if that happens, but if togas snipers are hot or suff goalie has less than stellar game it’s over. I love playoff hockey

They outshot Suffern on an olympic sized rink up in Toga. When Toga has to come down here they are gonna play on a smaller rink and on a rink that Suffern doesnt lose.
Congrats to Rye with some great play from Hynson and Talgo in goal. Greeley played Rye very tough for sure, has some real good skaters and will be a force next season.

N-W and hockeyfan, I was at the Suffern/Saratoga game and Saratoga took a lot of long range shots that were easy for our talented goalie to handle. so the shots were not really as lopsided as reported. Quality shots are what counts. No doubt that Toga is very good though. but as hockeyfan reported, it will be a big change to play Suffern at home on a regular sized rink. just like it was a big adjustment for Suffern to play Saratoga on a big sheet. we were also missing some players in that game that we now have back.

Pelham all year was up and down. Turnovers hurt them all year. They ran into a good team in JJCR but Pelham has played a lot better. The win against #1 RFA proves that.

Anyone remember the shots on goal total 33 years ago today in Lake Placid? It was something like 37-15…for the LOSERS. The totals mean nothing.
hs HKY I got texted that many of Greeley’s shots were not quality ones so SOG can be decieving. Rye Greeley says that’s not so..so who knows! Quality always beats quantity when good goaltending is involved

Well thats good I hope Mamk is confident. That makes the game even better. I saw both games. If Mamk plays the way they did in game 1 Mamk could win. If they play like they did at SOR suffern wins. Suffern has only lost 3 games. Mamk has lost 7 including a 6-0 lose to Toga which Suffern beat. Suffern losses this year Mamk WP and DBP. Not too shabby. Mamk is 10th in NYS. DBP is #2 in NJ. Suffern defensively is top notch. Has only given up 26 goals on the year. Including playing West Genny Massena Ithaca DBP Toga etc. 26 goals over a 20 game span. Modica save percentage is 93 percent.

And I did just hear Suffern might be without 3 best players come Sunday. If that is true I wont even bother going. Mamk will win the section and go on to play Toga again this year
I thought this summer that Greeley would be good, but probably a year away from competing for the Section title. Tonite they skated around Rye in the first period before the older, bigger, stronger Garnets started to play the body. Next year, that deep Quaker team will be a year older and tougher.
Pelham came back several times from similar deficits to the one tonite. They may have just run out of time. The young Pelicans will learn from this and play a little tighter next season.
Both finals should be very good. Maybe an OT or two. Could we have a shoot out (and the attendant co Section Champ designation)?

I say Suffern defeats Mamaroneck easy and John Jay defeats Rye in a close game.
I am good family friends with a player on mamks team. As i was reading through the blog I saw that people are saying sufferns three best players may be out. Seems like mamk will be very limited on d as well. Schiff is still banged up and will most likely only be playing power play. Kriss got hurt today in a soccer game and will not be playing Sunday. Going to be an interesting game.
I herd Suffern has 3 players… Modica, Hill and Tiso playing For the Jerzy Hitmen play-offs up in New Hempshire, and a snow storm is coming Saturday into Sunday….....Yikes!!
I smell something fishy about that… Suffern can talk all they want but come sunday theyll lose with a full squad.
Wether Suffern’s top players are there or not, Mamaroneck is the favorite, Suffern is the younger team, with that said without those players Suffern has no chance, Either way it will be a close one.

If tiso Modica and hill don’t play that will def hurt suffern. Mamo without Kreiss and Schiff will hurt them. With the injuries Nd playoffs for the hitmen this is gonna be a watered down section final game. I will be going but have a feeling the game won’t be as good as it should be btw both teams 5 of the top talented players won’t be there. I think the suffern players will be making a tough decisions to weather they play for suffern tomorrow afternoon. If suffern players come suffern win 5-2

I spoke with a suffern player last night. He hasn’t decided what he’s doing yet. Unless u have updated information
2 great games yesterday, I really thought Pelham would win but Jay maybe a little bit better then I thought. Playoffs comes down to goaltending and how you play in your zone. Jay has an outstanding goalie in Lanza, controls rebounds well and has great communication skills with his D. Rye must have a deep forecheck apply pressure on Jay’s defense and cause turnovers. On the flip side Talgo has been Rye’s best player over the last 4 games (no slight to Hinson). Save pct. north of 92% I am guessing. Rye needs to get the puck out of their zone quicker take a little heat off Talgo maybe the forwards come down below hash marks and break out from there. Early start not sure who it favors I know Rye takes a bus and Jay arrives on their own (?). If Rye can hold off an early flurry from Jay they stand a good chance of winning but if Jay scores a couple early it may be curtains for Rye. Time will tell should be a great doubleheader staying for 2.

Modica is home already. Tiso and Hill coming home late tonight or tomorrow depending on weather. They WON’T miss this game for anything. Fresh legs is another story with the total amount of hs and hitmen games they have played in the last 2 weeks. Suffern coach better play that 3rd line.
Very good to hear that about Modica. Ill take a tired Tiso and Hill over not having them at all. Mamk is missing 1 of there best players and the other will be limited due to injury
