You’re going to see the following story in tomorrow’s paper, and there’s a lesson here …
The hockey season came to an ubrupt end for Nyack/Tappan Zee on Friday when the Ice Hawks forfeited their upcoming Section 1 playoff game to Lakeland/Panas. No official reason was given, but several team members were part of a racy video that appeared on YouTube late Thursday.
Head coach Nick DeSantis would not comment and referred all questions to school administrators. Tappan Zee athletic director Liam Frawley did not return a message left for him at the school where he was supervising a basketball game.
“We were forfeited from playoffs for a borderline inappropriate video in the locker room of Harlem shake,” Ice Hawks senior forward Corey Aronson tweeted on Friday to a friend.
A link to the video began making the rounds late Thursday, and the short clip becomes objectionable halfway through. Several team members are doing the Harlem Shake, an uptempo dance re-popularized by a recent song of the same name, and they are wearing very little clothing. Most are in their underwear or compression shorts. All of the Ice Hawks in the video masked their faces. One student athlete danced on a bench wearing only a strategically-placed sock.
The video has been taken off line.
Nyack Tappan Zee had an 11-7-1 record and went into the sectional tournament as the No. 10 seed. Lakeland/Panas will now meet Somers/North Salem in a Division 1 quarterfinal on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. at Brewster Ice Arena.
Here’s the lesson … kids need to be reminded every so often what that omnipresent www stands for. They have to realize these hormonal snippets they keep posting on the World Wide Web are out in the open where friends and neighbors, parents and teachers, bloggers and journalists can see them.
A forfeit in this case seems a little harsh, they weren’t being destructive, but they weren’t exactly representing those uniforms that were discarded before somebody turned up the music and screamed, ‘Action!’

That’s terrible
OK, here are my two cents. It is unreal what the WWW subjects kids to. So these kids, I repeat kids do something stupid. Act silly. The only crime here it seems (although I did not see the video) is that they were ignorant enough to tape it and put in on youtube. From the description, it seems incredibly dumb to post this on the internet.
Now lets look at the Super Bowl halftimes. YOu got Beyonce basically in something from victoria secrets gyrating like she’s having a seizure on national tv. A few years back Janet Jackson exposes her breast on national tv. I’m telling you, kids today do not know where the line is. Or they are fuzzy on where the line is. They think it is cool to tape someone punching someone in the face, starting a fight, or….. flipping off their coach after putting the puck in his own net. Put that stuff on the internet and these dopey teens think they are a star like John Franco.
They think nothing of posting pics of themselves at parties holding beers when they are only 16…. a good 5 years away from being legal. In alot of ways it is an Orwellian society where big brother is watching you 24 hrs. a day. I sort of feel bad for them.
I really don’t know what the proper punishment is for this team. But I really feel bad for the players who had nothing to do with it. I also feel bad for the kids who made the mistake of taping themselves doing this….and the ridiculous decision to put it on youtube.
In my world, give these kids (who were in the video)60 hours of community service. But to take away ALL the kids season… to me…. is unfair. The kids in the video deserve some discipline… it has to kill them that they also ruined the whole teams chance in teh playoffs and also tarnished the program. Rough lesson.
wow that is a bold move by one that needed to be made. It would have been a good game too.
Lp would have won anyhow.
Although the video may be inappropriate during some parts, the punishment given, in my opinion, doesn’t fit the “crime”. They weren’t doing anything dangerous and it is unfair to terminate a team’s season for this, especially for the players who weren’t involved.
Is their a gag order on Scarsdale hockey? They have played 3 games? this week, Stepinac, West Haven, and Fordham? nothing in the paper, no statistics on the section site? No Scarsdale bloggers?
May have prevented it?
LP would have absolutey demolished these immature scrubs anyway
Scarsdale Gag
No intent here. If nobody sends game details into the paper, nobody reads about it the next day (or the day after if the game is late).
sorry, wasnt suggesting the Lohud group i at fault, I am aware that the games are reported to Lohud nd the stats are reported to the fellas at the section 1 site. I just have not seen anything on the last three games on the schedule and wondered why. hy wuld tey not be reported?
So since the tournament has not started why wasnt the NTZ team taken out of the seedings, and new seeds drawn up? and create a bye for a legitmate higher seed instead of gifting it to a ower seed? Is that fair?
Mamaroneck is the third seed. Suffern is 1 SNS is 2. They both have byes. NTZ should be removed, and everyone below them moves up. That would give Mamaroneck a bye. They have two days to change it.
ntz
I’m going to guess that would’ve been a major headache after rink, officials and transportation were already in place.
it would be then. Suffern, Sns, Mamaroneck a bye
White Plains vs North Rockland
New Rochelle vs Etb
Rye Tow vs Carmel
LP vs. Mahopac
Clarkstown vs. Kennedy
@2 cents The punishment that these kids received is ridiculous, you have to wake up and smell the roses.. It is highschool hockey kids play it to have fun and yes these kids are just having fun, there are thousands of these videos online of not just hockey teams but schools and orginizatons all over the nation and even the ASPCA had a video like this, it is foolish that they had even got punished for this, I really don’t see a need for community service either, it’s all in good fun and if you are offended by a video like this than there I don’t know what to tell you it’s all in good humor.
If I’m mamaroneck. I’m happy to play north rockland. The game won’t be a problem. And they get to heat up for more important games in the next rounds. The teams with a buy just scrimmage themselves and come into the second round cold. North rockland will be a good tune up game. And if mamk should lose…. They wouldn’t have won the section anyway.
Section1 fan. How can u make a sure statement that it was all in fun if u never saw the video. It does deserve some discipline. But ending the season seems harsh unless the video is worse than what is described.
They make a dance video in their underwear? What if they wore swimsuits? Big effing deal.
The video is still out there if you google “NTZ Harlem Shake” it will show up. I understand that disciplinary action needed to take place but really a shame to see this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WHxv6rzsoY – I think its a little over the top making these kids have to forfiet there play off game, the world wouldn’t have known it was NTZ until now, as the school just made such a big deal out of this and now everyone will known, I think there are worse things these kids could have done to warrant a punishment, some may think its funny, some may not, but it looks like it was done in fun, let they play the game and move on!!
BY the way its a 30 second video…..are you kidding me!!
The kid had zero clothes on besides a sock covering his meat stick and jangalangs
It would be nice to see the entire high school hockey community come together, including athletic directors, coaches, and players to support this forfeiture by the NTZ superintendents. LP should demand the right to play this game. It is unfair to the entire section.
Does anyone know the legality regarding this decision? It seems that the minimal time spent coming to such a conclusion seems unfair for the organization. Both personally and constitutionally. Freedom of expression should be a protected right so long as noone is harmed.
Who says players from merged teams don’t get along well?
ONLY mistake they made was using the letters “NTZ” in the title…(and they should have waited until after the playoffs to post it on youtube)
Harsh punishment.
by the way…if school and section officials decided to read individual player’s Twitter pages, the entire playoff would be canceled.
Any truth to the rumor that @jokehudhockey is actually sock-boy?
I think the high school community should support the kids. They should protest the forfeit and demand that these kids be allowed to play. No laws were broken and this trend is being promoted as good fun.
You can go on any highschool hockey player’s facebook and find something that is way more offensive(and illegal) than that video. The sock kid is the only part of the whole thing that should require punishment, and in that case punish him, not the entire team that has earned their playoff game
Disclaimer I did not see the video nor do I wish to. It seems to me that there’s got to be more to this story (disciplinary history?) than just what we see on the surface to warrant this level of punishment. I’m sure the school AD used the ” conduct unbecoming” clause of the players contract/agreement to institute the action. The ones I feel bad for are the NTZ players who were not involved in the video and are punished due to the actions of their teammates.
Lesson learned for all future players section-wide. When someone in your locker room says, “Hey wouldn’t it be funny if…” The first thing that should come to mind is REMEMBER NTZ.
I applaud NY/TZ for suspending their players. In today’s society there is way too much excuse making and not enough owning up for actions. HS players need to remember or figure out what it means to be an athlete and to remember that the world does not revolve around them. Their parents are mostly to blame and this is demonstrated not just in athletics but in academics as well. Let this serve as a lesson.
And better yet, where was the coach when all of this was going down? He should be fired.
Lp should play team below nyack. A game should be played how hard is it to keep same time and location just supplement team.
LET THEM PLAY!
After seeing the video…. the dumbest thing about it is putting NTZ in the title and the dumbest part being that they put it on youtube. BUT WHY DID THEY PUT IT ON YOUTUBE?
Putting it on youtube is not a spontaneous act. They had time to think about it. So why did they do it? They did it because what they see on regular television, super bowl halftime shows, music videos, commercials for vaigra/underwear/bra’s. Shows about teen moms, reality shows with people naked blurred out having sex. All this stuff has become normalized to todays kid. MURDER, SEX AND VIOLENCE – WE ARE WHAT WE SEE!!!!!
NTZ parents should go straight to NTZ administrators and threaten lawsuits if they are not allowed to play. They are also under intense scrutiny due to this decision. Ned makes good points… are we now going to check twitter and facebook pages and see who has drunk a beer? smoked? and punish them too? There are other punishments besides taking away games and punishing the whole program.
@ OLD SCHOOL MOUNTIE, if you don’t watch the video… keep your uninformed opinion to yourself. You would make a great juror. “your honor, I don’t want to watch that video account of that murder… I’d rather just make an uninformed decision as to this mans guilt”.
NTZ parents need to threaten the administration with lawsuits and lawyers and make a BIG DEAL out of this. The punishment does not fit the crime. Although I do think it was incredibly ignorant to make this video and post it. Not to mention embarrassing to the program and kids, the school and the parents.
@ zero tolerance. Having a coach inside the locker room 24/7 is just creepy. Your statement is ignorant. It is normal for kids to have time in the locker room without an adult hanging around. This is a VARSITY TEAM you shmuck. I guarantee you, that EVERY varsity coach would say that it is normal to be outside the locker room while the kids get dressed for some stretches of time. Whether it is 2 minutes, 5 minutes and most likely longer. It is also normal for kids to be blasting music in the locker room.
“THEIR PARENTS ARE MOST LIKELY TO BLAME” – Zero tolerance. Are you friggin insane? Did their parents teach them that dance? Do their parents dance around the house like that. It’s called FREE WILL, we all have it in this country. You can not control every move kids make. And the move they made, while not intelligent… is certainly not a crime. I’m sure these are mostly if not all real good kids goofing around and the joke went overboard. Zero tolerance, you have zero IQ.
If you fire this coach… you need to fire every coach who is not hovering over kids who get dressed in the locker room from the second the first kid walks in to a locker room, to the last kid walking out. This could happen to any program.
This is hardly the coaches fault.
Don’t forget mamaroneck not too long ago did break laws shoplifting and disabling fire alarms in a hotel. Those kids all played in playoffs. And that was a literal crime. This video at worst is marginally inappropriate. Not a crime.
easy Rocket…too early for the 5 hour energy drink
...This is EXACTLY the place for people like OSM to express an uninformed opinion…he actually threw in a bold face disclaimer warning us.
Free will? Are you serious? It’s called being taught morals and when they are all sitting around getting reasy to shoot that video, someone has half a brain cell to either walk out or be the voice of reason. Rocket fuel You exemplify exactly what is wrong here and that is not taking responsibility for the actions you CHOOSE to make. At least, those players in the video should be suspended and then if they have enough players let them play.
Coaches still need to be aware of what is going on in the locker room and I’m not talking about hovering around players as they get dressed.
@RF @Ned
Agree with your cmments…just saw video
Suspend sock boy for sure but forfeit is over the top
IMO need to teach “boundaries” to teens…sock boy did exceed a legit boundary
GREAT POINT by Ned: much worse on Facebook & Twitter
Zero tolerance, then we must also police every single facebook post, twitter post, and youtube video every single section one athlete does. Yes, it is free will. I doubt you have kids mr zero tolerance… but you can not control every move your kid makes… and making mistakes is all about growing up. It is up to the adults to discipline according to the action (I won’t say crime, because no crime was committed). From a legal standpoint, I can’t see how anyone can summize that the video is at all criminal… including sock guy.
MORALS? What moral are you teaching these kids? That it’s ok to show your boob on national tv without punishment… but make a stupid video with your buddies and you are thrown out of the section one tournament?
Hey how about this, have the schools hire enough coaches to police the kids. Most teams have 1 paid coach and if they are lucky enough they have a couple volunteers. So it is impossible to police all the kids all the time.
Bottom line, should there be discipline? Yes.
Should the entire team forfeit their season? Nope.
Lawsuit city…not sure why sock boy is being singled out. The only thing i see as borderline offensive is the simulated fornication right up front. Ending their season for this video is beyond ludicrous.
Rocket Fuel February 16th, 2013 at 9:32 am
Bottom line, should there be discipline? Yes.
Should the entire team forfeit their season? Nope
This! Sums it up perfectly.
The bottom line is…...these are good kids who DID NOT commit any crime or do any harm to themselves or anyone else. NO HARM. NO FOUL. The administrators should be ashamed of themselves for making such a radical decision without getting all the facts and researching what our culture is preaching. Part of life is making mistakes. FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION ARE PART OF NORMAL GROWTH AND A HUMAN RIGHT Lesson now learned by the players and students. But again. NO HARM. NO FOUL. Let them play!!
@Old School Mountie
Lesson learned when a player says wouldn’t it be fun if we go out drinking or if we go to a party where there may be drug or…..... The players should remember NTZ and say NO. LETS STAY TOGETHER AND DO SOMETHING FUN AND HARMLESS! A little more discretion should be the only lesson learned
Hockey mom, and suffern 85’ right on!!!! Let them play. There’s different ways to discipline kids who’s only mistake was taking their sill harmless shenanigans and posting it on YouTube.
They can be disciplined with community service. Or having them sit a period each. I don’t think ending a whole teams season based on a dopey video is warranted. I do hope that at least one of these kids parents are lawyers and go after the administration big time.
BTW. I heard the guy in the sock is Ned Bigby. He really shouldn’t have been there. C’mon Ned, grow up. :/
Just one quick note…The video was posted saying ”(hockey edition)”. NTZ was not originally in the title. The video was demanded to be taken down by school authority early yesterday morning. The video which now includes NTZ in the title was re-posted late last night. The kids dont deserve such a rash punishment for following the latest fad. The kids were smart enough when first making the video to not include names or their team name anywhere in the video. I don’t see the reasoning behind the decision to forfeit based on a minor action that wasn’t even a crime or doing any harm to anyone.
What if this video had been shot in a player’s basement and not a locker room? Would you still suspend the WHOLE team?
Punishment does not fit the “crime” here. The NTZ players have embarrassed themselves, their parents, coaches and team but did not commit a “crime.” Most of them were smart enough to wear a mask, including sock boy.The two kids “humping” each other will have that video attached to all college recruiters. That is punishment enough.
What did I do wrong?
Never seen a sock before?
FREE SOCK PUPPET TO PLAY!!!!
“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”
Ugh.. I feeel bad for the kids, and it might have been an over-reaction by admin, but this action was probably appropriate.
Sports offers life lessons, and this is definitely a life lesson on discretion and keeping it private.
Just saw the video..My first reaction was LOL hahaha and this caused a forfeiture?, very borderline..
I don’t think it is fair to single out one player
And even though I made it up, I feel bad for coining the name “Sock-Boy”
I probably should have gone with something else…
– Socket Fuel – Jeremy Sockey – Johann Sebastian Sock – Sock Cousteau – Lord Sockleton – Justin Timbersock – Socky Balboa
maybe a good poll question for the blog?
Socket Fuel? LMAO
I think their band is called
New Kids on the Sock.
So that is where my missing sock ended up? You can keep it kid.
In solidarity with nyack/tz I’ve changed the title of our song.
It’s now
I Wanna Sock -twisted sister
Sock You Like a Hurricane
It is official NTZ has finally figured out how to get more Blog traffic than Suffern. They may have created the model for all other teams that complain about lack of coverage to follow. Just put a sock on it.
Is that Anthony Keidis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
That would be Flea
(former Larchmont resident)
I repeat next seed below step up play LP. Lp plays all season to make playoffs now no one to play? Cmon this bites
I just watched the video. I thought it was hillarious and good fun. People need to lighten up and chill out. I can think of a lot worse things these kids could have done.
Are you serious 5 hole? The team got suspended…. and you are worried about a mediocre LP team? They’re going nowhere. LP should be happy with the forfeit NTZ would have beat them anyway.
Rocket Fuel, you said alot and your right on about every thing you said, no need to repeat it all, good Blog!!
That video is harmless, the real problem is how kids write on twitter by taking shortcuts with words. “U hear me?”
http://pinmobo.com/4229,grammar-matters
Why is the school system censoring their creativity? No doubt that this dance video is better choreographed than any crud that the TZ dance/acting/play dept has put out in years. I say give the creative genius a job.
Great video. Had a great storyline. Goalie mask guy in the beginning had some killer moves, really draws the viewer in. Then whammo!!!! They hit you with a middle part that blows your mind, and then a soprano like ending!!!! Masterpiece!!!!! Certainly makes you wanting more.
The kids should not sweat this. It’s uptight administrators trying to do something to justify their 200k+ jobs. Meanwhile they should just sit behind the desk. The only reason they leave teaching and go to administration is because they’re sick of dealing with kids on a daily basis.
I just watched the video and the punishment is extemely harsh – this is terrible to punish the whole team for this. People may not be aware, but kids across the country are doing numerous video’s to this song, this is a trend across America. The kids may have gone overboard a little, but no way in hell should they be banned from the playoffs. Shame on the organization or person who made this poor decision.
Only one or two kids faces were actually showing when they were doing the dance so how could they prove this was even NTZ? No mention of the team in the title, could have been a house league team for all we know. definitely wayyy overboard to ruin a teams whole season for something your allowed to do.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=gfoBCshFs6s
OMG this is horrible, these people should all be fired. I can’t believe grown ups did this. I mean its one thing when teens do it. Anyone doing the Harlem shake should be thrown in jail. This is worse than a zombie plague.
I want to get together with postman, Old school mountie, Ned Bigby, rjklmn?, fanotgame, John Orlando, Mike Chaiparelli, Howie Rubenstein, Rob Schelling, Mike Dougherty, Ed Witz,, Jeff Freisen, Cliff Clavin and do our own version of the Harlem Shake.
Maybe administration should have learned that this is a dumb internet phase, and the kids were just being kids. It’s not too late to reverse this stupid decision… but of course the adults in this case will feel like they look stupid if they reverse it. But guess what? the administrators already look stupid. So you may as well do the right thing. LET THE KIDS PLAY.
many times there is pressure put on school administrators to take disciplinary actions such as this.
do we know if any parents are responsible for this action?
did a particular school administrator make the decision on his or her own?
A meteor hit Russia and injured 1000 people.
another 1 flew across San Francisco.
that Blade Runner guy murdered his unbelievably hot model girlfriend.
the Pope just quit.
big deal, some kids made a video…it is hilarious and nothing to get upset about
let the kids play!
Well I doubt the parents of the players had anything to do with the suspension.
Ned’s point is intelligent (yes I used intelligent and Ned in the same sentence). With all the cr0p going on in the world… is it really necessary to take away the kids final game or games? What is the lesson being taught here?
“You kids followed suit in making an internet video, that half the country is doing. You were ignorant enough to post it on youtube for old farts to see who don’t understand the video… you danced in your underwear and in a sock-jock. You did nothing illegal. However, you ARE guilty of being typical teens… so hand in your uniforms… your season is OVER!!!!!!”
School ended Friday and the administrators obviously didn’t want to spend any time beyond their normal 8-3 day to further investigate the entire situation. A decision was made without gathering all the facts. The kids used poor judgement posting this video. The administrators used poor judgement making such a decision just to get it posted before the end of their school day. LET THE KIDS PLAY. Have another conference call among yourselves this evening and re-address your decision. We pay your salary with our very hard earned dollars. SHOW THE KIDS AND PARENTS SOME RESPECT.
Rocket Fuel Great post, Lets just let the kids play, I think its funny and was done in good fun, also they never used there school name in the video, just let them play and please move on!! These section one play-offs are going to be great and right now this has consumed the blog!!
Well the video is in no way the “call me maybe” stuff teams were doing … That said the school district can decide how they want the district and tax payer dollars represented … And also how do we help these kids grow up? Say this is funny and ok or say you are in high school have fun? In this new world it isn’t really fun or funny and other kids are doing other things not embarrassing their family team friends .. On something that should have stayed in the locker room. That is why it is a locker room.
Rewind.
Please specifically tell us what in that video is so horrible that the season needs to be ended for the whole team. Most of the kids were just dancing around. I could only see 3 of them making what can to some be seen as obscene gestures.
So, would you at least say that AT MOST, 3 players sit out a game? And don’t you think it would have saved a lot of people embarrassment, including the schools, if they quietly benched those 3 kids?
Personally, I don’t think anyone should be benched. But if you want to be a tight_ _ _ , make an example of the 3, let the team play. Save your district public humiliation.
Who leaked this to Mike and the Journal News anyway? Shouldn’t this have been taken care of on the down low? If they did not make the punishment so severe, only the locals would have known what happened.
A discussion with the students and their parents, a day or two of thought, may have put a different perspective on the actions taken by the students and the reaction by the school districts. This certainly could have been handled in a more professional manner by the educators. The student players will learn from this but they have time to grow and mature. They did not commit a crime. They committed an error in judgement. The districts committed a greater error by not evaluating the facts before making such a radical and rapid decision.
Hockey mom is 100 % correct it was a rush to judgement.
Last potential game for seniors . Lp suffers too this would have been a good match. Lp should be entitled to play a 1st round game versus next seed.
This ruling hurts everyone.
You’re all stupid.. they’re kids.
Not allowing these kids to play is travesty of ridiculous proportions. Between this and the Fayettville-Manlius screw up, it is apparent that school administrators are without a clue….
5 hole, Teams work all year to get a top seed and a BYE in the first round, L/P has an extra couple days now to prepare for their next opponent and get a good long rest, it’s manna from heaven..
The video is hilarious and done in good fun, if that was in Mamaroneck that would be aired on “MHS Info” first thing Monday morning (Do they still have MHS Info? or am I dating myself)
I think if there was a reversal from the admins at the schools, we would of heard about it by now.
Ta da the boys wanna play hockey this game should be played
How bout this suspend the one who posted on u tube.
One person posted it otherwise this would have been locker room bull sh$t do not penalize 2 teams with this
Congrats to NTZ administrators!! If their goal was to attract as much attention to themselves as possiblle they have succeeded!!!
This helps LP in more ways then you could ever imagine, LP is currently without a goalie, but may have one back for their 2nd game (may?).
that ws the dumbest thing I ever saw. But kids today are never responsible for their actions. looks like they will pay for being foolish.
Mamo will lose!
Bia what?
So now deadspin.com has the story on its nationally viewed if not world viewed website. As the administrators who wielded their “power” sleep snugly in their beds, the NTZ players probably stared at the ceiling trying to figure out if they really did anything wrong. I swear as corny as it may sound, is’nt this the theme to the movie Footloose? Where you are punished for dancing in some backwards thinking town? I used to think it was such a stupid premise to a movie. How the hell can you be punished for dancing? Well, the truth is stranger than fiction. Nyack and TZ and NO DANCE ZONES.
I guess we should all thank these administrators for this. Now our kids all realize that life is certainly very unfair, and the people in ANY area of power, truly don’t care about you (with the exception of a very few). They felt that they were somehow protecting something by basically stating “this offends a minority of people to a small degree… thus, without looking any further in to it, I will throw out a punishment quickly, and ignorantly”.
Can we have the names of the administrators who made this decision?
Just playing devil’s advocate here…
If this were to have happened in an un-attended classroom at Nyack high-school with non-athletes, then put on youtube, the administration certainly would have taken some action. It was, afterall, half-naked (and in the case of one kid, 99% naked) kids dancing around on school grounds then showing it to the world. So let’s say in this scenario, the principal gives a 2-day suspension to all involved. While you may not agree with it, you wouldn’t be surprised by it.
Now, during a hockey game/practice, the rink is actually considered to be school grounds. That is why the school is required to provide security at the games and can dictate and supercede the rink’s rules as to who can/can’t attend (i.e. if say a kid plays for PR and used to play for the saints, but got banned from SOR because he got in a fight in the lobby and punched out an employee. SOR can’t stop him from playing his PR home games at SOR). So, the fact that this happened in the locker room at the mall says that it happened after/before a game or practice and in the eyes of the school…on school grounds.
Now, back to the first scenario where we weren’t overly shocked by the 2-day suspension from school. What if that is all the kids here got? A 2-day suspension from school? Again, wouldn’t be shocked. But here’s the problem. If day 1 was Friday and day 2 is the first day back from break, since you can’t play in extra-curriculars during a suspension, they wouldn’t be able to play this weekend. Since most of the team was in the video, there wouldn’t be enough to field a team on Sunday and since they can’t reschedule a playoff game, they must forfiet.
Again, I am just playing devil’s advocate. I have no insight into the schools’ thinking (keep in mind, this had to be a collaborative effort across two school districts). Just trying to figure out if there is a plausible justification.
Suspend the player who actually posted it .
This would not have become visually seen if it it were not posted on u tube end of story, Who posted it you my friend ruined a hockey season, and seniors high school hockey is done…
How can it be that the head of Section 1 Athletics, decides to go on vacation this week, even though this week was the seeding meeting for Ice Hockey and all otehr winter sports as well as the start of the winter sports seasons playoffs
It truly shows this individual does care about high school athletics as there are 6 weeks of high school play-offs (excluding football) in the year, that she feels compelled to take vacation one of these weeks.
That is unbelievable to me
Hey cliff. It was a locker room. Your supposed to be half naked. And guess what? When you go to the pool or beach….. everyone is 85% naked!!!! Your worst post ever cliff. Even if you say you r playing devils advocate.
Your analogy is severely flawed. Like someone said, maybe 3 kids were being obscene, if you’re prudish, suspend the 3. Not the whole team. But that might require going past 3 o’clock dismissal for our administrators. They gotta get this inconvenience out of the way.
Its still a high school event. Kids need to learn not to cross the line. I think the fact they made it is one thing, and if I were in charge I would take some action, but not forfeit the game. Once they put it on youtube for all to see that crosses the line, and shows the intent
Ill be representing that sock in court. We are suing nyack schools for emotional damage to mr sock. Mr sock will not even go on anyone’s foot anymore. He just wants to keep washing himself in the washing machine. Bleaching himself over and over saying “go to a happy place, go to a happy place”.
My point being that even if you wanted to appeal and go to the BOCES office there was NO ONE there in authority to make a decision, as the 2nd in command left on Thrusday after lunch for his vacation.
There was no authoratative figure available a BOCES to even approach
The individual school polices itself, each BOE does their own thing. BOCES could not over rule it – school districts call
its also too late now. Its over, games being played today
At Prudish?
OK, so tell us, did they ALL cross the line.? Pick out which players crossed that invisible line you have created. My point being, MOST of the players did not do anything but dance around in their shorts. Most of them have more clothes on than people at the beach.
Why don’t we make the Tappan Zee swim team forfeit their wins, I heard they wear a little speedo, exposing over 95% of their bodies.
Let’s suspend the wrestling team for wearing skin tight singlets. I hear that they even wrestle each other with their bodies rubbing up against one another.
How about suspending all volleyball teams for wearing spandex shorts that are tight.
Seems that only 2 or 3 players were doing anything that can be construed as obscene. At most, those players could have been suspended, not an entire team.
Those in charge have turned their ridiculous decision in to a national farce. Exposing themselves as frauds with bad judgement.
Anytime a Team is required to forfeit you have the right to appeal to the Board Of Ed department of Athletics, and if you are not happy with your sections findings you can go to above them Albany
Here is the “spin” from Dead Spin: “Here’s the lesson: You can’t have any fun when some people are in charge because they want to teach you about the real world, in which you can’t have any fun because there are people in charge who won’t let you. They think of themselves as grown-ups. They’re wrong about that, too.”

I’m still shaking my head over this one. High school kids and drugs, alcohol, date rape, etc. ... I worry about. This video? Not so worried. And every time I watch it I LMFAO.
C’mon folks, the TZ video is no worse than any of the other thousands on the internet. The only thing that the administration in that district has managed to do was show that they are nothing more than politically correct dunderheads. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Can anyone recommend an attorney who would be interested in representing the students and parents of the players. This is starting to get national attention.
TZ ad is Liam Frawley…don’t know the nyack ad
@Hockey mom—hahaha, I’m an attorney and I wouldn’t bother. You will be wasting your money. The kids had to forfeit a hockey game. As far as I know, they weren’t suspended from school and there will be no official “record” following them around. The only thing worse than dumb school administrators are dumb parents who think the cure for every dumb school adminstrator’s decision is to lawyer up. There are lessons to be learned here for everyone … Time to move on.
I completely agree with Rocket Fuel, Long Time Hockey Dad and others. Disagree with my fellow Suffern fans Cliff and OSM. You guys really need to lighten up. Sounds like Cliff has never been in a locker room and OSM, if you are too sensitive to even watch the video, don’t comment. Go live in your bubble. Look at the elite prep school hockey team Avon Old Farms doing their version of the Harlem Shake. Such bad kids. Give me a break. Just another case of aduts ruining things for kids. And to Hockey Mom, you will get nowhere with legal proceedings. All you will learn is that sports is a privilege not a right. If they kicked the kids out of school, you would have an argument because education is a right. Schools have a lot of discretion when it comes to sports. So they can act like fools all they want, which is what they are doing here. Way to turn an innocent thing into a national story. If you think the video makes the school look bad, can you think of a worse strategy then what is happening here? Now everyone is seeing it. and I still thik it is funny. people are way to uptight. violence in movies and tv is fine, but if we see a hint of sex, we will end a hockey season? absolutely ridiculous.
@longtimehockeydad
Kids are getting suspended for at least 1 day. Advice?
Suffern Fan and RF – You want to watch teenage boys wearing socks on their genitals, knock yourself out. I’ll hang out in my “bubble” and skip that video, thanks. Actions have consequences. I do feel bad for the kids who did nothing wrong. They are the real (and only) victims here.
It doesn’t matter it’s not like they would have won anyways
Old school Mountie. Seems like your spending enough time talking about teens in socks. For someone who’s uninterested, you seem very interested.
If you watched the video, any point you make would have some validity. Your the guy on the roller coaster who closes his eyes the whole ride. Wake up osm
In response to how can it be. They should do the student atheletes and everyone else in section 1 a favor, and send that c-nt on a permanent vacation!
That was great rendition of the the Harlem shake.. Funny funny video.. The political correctness of this country is out of control. No one was hurt. All you uptight self righteous people need to relax. The punishment did not fit the crime..
I love hockey.
NYTZ boys – You made us laugh! “A day without laughter is a day wasted” and if you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun!. Continue having fun and making memories! Ignore all the uptight people on this blog. But, always be mindful that there are going to be those people who feel that rules should be the #1 priority in life and will gladly turn you in. It’s a shame. Life is too short.
As a Panas grad, and a former member of the first itineration of that school’s hockey team, I am most shocked that we are in the frigging playoffs.
Now the PARENTS want to be famous too! Look at the IDIOT on Channel 2 News tonight!!!!!
It does seem like political correctness is out of control in this day and age. Not sure the punishment fits the crime here. Such a shame. Maybe posting it to YouTube wasn’t the best idea.
If this was the football team it would have been swept under the table. Free the Hockey team. You bunch of liberal fools. Get a lawyer and have your day in court boy’s. this is America and we do have a right of freedom of speech. God Bless America….......
