I thought a special dedication was in order to honor a team that showed up night after night and played outside the spotlight just for the love of the game. Ossining went 0-20 this season, and not once did I hear a rumor about kids bailing out. That deserves a nod from the rest of us.
By the way, The Saw Doctors are an aging Irish band who I believe is still making the rounds, and they are terrific live. This isn’t my favorite song from their catalog, check out I Useta Lover, it’s got some classic lyrics.

It’s easy to be on a winning team. Shows great character to stick with it, come to the rink and work hard, lose 20 games and not give up. Most kids today have weak character and quit just because they are not on first line, or not on the PP enough, or not the starting goalie etc etc etc. Or they don’t like the coach. This has to be the first generation to use this lame excuse… “I quit because I don’t like the coach”. How damn soft is that? Like warm butter. You play because you like the sport… not because you like the coach.
Saw Doctors are good, but I’m partial to the Cranberries as far as the Irish bands go. You want a good irish band, try the cranberries.
Amazing voice…. support the I.R.A.

“an aging Irish Band”...they still look younger than U2.
Back in the beginning days of this blog, the early parts of the 21st century, Ossining had some very competitive teams.
Now in the days of, if you don’t have travel players you can’t compete, many schools have choosen to combine, aka, Nyack and TZ . While other schools combine even with plenty of travel players to gain a more competitive edge, aka the Clarkstowns. A couple of years into these combos I believe the result is less kids learning and playing hockey at those schools.
Kudos to the small school holdouts, Ossining, Pearl River, Byram Hills.. taking on beginners and introducing them to the great sport of hockey.
Shane MacGowan and The Pogues, = Greatest Irish Band of all time…
I second that emotion. Shane MacGowan and the Popes (after he drank himself out of the Pogues) are pretty good, too.
Al -Rye needed two goals in the last 2 minutes to emerge with a 3-2 win over the O at the start of the Garnets 2007 playoff run that ended in Utica. I think Ossining gave Pelham a scare a few years later (maybe 2009) in the semis before the Pelicans went all the way to the state finals. Ossining is not far removed for some srong perormances. Good luck to them in the future.
Haha,I agree Mike…. you could also add The Chieftains as the best collaborators of Irish music…
I’ll throw out…. Thin Lizzy and the Boomtown Rats as far as irish bands go. Props to Nyack/Tappan Zee on their first winning season.

Hothouse Flowers, Waterboys, U2 (especially the early stuff), Luka Bloom … I have a vast Irish collection.
I forget Thin Lizzy was from Ireland. Love them. Of course U2 was the most famous of them all.
Don’t forget Van Morrison
