Quick, somebody flip a light switch on at Hommocks, let us know what happens.
There should be plenty of electricity when Rye and Pelham get together and renew a great rivalry after postponing due to a lack of power at the rink. And give the coaches due credit. This would’ve been an easy one to skip over knowing the intensity that comes along with this kind of game. A single injury could derail a lengthy postseason run, but it’s a game close to the hearts of the kids in both programs so they are squeezing the game in.
You all know I’m a little shaky when it comes to crunching numbers, but I did get the calculator out so I could make some seeding projections, and here’s what I came up with with …
If Rye wins –
1. John Jay
2. Rye
3. Greeley
4. Pelham
If Pelham wins –
1. John Jay
2. Pelham
3. Rye
4. Greeley
That means, a Pelham win might result in a semifinal rematch. John Jay and Greeley end up on the other side of the bracket, along with Scarsdale.
Here is the recent history …
2/1/12 Pelham 5, Rye 0
1/5/11 Pelham 3, Rye 2
2/27/11 Pelham 1, Rye 0 (Section 1 championship)
2/3/10 Pelham 3, Rye 3 OT
1/13/09 Rye 2, Pelham 1
2/11/09 Rye 2, Pelham 1
3/3/09 Pelham 3, Rye 1
I am going to be covering the game, and if there’s any cell signal, I’ll be tweeting updates @LoHudHockey. Often there’s no outside communication at that rink. Deadline is going to come and go while the game is going on, so I’ll first put the game story on the blog and it will appear in The Journal News a day late.
Leave a prediction before you go, and go early if you want a decent parking spot.
I don’t want to completely overlook the other games, and there are plenty of them because of the snow that fell over the weekend. A lot of seniors will be honored in pregame ceremonies, and I tweeted out this note last night … New Rochelle’s Chris and Joey Ramondelli are going into their final regular-season home game as the leading Section 1 in goals (34) and assists (31) respectively.
Leave a score if you’re watching … especially if you’re checking out the RTH-RCDS game, which is another wild rivalry.

I think if Pelham wins Rye drops to a 4 seed and on the other side, as Rye would only get one bonus point for playing Pelham. The only way they are on the same side is if they tie tonite and Pelham wins tomorrow.
Pelham 5 Rye 2
AS(2) WC(1)WD(1)DM(1)
iona scored 3 goals in the last 5 minutes to win
New ro game now 7:10 because of the mamo sleepy game at 5:10
I think i have written on here many times what a big fan I am of Pelham, but I want them to crush rye tonight.. Kick Rye’s A$$!!! Why you ask? I cant wait to read the analytical BS FOTG will come up with as to why Rye got killed.
“well you see, based on Rye’s play on the 2nd tuesday in february, and the fact that we are 5 days post snow storm, as well as Rye missing several key players, who play football, and the ice was a few degrees warmer slowing rye’s players who are typically much faster than pelham.. blah blah blah!...”
postman – you are one angry dude. You ought to try decaf…..
Mammos game is at the Hutch??
LOL not angry at all.. smiling quite a bit today actually
Q-
Yes. It actually is Sleepy’s home game, not Mamk’s. It was originally at the Hommocks because Sleepy has no home rink. Since Pelham and Rye were using the Hommocks tonight and the Sleepy game needed to be rescheduled, they got ice at the Hutch instead.
postman
Is that your dog sprinting across the TZ bridge looking for an SPCA officer? Wow. By the way, you left the youth coaches out of your rant.
This is very interesting. I don’t think the Greeley Pawling game is going to count…which DOES affect things.
If Pelham wins, Greeley loses one of their bonus points for playing Rye.
If that happens then Rye actually finishes slightly ahead of Greeley.
So tonight’s matchup will drastically change the brackets.
Hommock’s is going to be awesome. Sal’s sicilian here I come!
HA!! good one Mike!!
Sounds like postman does not have a heated driveway.
Rye is simply not the same team without Benicassa
I don’t expect Pel to have much problem tonite but don’t expect a beatdown…
I liked postmans rant.
The better team wins. No excuses.
Math- I forgot Rye win % would drop below .750 wth a loss and Greeley loses a bonus point and goes below 3.7 on the index with no chance to raise it since their last game is after the seeding meeting. Only way Rye and Pel on opposite sides is if Rye wins tonite. Thinking BIA rooting for a tie or Pelican win, so Garnets and Pelicans on oppsite side from Jay, Greeley and Scars.
Postman- I get it that you want the players and coaches to just be quiet and play hockey. But, if the fans followed suit, there would be no traffic on this blog.
i dont get this stuff, are sleepy and MP eliminated from D1?
Very true postman. While fotg is knowledgable and does provide some good facts and analysis, he is so slanted against Pelham its ridiculous. He has been that way for years and years. Even when Pelham wins (and they have won the section title 3 of the last four?) he always brings up a time when Pelham lost to Rye, although its been a few years, or he minimizes Pelhams win. I doubt Pelham cares but its so ridiculous. Its one thing to root for your team but to go after another program every day is a bit much. May the better team win
I hate math … if Rye loses:
Greeley
12 wins = 48 points
1 tie = 2 points
Add in the nine bonus points and you get 59/16 = 3.68 index
Rye
14 wins = 56 points
1 tie = 2 points
Add in 16 bonus points and you get 74/20 = 3.7 index
I remember when Rye won 3 of 4 section titles from 2007 thru 2010 and the Pelham fans responded by blogging about all their section finals appearances in the early 2000s. The two programs have had a series of nice runs that their respective fans should be proud of. Pelham has been on the latest of those runs. Should be a good one tonite.
MTP is eliminated
SHI must win 2 remaining games vs Mamo and Pelham or they are also eliminated
Just feel the need to complete your post

John Jay looking good in the #1 seed
This is my FOTG impression…
“good win by pelham last night, we (rye) didn’t back check well, forwards couldn’t burry the puck, the goalie had a off night, and the zamboni driver clearly missed a spot in front of the net that cost us a goal. Other than that Rye clearly outplayed pelham…the game was similiar to when Rye beat pelham back on Jan. 12th, 1997 by a score of 7-2, only difference between that game and the one last night was we did a much better job back checking and the forwards put the puck in the net, and our goalie stood on his head!!”
True story!
Right on the money postman
Was checking the NYS ice hockey records section at http://www.nyshshca.org/records.htm
There are a bunch of players that played for those great Clarkstown North Teams in early to mid 2000’s that should be recognized. These records have been submitted multiple times by the coaches, AD, and Sectional Coordinator. Mike, Jon… or anyone out there possibly help these players out in getting their due recognition.

Why didn’t Warger submit them when they happened?
These stats have to be submitted to me from the school and or coach and have to be verified.
If they are they will be submitted to the proper place
CN Alum
go to http://www.nyshshca.org some of those records are there. All of them may not measure up to the existing records.
Wow, Mahopac has really fallen off a cliff this season. What’s going in Pac-land?
What would the seeding looked like had Pelham Rye not been rescheduled and assuming Pelham beats Sleepy?
PAC fans blame their goalie all the time. Meanwhile their offense put up 1 lousy goal. I guess they expect to win 1-0.
Yorktown is playing for their playoff lives
Looking forward to the Pelham Rye game at the Ice Hutch in the semi-finals
John I have submitted them to you. None of them are on the website.
Thanks for your help,
Dave Lynch
The records have been submitted by myself and Chris Serra (Clarkstown head of Athletics) on separate occasions over the past 2 years. All the records measure up and be easily verified by looking over the past scoring leader booklets that are given out the annual awards banquet.
Your help in getting the athletes their deserved recognition is much appreciated.
These blogs are great, what I do not get is why so hostile? let the bragging start tomorrow. The game will be played tonight. Scouting report: I believe the Pelham team is better if they played 10 times Pelham would win 7. That being said Rye will run 3 lines with 2 centers. 5 on 5 the game will be tight maybe 2-2 at even strenghth. Rye must stay out of box the games they struggled in (Greely, Clarkstown, RCDS, RTH 2nd game) cost them. Pelham PP is solid they practice everyday on the ice and Coach Witz is a master of the PP. Rye must establish a forecheck early, Rye cannot let Cullen carry the play from end to end. Rye must play with an edge take the body when they can force Pelham into turnovers create odd man rushes in their favor. Rye needs big games from: Chin, Lipari, O’Brien, Hinson and Talgo. My prediction Rye wins 5-4 in regulation. Good luck to all!!!
You say that Pelham is the better team, yet you believe that Rye wins, I’m a gonna take your opinion with a grain of salt, as you are clearly biased towards Rye
1. JJ 2. Rye 3. Greeley 4. Pelham
2-1 NR over Clarkstown early in second
It’s a blog. Every blog gets heated. The football blog is twice as brutal.
Except Pelham sucks at football
5 NR Cl 3 end of second
The real issue with goals for and goals against is the better teams allow fewer goals, the two teams leading their leagues are Suffern who gave up 25 goals and John Jay who gave up 29 goals. Many teams can score goals but the real test is who can stop goals? That will be the question come the playoffs, the playoffs will be decided by excellent defense and goaling and a team that can put a few in the net. Defense will decide the Champions in DI and DII. I am still looking for two BIA teams to be in the finals of DI and DII. Do not count BIA out.
NR 6 Cl 4 Final
We suck at football? Our coach of 25 years stepped down because of personal issues, our new coach was a JV coach for several years before having to adjust to the style of Varsity coaching.. He installed a new offence and defense. Half of our players quit simply because they only played because of our old coach. That included our quarterback, so a player who did not play as an offensive position as a junior, much less quarterback, had to start at QB. While starting at safety. We are getting new player that used to play for Fordham Prep and started as both a Freshman and a Sophomore. We have a deep Junior class, along with new Seniors playing. We were playing the hardest schedule in the class A. Come watch us play this upcoming season and you’ll see
sorry to keep throwing this out there but goals against is relative. Goals against who? look at Jays schedule its not like they are playing power houses. So goals against for them vs. goals against for Suffern is quite a differnt thing
This is a hockey blog, and yes the football team has not done much in recent years
Kelly tosses RTH Coach
4-0 RCD
7-1 Mamaroneck (Final)
9-1 RCDS wins.
Rcds must’ve been pissed from that fieldston embaressment
Suffern winning 4-0 after 1st
Wait, did I see the blog correctly? New Ro losing to ETB 2-0 on senior night?
Any update on the Mamaroneck game besides the score? Who scored?
RF- TH-F had 4 in the first, they cruised…
1-0 rye
Thf could’ve had 10 goals if he wanted. Mamk showed new ro how you ease off on an opponent with lesser ability. Mamk score 4 goals in the first five minutes. This could have been real ugly if mamk didn’t ease up.
4th liners got lots of playing time and backup goalie played last two periods.
SOG. After 1. 6-6
2nd period underway
2-0 rye
2-0 Rye. If Rye wins this game, I will have no idea who the hell is supposed to win the section this year. I really thought Pelham would smoke Rye in this game, especially without Ryes high scorer.
3-0 rye
HOLY SMOKES. It is Rye smoking Pelham???
pelham just took their 4th penalty of the game. 1st goal off a give away. 3rd goal off a pp
I think we are gonna be hearing some very quiet pelham fans on the blog tonight…
end of the 2nd 3-0 rye. SOG 16-11 rye
Rye is defending FOTG’s Blog Cred…
3-0. Rye after 2. SOG. 16-11 Rye
Ta- da
Yeah team couldn’t leave FOTG exposed!!
Hey not counting Pel out AT ALL. Still one to go
HA, Postman is going to have to read FOTG’s in depth recap of how they manhandled Pelham without their best scorer.
You know who is hating this score more than anyone else? John Jay. JJ could have met Greeley in the semi’s…. now they will have to face Pelham in the semi’s… a much tougher task.
That is if Rye holds on for the win.
I think that JJ’s schedule wasnt really that though. Although they did have a few good wins, i dont think theyre schedule was anywhere near as tough as rye or pelham’s schedules were. Not saying that JJ is a bad team. Just not sure if they should get the number one. especially since they lost to rye and didnt play pelham
New Ro down 2-0 after 2 on senior night, and score 7 in third to win 7-2
A rye win would be huge for Greeley. Now they play HEN HUD/byram instead of Scarsdale in the quarters. Then they have rye who they played with once and then they are in the finals where it’s anyone’s game. It’s a stretch, but it’s right there for the Quakers to see if they can pull something togwther
3-1 rye
pelham having a strong third out shooting rye 7-1 with about 7 min left in 3rd
New York Rangers and Rye Garnets tonite both proving the theory that the 3 goal lead is the toughest lead in hockey to hold…
3-2 rye wins. 20-18. SOG. Pelham
12-0 suffern
Need a score please.
Yorktown vs Hen Hud Final?
Yorktown 4, Hen Hud 3
Thanks Ta Da
that is why chap. love him or hate him. shows respect for the game and won”t allow his players to pad their stats. good for the game and his players
they call it class, new ro should find some
It’s probably going to start raining tonight into tomorrow, because it sucks to be a postman. FOTG just pulled his best rotweiler impersonation and peed all over your leg. Looks like you are dealing with the same deficit as the USPS, because you failed to deliver. I thought postmen deliver words, not eat them. Am I missing any softballs here? Rye 1992 looking like a genius now—and correct about the utter futility of personally attacking bloggers with pregame nonsense. It’s awesome to post predictions and fire up the respective fan bases with good old fashion smack talk, but being petty is unbecoming of a postman. Shipping and Handling? No, you’re just left handling a big pile of your own ship talk. Knock, Knock postman…
Nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn’d. Ouch!
Easy ETB Mom, you must be another Pelham hater. Rye won, and played very well, but if you were there, and you probably were watching New Rochelle beat Etb, It was a great game, and I doubt Pelham or Rye is too worked up either way as both have bigger things in mind. The fact that Postman called out the smug propaganda machine known as fotg is not a bad thing, it may actually keep him honest in his passive aggressive approach. Pelham did have fotg sweating late and it was a great atmosphere and great game by two super teams. Good luck to both in the playoffs, left see another one of these at BIA soon
I gotta write the game story, but I had to stop here and say … Postman. Postman. Postman. Now you know why I don’t pick regular-season games.
Hey Tigerbeat- since I’m guessing your stats padding comment was referring to the Suffern game, just FYI- the last 4 goals were scored by: a freshman who netted his first varsity goal, a soph 4th liner who scored his first of the season, and (probably most importantly) a senior who’s been in search of his first varsity point for the past 3 years and was lucky enough to score 2 goals on senior night!
Also, much like when they played MW last month, the 1st 2 lines were invisible in the 3rd period…. and the 2 backup (senior) goalies played the whole game.
Just another hockey fan-
I see your point, and was very happy for those guys (especially Osborn). If only Patwell could have found the back of the net.
However, I didn’t take tigerbeat’s comment as a knock on Suffern. I saw it more as a knock on NewRo who beat Sleepy 15-3 last week as opposed to Mamk who took their foot off the gas pretty early it seems against the same Sleepy team and “only” won 7-1. If you go back and look at the comment posted by “Mamk” at 9:00 last night, that guy/girl makes the comparison of the Mamk/Sleepy and NewRo/Sleepy games and tigerbeat was probably responding to that.
Take it easy, and don’t get so defensive.
Cliff- I appreciate you for pointing that out because I missed that comment by “Mamk”. If that’s where tigerbeat’s comment was directed, I not only apologize for my defensive response, but also have to agree with both of those comments.
Hahaha You gotta love Cliff Clavin telling someone not to get defensive after his ridiculous rant the other day on the guy who asked him to answer his question 3 times. HAHAHAHAHA
CN Alumni,
Good luck with Orlando helping you with North records. If it does not concern Suffern, it is not a concern for him.
Cliff.
Two questions…
I know you did this a few years back, but can you figure out what the average margin of victory and average goals for and against per game is this season. And compare that to the final season of the power leagues. ??
The blogger known as HockeyDad when he (or she) isn’t annoyingly using one of a hundred other names is testing my support of the WP program with endless rants about how the system is flawed and how White Plains got screwed with a low seed, and how the power leagues would resolve the problem of too many blowouts…He (or she) has made it personal accusing an individual of not doing enough to change the playoff seeding system. Even the Real Deal with Bil McNeil is starting to pull away from the power league idea because of HockeyDad.
Just an opinion, but the playoff seeding formula is borderline brilliant. It is the same formula across the state for all sports. (even football?). It cannot be subjective in any way. The best teams always seem to find a way through.
Anyway…my second question is…who is the tall, handsome gentleman, with the chiseled features and velvety smooth voice that announces the fifty-fifty winner at Sport-o-rama?
Ned-
I don’t remember doing that, but it seems like a good idea and not too difficult since everything is saved in neat little spreadsheets on my laptop. I will get to it at some point, but I’m a touch behind in updating stats and would like to get them updated by the start of playoffs in case teams need them for game programs. So that needs to take precedence.
As for your other question…that guy is AWESOME, isn’t he?
Thanks Alumni, I have been trying to get those records recognized and updated for the past 2 years. It took a lot of research and many emails/phone calls to verify that I had all the correct stats. Funny how other teams have an easier time getting things done in this section.
#$$%@@#%$ shi…#%@^@$ fargan… CRa… son of B..Not a good night, not a good night at all!! LOL..
Ironically. New ro played right after the mamk game. Maybe they learned something about sportsmanship.
Sorry Tigerbeat, but Sufferns coach Dosn’t let his first and 2nd pad there stats or the would easily be in the tops in section one in scoring, the 1st and 2nd Lines were put at the end of bench and were no longer playing with about 5 minutes left in the 2nd period at that point it was 8-0, if Nyack can’t stop the 3rd and a mix of 4th and 5th liners and a 8th grade d-man from scoring, than they have there own issues.
@Cliff Claven
When are all of the stats going to be updated on the Section 1 sight?
@mamk. Doubt new ro learned anything
x-mountie it's a new ro tradition to pad their stats dating back to the late 90s with the old 5 pts on 4 goals talk to the ref bull#*!Working on it. I got backed upwith all the makeup games this week and the seeding stuff for tomorrow. Hopefully by tomorrow evening at the latest. I want to make sure its done before the playoffs start in case teams need them for game programs.
Thanks Cliff, you are the man.
OK ….Thanks dubby, because Sufferns coach dosn’t do crap like that
