You want a real test?
Soundly beat a Suffern team that is reading and believing the hype, then cross the bridge later in the season and play the Mounties at Sport-O-Rama. You know a number of corrections have been made since Mamaroneck won the first meeting, 4-3. You know there’s going to be a high level of intensity. You know the rivalry game is going to get bumpy.
And if the Tigers figure out a way to win again, hats off.
Truth is, both teams have improved since they met Jan. 11 at Hommocks, and both are getting healthy at the right time of the year. Mamaroneck has won five in a row. Suffern has reeled off six consecutive wins.

Both teams playing well. Should be a great tilt and likely preview for sec 1 title game. Both squads have their younger players contributing now.
Suffern was skating around checks in the first game and the D depth was not evident. Seem to have righted the ship on those counts.
Mamo will need Brill to play his best game and the D will need to play smart and make the right play to limit odd man rushes and costly penalties.
Will it be broadcast on any local cable channels live or later in week?

First off – yes, Bigby will be in attendance, alledgedly leading a “black and orange out” for the Mamo moms. I believe he is getting his tips from well known fashionista Brenda “Ginger” Bigby.
Now back to the game. Lazy work by The Insider above. A quick trip to Cliff’s website will tell you that shots last game were 23 -21 Suffern. I would dare say that neither goaltender played the game that they would liked to have play.
Interesting observation. A lot of Twitter action on the Suffern side touting their recent tilt vs. Toga as a preview of the state quarters. A good amount of hockey still to be played between now and that potential match up….
If the older and bigger bigger Mamo plays a physical game against the younger and smaller Suffern and the Tiger goalie is on, Mamo can win at SOR. If Mamo lets the Mounties skate around without much contact and the Mamo goalie lets in a few softies, Suff wins rather easily. Mamo has the skating skill and depth to play with Suffern. Needs to avoid a quick start by the Mounties. It will be interesting to see how the game is called at SOR. At the jungle game, Suffern bench was yelling every time a Suffern kid was hit hard, looking for boarding or charging calls that were not made.
@rjmkrm A lot of twitter action on the Suffern side? Now your just getting silly. Suffern has lost two games this year. Both to section 1 opponents. To say we would look past any of our local rivals is purely fabricated.

Ned, are you losing it? Good points FOTG? I thought that was one of the worst pregame I ever read! what team isn’t in trouble if they don’t hit a faster team and when their goalie gives up “softies” ( a word that should be banned from all hockey conversations by the way, sounds like little joey needs a tissue)... It will all come down to how well chap does at keeping his Dmen back and not getting caught pinching, which is always a problem for mamo.. too many odd man rushes and it could be a long night.. I am still going with it being a great game, and 4-2 win for suffern..and probably could be argued that it was played even closer than 4-2…

first off, Modica didn’t give up 4 goals last time. one was an empty netter. Can’t blame him for that one. It is true that it wasn’t one of his better games. He played below his usual performance. On the other hand, I believe Mamo’s goalie played at his usual performance. I expect a better game from Modica. Tiso coming back is huge for Suffern because it was clear what mamo’s defensive strategy was last time, and it worked. Not as easy with Tiso back. Suffern also has Carudo and Mahoney back on D and that allows Costa to play forward. Unfortunately for Suffern, just as Tiso came back, first liner Robert Clarke went down with an injury and will not be playing for a while. Suffern also needs to hit Mamo and not just get hit. Not very common for Suffern to give up 4 goals. I say Mamo scores 2 or 3 and Suffern wins 4-2 or 4-3.
Hen hud is looking good there first line with rosé garret Malinowski and solid defense by dalton and albano makes them get out to early leads. They also have great goaltending. There on a roll.

Pelham handles New Harford tonite and loses a tight one to RFA tomorrow. CTWN rolls over South GF tonite and gets by GF tomorrow. Jay handles TI by a few tonite and surprises Oburg tomorrow.

Is it me or are suffern bloggers trying to combine everyone how good their goaltending is?hes a good high school goalie. Stark and natoli were significantly better. That’s my opinion. But he’s one of the top 10 I guess. Plays behind the absolute best defense and system in section one. Alot of goalies would shine there.
All this talk. It will be a real good game either way. probably will come down to a blown call by a ref? A bad penalty, or a great save or a soft goal. Suffern looked soft and scared last time around. I wonder if they will toughen up with their crowd behind them and hear “crazy train” a completely played out song by a derelict. Hey Suffern, the 80’s called, they want their song back.
N-W- Interesting Question. I thought Jay was the last team in the state to lose a game when Rye knocked them off last weekend. If you go on the compouter rankings, everyone has at least 1 loss. Hard to tell which of those 1 loss teams have not lost to a public. I am guessing its a Sec 5 or 6 team that has lost just 1 game to St Joes.

Agree with the statement above about goalies, it is so easy for a goalie to be called great when you have an excellent defense in front of you. The opponent is forced to take shots that can never go in but you get a save because it reached the net. The quality of shots against a good defense is very low making it that much harder to score, any average goalie can play well behind a good defense. Hen Hud and White Plains goalies are very good and play behind an average defense so I would say they are stronger goalies.
Suffern will be up for this game, If Mamaroneck weathers Suffern’s initial storm they will do fine… I think it will be a close game regardless.
Best of luck to both teams… to make it interesting, if Mamaroneck wins, postman, Suffern Fan and OSM buy the first round. If Suffern wins, Bigby, rjmkrm and Rocket pick up the tab, if it’s a tie Dougherty breaks out the Journal News credit card.
Suffern is not going to lose to the same team twice. Tiso, Hill, and Jeager should have a great game. Modica isn’t gonna screw up again and he’s going to have his head on straight

Great great game at SOR tonight. Bloggers can posture all they want. These are two very evenly matched teams. Both goalies played well.
Mamaroneck might have an edge with the forwards, but Sufferns D is tremendous once again. So difficult to get around them, and they don’t allow passes through the middle.
The fans were loud, but it was not sold out. I thought it would be. Mamaroneck had a lot of fans at the game, I guess they got the fan bus going?
Mamaroneck had a flurry with about 45 seconds left, and one glorious chance, there were too many bodies in front I could not tell if the kid lost it off his stick, or the goalie stopped it or what.
I hope both teams take care of business in the playoffs and play the rubber match up in Brewster. It should be a great game. Congrats to suffern. They played really well.

It was cancelled because of weather. I believe it’s been rescheduled for wednesday
Suff and Mamo very similar. Both very deep. Modica more technically sound than Brill, but the Tiger tender gets it done in Tim Thomas fashion. Schiff and Carudo are a push. Mounties a little deeper after that. Up front, Bellis is the best of the fwds. Then Tiso. THF and Hill are a push. Pretty even after that.
Where to begin? Great atmosphere, hard-nosed play by both squads, intensity throughout and a down-to-the-wire finish. Mamaroneck’s #8 is a beast…very strong on the puck. Both teams held serve at home and seem destined to meet in the Section 1 D1 finals @BIA.
Two final thoughts: Rocket Fuel and Ned have a bar tab to pick up at Sutters and whether or not your team won tonight, if you were at SOR to see that game, you won. HS hockey at it’s best.

It would be a sin for these two teams not to play a third time for the championship. That was the best game I’ve seen in years. Both teams are amongst the best in the state.
After both teams winning on home ice, I’d love to see who takes it on neutral ice.

Newro is getting worse as the season goes on, what else is new. Gillespie makes crown better but not good enough. No d1 school at BIA is any good at all. Including a wayyyy overrated somers team who played nobody all year.
Both teams played great last night and I belive the Championship will Come down to a repeat performance of both these teams in the D-1 Section 1 Championship. I don’t see any other teams as good as Mamk or Suffern in D-1
