Not my favorite memory from school. Do they still do that? Anyway, the midterms are done and we’re back to a full schedule of games. The highlight is a rematch of last year’s D2 championship between Pelham and Scarsdale. Fog was an issue when they attempted to play a couple of weeks back, now frostbite is the biggest issue.
It’s going to be chilly at Murray’s, but there’s not as much wind in the forecast.
The wool socks are in the dryer now and I’ll be watching Scarsdale and Pelham, so follow me @LoHudHockey if you’re happier staying inside and reading updates. Either way, leave a prediction on this game.
We do have a number of marquee matchups. Iona Prep is heading for RCDS, and I’m pretty sure the boards are going to be rattling again. They both play aggressive hockey. Greeley needs to beat Fox Lane to claim a share of the Conference 3 title and finally have something to put an empty banner that hangs in the gym. Suffern is on the road again, playing Saratoga, which is 13-1-1 with wins over the likes of Willy North (5-2), Mamaroneck (6-0) and Queensbury (8-3). And if you like a fun rivalry Yorktown and Lakeland/Panas are bumping heads.

Toga – Suffern is an interesting tilt. Toga gets a great home crowd for Friday night games and they will surely offer the defending state champs a warm welcome.
Tough off-the-bus game for the Mounties, especially on the larger ice surface at Wiebel. I’ll still take the Mounties though, in a low scoring affair: 3-2 final.
Saratoga, Will North was a 4-3 game after 2. Toga won 5-3. I don’t have a prediction, but I’ll definitely be looking for Suffern/Saratoga updates. Definitely a statement game heading into the home stretch.

Suffern surely has its hands full tonight. I think Toga has flown under the radar a bit. I mean they did make two finals in a row in Utica and last year lost in OT to the state runner up Pittsford. They didn’t make it into the top ten ranking until week 3 or 4. I don’t think people are giving them the respect. They are a 3 time defending Sec 2 champ and have been impressive this year; have handled Shenendehowa and Queensbury, they beat Churchville Chili when most had them at no 1 in state, beat Mamo pretting good and tied powerhouse St Joes from Buffalo. Only loss was a one goal game to Pittsford in Rochester. This is a possible preview of a state quarterfinal matchup. Keeping my fingers crossed but this will be a tough one.
Good to see Schaur back. Looks like Scarsdale still banged up. Going Pelham 5-2. Seems like DII’s 5 team race could come down to who is the healthiest come crunch time.

greeleys problem tonight was that for some reason they played two lines, and its not that the two lines arent good enough in fact just the opposite, its that they get tired. you cant run two lines and not expect people to get tired. if i were greeley i would try to organize three lines and give the top two lines a little more rest.

Schauer was back and Pelhams first unit took off. They had 27-30 shots and good chances. Both teams missing key players still, Pelham missing 2/3s of their seconf line and Scarsdale missing Schell and Burnsie. Pelham was very physical and played 3+ lines, and changed line combos throughout the game. Scarsdale battled them and will be ready for the sectionals and will do well. People at the rink say Pelham won the league with that win, if so thats a major accomplishment in a very good league with Scarsdale White Plains Mamaroneck and New Ro in it

Goalies stealing games left and right at BIA, Fox Lane and Hen Hud goalie stood on their heads.
When Rye beat Mt. Pleasant 11-0, I didn’t see anyone calling their team and coach classless. What people fail to realize is New Ro played their back up goalie, the game was 4-3 5 mins into the 2nd, they benched their top 3 forwards in the 3rd despite only having 9 forwards total, SH/I/DD’s top player got kicked out so they didn’t have much offensively, and they put in a very inexperienced goalie to play the 3rd. I wish you people would get off your high horses because it just sounds bitter. I can gauruntee you, Coach Tozzo has been on the wrong end of many of those games in his 34 years when he had very little talent. He got some 8th graders their first varsity goals which must have been exciting for them. I for one would not tell my players to stop scoring because I feel that is more of a slap in the face to the opponent.

Nice try. It was 4-1 after one period and 9-3 after two periods so New Rochelle scored 6 goals in the third period? Come on thats crap. The remark that New Rochelle has been on that side of it too makes no sense, two wrongs dont make a right.

What does playing your backup goalie have anything to do with scoring 15 goals? Why would you bring up a rye score? New ro knew sleepy is struggling this year, so when the score gets to 9-3 and you are obviously dominating, why bother with 6 more goals? Make the kids pass it around, or dump it in and work on neutral zone defense.

Lose to any decent team but crush the weaklings…when WP played Sleepy, the 3rd & 4th lines played regular shifts in the first period so they got good experience not just “garbage time” against the 3rd string goalie. That is what a coach does to turn a mismatch into a more positive experience for everybody involved.
Fulton, you must be the proud parent of nrw ro hockey, I hope not the parent that was saying those horrible comments after 2 quick goals made it 4-3. This is why new ro gets no respect. Good luck the rest of the way.
New ro is a huge city school district. They’ve had a librarian and an administrator tossed in jail for felony crimes lately. Do you think they really care if their veteran coach runs up the score and doesn’t show good sportsmanship? It’s been going on for 30 years. Why would they care now?

My name is Vince Tozzo, I am a volunteer assistant coach for New Rochelle and my uncle, Jim Tozzo. I’ve written on here once before when a player of mine was being trashed. I’m not here to explain our win last night because you bloggers don’t deserve that. My uncle has been coaching for 34 years and is beloved my many former players for what he did for them on the ice and in the classroom. What I’m going to say is that rather than hide behind a blogger handle and call someone classless and try to tear them down, why don’t you come have a conversation with me or him? I know who my uncle is and after reading this thread I can see some of you have some deep seeded, long standing issues especially whoever referenced my cousin, who graduated like 10 years ago. If you have an issue, bring it to us personally, but to do this behind an anonymous blogger handle, is pathetic. Now I’m sure, by reading this thread, you all will have “clever ” responses for me, which I expect, but I will assure you this is my only post on this matter. If you have something to say to me or him, do it in person and own up to your comments.

MEANWHILE, if we gt rid of the ridiculous league setup that we now suffer with, there would be FAR less blowout situations to deal with…half the BIA games need a “slaughter rule” like in youth tourneys – it does not have to be so painful…BRING BACK POWER LEAGUES !!!

Any HS coach (veteran or rookie) should not allow his team to go into 3rd with a 6 goal lead and proceed to score 6 more…no debateunacceptable-saying a district has obvious problems is not bashing it…that stuff is a matter of public record
Youth hky at the non-profit volunteer level is not part of this HS blog’s discussion scope (there is room for discussion of high-level, for profit, non-volunteer Bantam & U16 programs where the best HS players spend far more time than with their HS team). HVHL (home of most non-profit/volunteer programs) no longer is the place to find Bantams who will lead their HS team in the near future.
To sum up: no one on this blog cares a bit about your vendetta against a local HVHL program

google Mendelowitz. he worked at scarsdale and greeley. so why don’t you pick a school district without “problems” to trash. and “volunteer” is not the correct term if one is paid. My guess is high school coaches who you are trashing are paid a lot less and thus are “volunteers”
