How many pairs of wool socks can I wear and still get my feet in my boots?
I’m going to be at Ebersole this evening for Mamaroneck and White Plains, and I’m pretty sure Chap will have one heck of a pregame speech … it’ll probably have something to do with Mother Nature being a Dubset fan. Sure it’s cold, but I’m betting the kids will be talking about this game years from now, and the wind chill in those bar stool stories will be 20-below.
Anyway, you can follow me @LoHudHockey for updates.
Leave a prediction for the game before you start pulling on layers. It sounds like both squads are going to be very close to full strength.

Ebbbbrrrrsole. Wind chill rule could come into effect tonight. I would love to know the genius that decided -11 (with wind chill) was the magic number…...
The kids who are playing in the game will be fine. It is the players who are sitting on the bench who will have to dress smart.
Forget the state rule. Either school could step in and just say it’s not a good idea to play today. But that would be the “wussification of america”, to quote postman.
Forget about all that. The real question/prediction is whether or not Chap is wearing shorts tonight.
Time to break out the toe warmers!!
Wp 4 mamaneck 3
Its going to be a close one, if white plains’s goalie does not have an off night they will be able to beat mamo im thinking 3 to 2
Cant wait for the great coaches comments after the game
Mamk seems to have righted their ship, couldn’t have come at a better time. Not sure how much the goalies are going to want to get in front of a slap shot, frozen puck is going to feel like they are catching some grapeshot. I think mamk keeps it going 6-3.
Given the temperature and the fact that they are playing at Ebersole I say wp will win tonight. Don’t forget they have been practicing all week in this weather. My prediction wp 3 mamo 1.
the question is – will Chap be wearing shorts?
The real feel is a balmy 4 degrees? Nice. Better go to CVS and pick up some lotion.
You know it’s cold when your heating bill is higher than your mortgage.
How cold is it?
So Cold that Richard Simmons AND Coach Chap are wearing pants.
How cold is it?
Pamela Anderson was downgraded from “hot” to “tepid”.
How cold is it?
we had to push the house down the street to jump-start the furnace!
How Cold is it?
Chaps moustache will shatter if he screams.
How cold is it?
If players drink hot chocolate during the games… the refs will call a de-icing penalty!
Thank you ladies and gentlemen, make sure to tip your waiters/waitresses on your way out.
My name is Rocket Fuel, I’ll be here all week.
Two nites in a row outside for Mike, right? And its supossed be snowing when the puck drops at Murrays tomorrow nite. That has a real winter clasic feel. Thinking Mamo handles WP 4-2. Pelham manages Scarsdale by the same score tomorrow.
My prediction. Chap will be wearing capris. Perfect mix. Still gets to show off his legs and gets a bit of warmth. Oh right the game!! Prediction 4-1 for White Plains. Stangarone will keep WP in it and WP has some really good offensive players. Mamo has the offense but not the defense.
WP 3
Mamo 1
Expected at puckdrop: 17 degrees, -5 Real feel. WP gotta get it deep and keep it there or Mamo comes up on top 3-2.
Ain’t chap and Richard Simmons the same person?
Screw the NHL. Tonight is the winter classic!!!!
Mamk is a much better team. Home ice and sub zero temps won’t matter.
Are the Section 1 Playoff schedules posted anywhere? Not who plays who but when the games are.
RTH has added games vs clarkstown and greely
Lanmo check bottom of page on section1hockey.com. Standings, then go to bottom
Rocket Fuel
can you say over-inflated sense of self importance…hmmmm?
I still can not understand how someone can enter the blog using someone else’s blog name, the original BIA?
BIA (the original)
And to make it worse, your handle was hijacked by a Suffern fan, which is why he went after Rocket Fuel. Don’t steal usernames, folks, especially when you’re just looking to rattle somebody’s cage.
Evercold will be brutal tonite – bring blankets to the bench and hand warmers
predict another one goal game
I am not in favor of cancelations for the slightest reasons, but this one should be cancelled today. We’re not talking 30 degrees, we are talking 20 at the most. Aqueduct cancelled their horse racing today for crying out loud. Most schools have a 32 degree rule (It actually might be a state rule, Im not sure) that kids cant go outside if its less than 32 degrees, for the risk of catching pnuemonia(probably didnt spell that right)
They are out playing for about 35 minutes per period…tops
At Eb they cut the ice during both breaks (15 minutes inside)
Finally, wind chill is greatly diminished by screens and structures
When game time temp is 30 the players come off sweating.
I’m pretty sure they will survive game time 10 degrees lower…
I am not sure about these cold weather games. I think there is more chance of injury in a game with temps this low. Just saying
South of 287-
Evercold is a good one, but I prefer Eb-Brrrrr-Sole.
Rocket Fuel,
Somewhere, Henny Youngman would be spinning in his grave, if it wasn’t to cold to do so.
Thanks Mike, proud to be able to watch the Section 1 Championships at BIA.
researched the NY state rule, as I am a school teacher and I wanted to know….there doesnt seem to be any guidelines unless provided by the schools. Many schools have their own rules about keeping kids inside going from 20 to 32 degrees, others have formulas with wind factors. But many of the guidelines say to use discretion and obviously dress appropriately.
Its just good old hockey weather. The ice surface will be super hard. The players will love it, especialy the ones that can really skate. McGee, Bellis, Schiff. But, you need good edges on the hard stuff. Thinking the sharpening machine at Peck’s might be backed up tonite about now. I always thought the relatively small size of Ebersole was a great equalizer of skating talent. From practice this week, WP knows how fast the puck moves on the hard ice and will have an easier time judging stretch passes than will Mamo. But, on hard ice the advantage also goes back to the quicker, more agile skaters. Mamo has more of them and should win tonite.
Nice win for Mamaroneck..
Mamaroneck 6 White Plains 2
final
Nothing much to say about the game. Morris #13 had a nice hat trick. The better team won. The cold did not get in to you until the 2nd period. If you were dressed for it, it was fine.
WP hit a post when it was 2-1 MHS, but after that it was pretty much all Mamaroneck.
Oh and to fake BIA, pipe down before I steal your wife.
Your forgetting the first 5 minutes of the 3rd when WP dominated to start but couldn’t get the equalizer. Mamo goes down and scores to make it 4-2 that finished WP off. Thats what good teams do, they finish teams. WP defense is weak and have little depth. The more I see WP, and the rest of the division 1, the more I notice this is a 2 dog race for the section. Mamo and Suffern
ip-rcds tomorrow 445 at rcds
Final score Weather 8, ref’s 7. Mam 6, WP 2
insider told me CJ had 2 assists tonight
Looking more and more like its going to be Suffern and Mamaroneck playing for the Section 1
D-1 title, should be a classic.
Mahopac vs Mamaroneck in the finals.
I know this will be an unpopular comment but playing that game in those conditions last night was a joke. Guys are sick and injured and to play in that type of cold is a joke. I know many of you bloggers say toughen up etc. but you arent skating in that. Its bad and stupid
I played in the game last night and usually i don’t post but I had to say that last nights game and games in conditions like last nights are the best hands down. I can’t explain why but I think 75% of the kids playing lasts night would agree that it was a lot of fun.
Heard Bigby and Hockeymom became acquainted. Can a “cute” little bloggerhead be far behind. im thinking Janine Garofalo with freckles…....
Interesting – earlier post thought conditions called for cancellation (9:15AM)
Later post from a player said it was great fun (10:54AM)
Could the 1st poster tell us if they were on the ice last night, in the stands or just whining, helicopter parent???
I was there as a spectator-parent. No one was in any danger. Wind was largely blocked. Ice was super fast. About 20 at puck drop…Below 15 at start would get dicey. But last night, with two intermissions, was no real problem
great game last night for number 13.
it’s about time the league starts to notice him… need to work on that celly though.
I saw Rob’s dad at around 8 p.m. last night. he said he had a “client meeting” and couldn’t make it to the game.
he smelled like a combination of Jameson’s whiskey and Aqua Velva…
I asked him if he could break a 20 and he gave me all singles folded the long way…
let’s go Mr. Morris…. need a better effort out of you
lighten up Uncle Steve…
you sound like the kind of guy who would anonymously criticize a local youth sports organization….
I’m sure Rob’s dad had a perfectly good reason for inflicting the kind of life altering disappointment only a dad can bestow upon a son.
it’s true that Bigby did meet hockey mom yesterday.
pretty sure that hockey mom hates everything about Ned Bigby but she could not have been nicer yesterday.
the one thing we have in common is that we both think Clarkstown s is a complete tool… her words not mine.
If Ned and hockey mom had a kid…. that kid would be the greatest blogger ever. If they team up blogging, it would be a greater combination than Stephen king and Peter straub.
If mamaroneck tightens up on D and stops giving up so many good scoring chances to teams, they’ll win the section this year. They usually win regardless, but like mike says, at some point it may bite them in the butt. Which could happen in the semis.
BTW. I hear at the next mamaroneck game, they will play Cats In The Cradle by cat Stevens as the pregame song in honor of Morrises dad.
Youngsters can google the lyrics to get the joke.
glad no one is getting personal…Uncle Steve is like school in the summertime….no class
Mike D – you searching for bad 80’s videos or controlling the blog?
And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin’ home dad?
I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son
You know we’ll have a good time then
Wow, this is the first time the blog brought a tear to my eye. Poor Robby Morris.
Bigby, Did you have hockeymom over to moms basement for cocoa, and show her the picture of our 12yr old swordfight? Might explain her leanings.
Hey, I know I’ve been dead a long time, but Cat Stevens? Really???
Guilty as charged. First Varsity game missed in two years and it took a blown car engine to do it. That was one expensive hatty….
South of 287
Don’t worry. Rob’s dad knows where Uncle Steve lives, it’s all good clean fun.
On the next episode of Diffrent Strokes.
Mr Drummond misses Arnold’s hockey game. Arnold and Willis demand to be brought back to the orphanage.
Well I see I am not forgotten…was away for the weekend and just catching up on the blogs. You guys are just too hystericcal!
BTW Ned…don’t tell stories that are not true!
