There always seems to be somebody missing.
We’ve had so many top players sidelined this season by injury and suspension, and the powers that be have not been exempt. Rye is playing one last game without top scorer Michael Benincasa, who is going to be following today’s renewal of the neighborhood rivalry with Rye Country Day via Twitter. So far, the Garnets are 3-0 without him in the lineup, but this is the best team they have faced while he’s been serving a fighting suspension.

There is some good news. It sounds like a majority of the injured players are going to make it back in the lineup before sectionals. And players like Benincasa and Mike Gillespie of Clarkstown are going to come back with strong legs for the stretch. That’s going to make things very interesting.
