So the marquee game is New Rochelle vs. Mamaroneck, which is kind of a fringe rivalry. There are still players on both rosters who remember what happened in the playoffs a couple of year ago. The Huguenots pulled a memorable upset. And you can plainly see the Tigers hold that against them.
It should be a fun game, and I’ll be there providing updates when possible. Follow me @LoHudHockey, but know there are cell issues over there.
We’ve got some other big games, too. Suffern is hosting a nice get together, and opens it’s tournament against Salmon River. Pelham gets Ithaca later on at Sport-O-Rama. The rivalry between RTH and Rye will be played up in Norwalk. And from a competitive standpoint, North Rockland and ETB are pretty close so that could be a fun game to watch.
Leave a score, please, if you’re out watching or tweet at me and I’ll pass the update along.

Just went through the live chat replay. Great read with the morning coffee. In college our version of the Jurman game was a drink of “Hawain Punch” every time Howard Cosell spoke on Monday Night Football..
Should be a good game between the two road warriors tonite. Fitting that both teams have to bus 40 min to Norwalk to play it. I was the first to complain when Rye doubled up with RTH. But, the Titans have surprised us all by playing the top teams tough. Just 4 losses thus far (3 by a goal and the other by 2 goals) . All to teams in Mike’s top 10. Looking back at all the RTH kids’ “under the helmet” features, these guys circle Rye on the calendar. Good test for the Garnets. Thinking Greeley will be rooting hard for RTH.
Mike. U mentioned the hommocks crowd has been lacking lately. One reason is the 5:30 slot this year as opposed to 8 pm on Saturdays. The other is the kids get kicked out of the rink by the uptight administrators if they even fart wrong.
RTH brings a lot of heart and a lot of character into tonight’s match up. As far as predictions, RTH comes out on time based on their physical play and heart.
ETB vs North Rockland is 4:15pm at SOR….sorry I missed Chat last night as i was playing the Google Zamboni game and lost track of the time!
That was “RTH comes out on top tonight”.

...I want to have @rocketfuel’s #baby
That should have been “RTH comes out on top”. Please forgive the typo.
Lol @ Ned. I my faves are the well adjusted line. And having rocket Fuels baby.
If you want to c rocket fuel. He’ll be at tonight’s mamk game. He always struts when they win. So look for that. But even when mamk loses, they win. So there’s a 100% chance of strutting going on.
dont be suprised if Yorktown slacks and Ossining gets their first win tonight. Always close games between the two. You never know
Rye and RyeTown/Harrsison-check out the benches at the rink at SONO. (Very Strange) The rink is also too small.
6-2 new ro
Outsider- I think they have 2 rinks. A smaller training rink and an NHL sized rink. Like Playland. I would expect the HS game to be played on the larger sheet.
even though its not a marquee matchup pac vs carmel is always a fun rivalry game. doesn’t matter what sports its always competitive
They say they have two NHL rinks on their web site. I don’t think thy have one? I think they are both the same size. (Small) But, I may be mistaken. I think the benches are strange in both rinks as well. Watch out for the second period change if you are the visitor.
correct- The rink is undersized, not near a full size sheet. Same for both teams though
and @newronation, I know you want to root for your team but that prediction is ridiculous
The benches are not in the same spot for the two teams. The visitor bench is completely inside their blue line while the home bench is not.
heading over now. Could be an interesting situation at Norwalk. Rye plays Jay there next week.

Updates on suffern
jeeesh, Mamk likes living on the edge. Their gonna have to tighten it up come playoff time
Greeley defeats Masuk 3-1
Mamk was god awful tonight. Lucky to win 6-5. Goaltending was weak, and how about getting their cross ice passes intercepted constantly. Very lucky to play so not smart and still win.
hear 1-1 rye RTH after 1. Apparently 17-1 SOG as to rye
Suffern score
mamo loves those 1 goal games
What is the Rye/RTH score? Anyone know?
3-1 rye after 2. SOG 30-4. Hear RTH goalie unbelievable
Mamaroneck needs to focus defensively, way too many letdowns. Regardless still a good win.
Rye 3 RTH 1 – second
Suffern 0 SR 0 in the second
0 – 0 Going to the 3rd
What was up with Mamaroneck? They could not put this game away? They kept making stupid passes cross ice that were intercepted, passing the puck through the middle of the ice in their own zone that were constantly intercepted etc. New Ro got behind the d men on several occassions with mamk leading by 3. ’
It’s like mamk thinks “oh this is not suffern, so we don’t have to think about what we are doing.”
My god do the New Ro coaches like to work the refs or what? And the refs entertain it instead of skating away. Ridiculous. I’ve seen less whine in a liquor store.
Just goes to show, Mamaroneck is capable of losing to anyone, and capable of beating anyone.
1 -0 Suffern 3rd
I agree Crush..
Rye wins 5-1
SOG Rye 49 RTH 11
Mamk smoked New Ro the first period. Outshot them 13-4, lead 3-1 and hit 4 posts. Why can’t they keep that intensity for 3 periods? Never saw a team just allow the other team to take over the game late and almost steal the game.
Mamo with a bad job of letting New Ro (blank) around….
what did Suffern do tonight?
Suffern final score anyone? Any Pelham/Ithaca score yet?
Suffern won 2-0
any scores from BIA?
Any update on the Pelham/Ithaca game?
Was at the Rye game. The Sono rink is nice. Cold. Fast. Think that benefitted a Rye team that skates a lot better than the Titans. Could be tougher next time at the friendly confines of Ebersole. RTH a lot like WP. Think Ketch might be better than Stang. Close, though. Am interested to see if Benny can snipe Ketch. Tonite the RTH goalie stopped everything he saw.

Spiderman – Pelham final?
2-1 pel
Great finish . . .
2-1 Pelham final
Yea, Chap doesn’t work the refs at all…
Good win tonight for Pelham, went early to Watch Suffern and Salmon River, Suffern looked very slow tonight, not a Typical Suffern home game win over a hard working but I would say not very talanted Salmon River team although the Goalie is there best player. He let a fluke shoot in, hit offs someones body and in, than an empty netter. Not Sufferns best, but as always they find away to pull out a win.
Who score for suffern
A little off topic but does anyone use WSA as a home rink? It could easily be white plains’ home rink?
Mr. Bigby,
You caught me, what was it our similar vernacular?
I am a fan though and do monitor @JokeHudHockey tweets and I agree there is far worse out there on Twitter.

Charges close to 600 an hour for ice, I heard.
As much as I enjoy reading this blog about hockey in new york state, and the poster FOTG`s analysis I do feel there comes a time to point out unfairness when its necessary, as many people around New York state, and from upstate do read his analysis and take it as gospel. Last week Fotg went on about how the “rox” of Salmon River have not won a game since opening night, and indicated they were a big name team that was down, and even compared them to some of the Ryes hockey teams upcoming opponents. Last night the “down and out” rox coming off a 7 + hour bus ride on a yellow standard school bus, were down 1-0 to Suffern with two minutes and change left. The down and out rox also just lost in overtime to Massena on Wednesday. He also posted, that Rye Town Titans team and Rye was going to be even and close, and a good challenge for Rye, and that the Rye Town Titans were better or comparable to the rox. Looking at last nights results that was another incorrect sure thing that was posted. In fact, if I`m not mistaken, Rye is missing the leading scorer on their team and he may be the leading scorer in section 1, and they still had virtually no trouble from start to finish last night. I realize that anyone can post anything they want on this blog, but if you are going to analyze teams you should at least see them play before you knock them on a public forum. You should understand the type of hockey thats played in their section and understand the competition they play before hastily writing them off. I know that a few years ago the Rye team did beat Salmon River in the regionals, and they won convincingly, but Rye has not played Salmon or Massena or St Lawrence who are the top of the line in section 10. They played some section 10 teams maybe last season but those teams were not the best in the section 10 group. For some real facts Salmon has had some losses and they have a AAA junior goaltender and a few others that were not available to them until last week. Its no excuse mind you, but they are back and the analysis you had did not take that into account. Its quite a different team then they were early on. Suffern won because Suffern always figures out how to finds a way, and they were very good last night, and thats considering they were missing a bunch of players still injured.
why would wp move from a rink where they have ice almost everyday and i believe the school district has a deal worked out with the wp rec department so the school doesn’t pay for ice instead they allow rec sports teams to use the schools fields. That may have been confusing but basically wp doesn’t pay for ice and has 4 ice slots a week at a great time
Informer- you are right that I have not seen the Rox play this year. Just looked at comparable scores and the fact they seem to have a hard time scoring. Sounds like they have important players just joining the team. We all know that the addition of just one or two at key positions can make a huge difference at the HS level. And yes, RTH was overmatched last nite on the larger sheet. They looked much better when I saw them on the small sheet at Ebersole. Rye has travelled to play Ogdensberg the last few years. Aren’t they state ranked this year? As I have said before, I wish the Garnets had tried to get Massena and Salmon on those past trips. The Salmon rink is a classic. Have heard playing at Massena is a great experience. Nothing but respect for Sec 10.
Rye is a skating/skill team. Playing a few north/south teams that bang would be good for them. Thinking the upcoming games with Jay and Pel should do that.
Does anyone know of a rule in any other section other than section 6 that requires a student athlete to have a level of commitment to their high school team over juniors or elite midget? I hear about Suffern players playing for nj hitmen and now informer is talking about the meat of salmon rivers team has a break from aaa juniors to join the club. The commitment rule in section 6 prevents that. At Niagara Wheatfield we have three kids that attend school everyday but can’t play for the school team. They play jr sabres 18u midget elite and are unable to meet section 6 commitment requirements. If the other sections don’t have this obstacle to putting the best team together I’d like to know.
Grammarati,
I guess our secrets out…
It was probably my use of big SAT words that gave it away. But, it’s not my fault this blog is ignominious because the iconoclast acting wanton.
My take is each team deals with it individually. Some teams are extreme and allow players to come and go to junior hockey. Some allow a few conflicts, and some do not allow any. New Hartfords team tell players to just not come out for the high school team if they cannot fully commit. I think its up to each coach and team to create its own policy. thanks fotg, understood. And yes Pelham will certainly be a good physical game for the Rye team. Pelham is always a banging hard playing team, they go full throttle 24/7
Informer has to be a psuedonym for FOTG. “People around the state read this blog and take his word as gospel”, that’s good, lol. On the other hand I didn’t see any knock of the analysis of Salmon River or anyone else. It’s called an opinion based on their record of 1-7 or 1-8, whatever they are.
Rye coach has a rule that every HS practice missed results in sitting out a HS game. Every HS game missed results in sitting out 2 HS games. The kids figure it out.
I did not see an issue with the analysis either.
I don`t know what you mean but I respect your thoughts and opinion. Its not an “issue” its the making of a strong opinion about a team with no information other than numbers or record. Its making an opinion with not only seeing that particular team play in the last three years at least, but not seeing anyone in that section play this season. Thats all I was trying to say. The analysis of the lower new york teams are probably on the mark as the poster probably is able to watch those teams regularly for seasons and seasons and really gets to know the players
And some “coaches” allow their travel and junior players to come and go as they please. And don’t hold them accountable to anything.
This is the section 6 rule.
Commitment Rule
All rostered Federation players who are also a rostered player on another hockey team, must attend at least 80% of his team’s Federation games (13 of 16 games). Anytime that a player falls below the 80% requirement due to another team’s commitment, and cannot possibly meet the standard, he is suspended for the remainder of the Federation regular season and play-offs. This does not apply to JV Club Hockey players who must meet all NYSPHSAA minimums and standards.
Pac Carmel game anyone see it – Rivalry games can go either way,
For the record someone else has taking to using the same blog name as the orginal BIA, so please find another name, thank you.
Carmel defeated Pac 5-4 and one of Pac’s players is gone for at least 4 or 5 games after throwing punches and connecting with a Carmel player. He is a big 6’4” players and he hurt his team with his actions.
Pac player will be suspended for 5 games, if he is a senior bad way to end your career. It shows no respect for team mates
@fanotgame
That is not true about the rye coach. Mabye it has been in years past but not anymore
