We don’t need the mercury to rise a lot more than it already has.
Right now, it’s warm enough at Ebersole to keep Ed Witz’ toes from turning blue and cold enough to prevent fog. White Plains has already announced itself with that win over Suffern, but the Tigers could always use another big upset. Pelham doesn’t need an introduction, but is working on cleaning up some issues that quality opponents are exploiting.
This could get very interesting.
I’ll be down at Ebersole for the game, follow me @LoHudhockey for updates. I’m pretty sure the game at BIA is a resumption of the game that was suspended when a puck opened up a sprinkler head. If memory serves, the Rebels were up 2-1 when the game was suspended.

Tonights game could be a great one for pelham, who could always use the momentum going against Suffern again next week at the Hutch. I think if Pelham plays tonight the way they did Tuesday against Mamaroneck and sticks with their team defense, it will be a very close game.
Pelham 3-2 OT
I think Pelham will give WP their second loss at Ebersole this season. Pelican ’s grinding style should be a perfect fit for the tight confines of that rink.
rangers open season at bruins saturday 1/19 7pm
Considering comparative scores, the fact that WP has played two consecutive OT’s at Ebersole and that the Pelicans have a few guys down…it is not too much of a stretch to expect a close game late this afternoon in WP.
Alot of these kids have been playing each other since Mosquitos (Pelicans v. Plainsmen) – should be a good game!
Post holiday sched for the very young WP is very tough – Rye, RTH, Pel, Danbury/Bethel, Mamo, Scarsdale, Mahopac and two upstate schools (no idea how good they are) – only 2 “soft” games out of last 11 (ETB & Mt. Pleasant)
Mike D,
It is waaaay past time to update your poll on the right hand side of the page.
Two young teams, Pelham with 3 seniors, and White Plains with 5 seniors. should be a good one. Pelham has Suffern up on Tuesday followed by Ithaca and Salmon River
Suffern is a tough test next week for Pel. Expect they willl fare better than they did up at SOR, though. Ithaca (my birthplace) is a solid DI team, similar to Mamo. A little better than WP. Salmon is having an off year (1-7-1) as they have trouble scoring- getting shut out in 1/2 their games.
Central Scouting rankings released tomorrow, probable locals:
Steve Santini (USNDTP)
Brett Pesce (UNH)
Mike Laffin (Apple Core)
Kenny Citron (Team Comcast)
in CT
Wiley Sherman (Hotchkiss)
John Hayden (USNDTP)
Alex Gonye (Deerfield)
Nice win for RCDS by the way. I do not know if Hoosac is down this year, but it is nice to see them still playing prep teams and sticking in there. They have lost a lot of kids the past 3 years and it looked like they were changing to a more Harvey like schedule with their FAA involvement but hopefully they can start trying to qualify for the NEPSIHA playoffs in the next few years. Not sure if the game against Kents Hill next week listed on their schedule is still on but if so that will be a great test as Kents Hill is Top 15 Ne prep school with a win against Brunswick and a tie with Philips Exeter.
Saw Rye eliminate Pecse’s and Santini’s teams at Playland in their respective final HS playoff game. Those two studs didn’t go down without a struggle. Great to see them continue to get press.
Mike-
Whou do you think is the most underrated player and most underrated goalie in the section
Thanks for the update, I did not realize Citron was doing so well, what high school team would he play for? Scarsdale? They already have been hit hard by kids playing prep and private.
Enough with the RCDS riff raf. I understand they are in a weird position of being in the area but not playing many local teams but we do not want to hear about them playing Hoosac, Brunswick, Loomis-Chaffe, Kents Hill etc. Its a different level and type of hockey than section1 and catholic and unless they are playing the local teams they should not really be in the conversation, regardless of how good or bad they are.
The only Sec One teams the Wildcats have played recently are Rye and RTH. Only Catholic opponent is Iona. RCDS used to play North back when North had that string of good teams. I can understand why some would not want them to be part of the rankings and discussion. But, by the end of their season, they are a very good team (as compared to the local publics). Not quite a Suffern, but competitive against just about eveyone else.
Re: the losing players to prep discussion- Scars isn’t the only team to lose players. Rye and Pelham have lost lots and lots of talent to the preps over the years. Also, more recently, ETB. To places like Deerfield, Avon, Choate, Kent, Canterbury, Northwood, Berkshire.
Hoosac is undefeated
Tweeting from ebersol?
RCDS also played Jay a few times recently.
Thanks NHL Draft for the update, good luck to a great group of skaters. Always special to see guys from the area get a crack at the show. I do not know where Citron played high school or if he did but Santini and Pesce both gave section1 atleast a year. I don’t think we can attribute their pro skills to playing high school but it tells you something about how special it is to play for your town and school that those guys stuck with it.
I happened to see Colin Reilly commited to Colby College (D3-Nescac) which is a great program and even better school. He did play 4 years of section 1 and that coupled with juniors was enough. For all the kids leaving to go prep and junior during high school I think this a good sign. I think there is a lot of talent in section 1 and that the likes of Benicasa, Herlitz-Ferguson, Bostwick, Jaegar, McGee, Bunyan and others could play NCAA probably on some teams without a year of junior and maybe D1 with two years.
If we’re going to discuss who is the hardest hit by prep school departures, my vote is Pearl River. Yes, Rye and Pelham lose kids all the time, but they still remain competitive and always in the section finals discussion. Even Scarsdale loses Jurman and still remains a top 4-5 D2 team. PR loses their best players to Bosco every year and it turns them from potentially playing at West Point every year to being a middle of the pack team in their best years.
Cliff- I was talking Founders League level departures. Players leaving for Bosco are not usually at that level.
Sounds like WP doing its thing at Ebersole again. Still think Pelham’s depth will prevail.
You always have to spot White Plains 2 goals when they play at Ebrsole, they know that ice better than anyone.
2-2 1:48 left in 2nd
Let me know if i missed an obvious one:
First Team
G Chris Stangarone (WP)
D Henry Girardi (HG)
D Austin Johnson (KPVH)
F James Nicholas (Scarsdale)
F Brett Malinowski (HH)
F Devon Schell (Scarsdale)
Second Team
G Brian Ketchabaw (RTH)
D Kenny McLean (NewRo)
D Aiden King (Pawling)
F Kyle Halloran (RCDS)
F Matt Conroy (WP)
F Scott Jakubowicz (HG)
Are we really that bored to have an All-Soph list?
And these Under The Helmet entrys should only be reserved for Seniors. They have earned it.
Not bad All-Soph Teams. I might flip Jakubowicz with Malinowski and your goalie tandem could go either way. But I would be splitting hairs
Iona won 8-2
Pelham 3-2 over WP
I could be mistaken but I think 8 of the 12 players you have there play on the AppleCore u-16 team
Also at all soph team-
I believe that Kenny is a forward
Great group of sophs, I would put Halloran on the first team though. I know Nicholas and Schell are great but this kid might be better. Besides Michael Rocco, he is the best player on RCDS. Will not fill up the stat sheet to a ridiculous extent but he plays a great two-way game and has the best hockey sense on the team.
Great game @WP
Down 2-0
Pelham battles back for three
2nd goal SH on tremedous effort from #28
DeYoung strong 3rd
His counterpart strong all game
WP a little winded late . . .
Sophs-
He may be good but not better than those to guys. On my list he is third on the second team after McLean and Jakubowicz
Kenny is a forward and he is first team material.
Correction : two instead of to
Nice win for Pelham tonight missing Schauer, Raffio, and Lambdin. Three guys that eat up big minutes. We have still not had a look at them full strength. Took out both Tiger squads this week.
Nothing fancy…good hard work…that’s the Pelican way
I agree with Cliff…no one gets more impactful private school defections as Pearl River. If they had RJ Burns and the McMorrow kid the last 2 years, they are a d2 perennial semi finalist the last couple of years.
Saw Burns on TV last Friday getting regular shifts for Army. A goal and 2 assist stat line in a win against number 19 ranked Robert Morris.
Spiderman, you mean #29, right?
@ All Soph Team,
I would Take, Verboys(Suffern), Tiso(Suffern) and Redgate(Suffern) All forwards over Most of Those guys, and I known they would would Dominate the Scarsdale Line
The JFK soph has no business on the first or second team, JFK played 14 or 15 games, when the other soph’s play that many games they will have many more assists and goals. I would take the Suffern soph’s over him in a minute.
Pelicans Peters nice goal. Always buzzing. Nice finish.
Plays both – remember great defensive performances as an 8th grader
Tough luck with repeated shoulder problems – great kid!
I guess this was a Sec 1 list but there Trevor Turnbull at Fordham Prep is one terrific soph…he has played with most of these guys – for some reason there is an abundance of Sophs this year.
yes #29 made a wonderful play setting up the shorthanded goal by Pelhams #12. Pelham just kept coming and going hard and strong. They were physical and played a solid game with a young group
For the all sophtomore team, tiso of suffern and peters of pelham
@hockeyman19 tiso verboys and redgate of suffern all play aaa hockey as the same with peters of pelham they should all be on the all soph team
so who are you taking off the team?
Not only do they play aaa but they are all very good players
Nice win at Ebersole for the Pelicans. Depth was a key as they kept coming at the Tigers all game. WP goalie was sensational and Pelham’s goalie closed the show with big stops at the end of the 3rd. Tremendous shorthanded goal unassisted by #12 to tie game and gamewinner # 21 from 29 to win it. Big win for Witz and crew.
No one should be taken off all those kids deserve it but if we are making a team of the best sophomores those four should be on it
Lets just say we will have some intresting years a head with all these Very Good Sophtomores !!
Very true but i agree with some of the above comments, Peters (pelham) and Tiso (suffern) should be at least added to the team. They are two great players and play for top teams and have hard schedules. They deserve to be on the list and also pelham and suffern are big name teams they should get a little representation. Just my opinion
what game were you watching – no disrespect to Pel #12 but Mike D. tweeted “inexcusable turnover” not great play by #12 – it was unassisted because the WP D handed it to him
Were you there? Handed it to him? Not hardly, #29 stripped the WP clean and dished the puck for the game tying goal that was a shorthanded goal. Someone at the rink said it was Pelhams 5th shorthanded goal this year in ten games, Thats pretty good against the type of schedule Pelham plays.
you got the wrong goal, #29 picked the WP player off the puck and set up @12 in front from the shorty. The tweet was not specific I guess
I’d like to see travel program listed in game programs (the simple foldovers available at many HS games) – I believe you could pretty well handicap a game based on where the players are on the U-16 & Junior teams in the area. It gives an indication of both quality & depth.
The better travel programs play 30 games before HS season opens up
I agree with you @theshow, Peters and Tiso should be on the list, both play on top teams with hard schedules, to bad Tiso will be out for sometime with a broken foot or leg, I think he missed the past game or 2, thats what makes these top teams so good like Pelam and Suffern, there deep!!
Here are my all sophomore teams
1st team
G Chris Stangarone
D Henry Girardi
D Aiden King
F James Nicholas
F ken McLean
F Devon schell
2nd team
G Brian Katchabaw
D Austin Johnson
D Brian Kelly
F Scott Jakubowicz
F Justin Tiso
F Brett Malinowski
3rd team
G Adam Pesce
D
D
F Joe Verboys
F Hogan Peters
F Matt Conroy
Note: although Brian Kelly is a freshman I still counted him as he is a 97
@Thirst quencher
Good effort with the list all a bunch of good players, however verboys, peters and conroy all as good if not better overall hockey than some on the 1st and second team (i don’t want to start an argument because all of these kids play aaa and are all very good). However, I know its just a list but i believe that verboys and peters should be given alot more credit than third team. Conroy is a very good player too that deserves more credit
@@ Rinkrat. WP defenseman passed the puck clean to the Pelham forward who had a nice finish. No pick off. Re-read Mikes tweet. Good grinding game by Pelham. Never let up on the puck.
@theshow
I’m shore people will respect your decision. Who would you switch my friend?
need a good D man leBlanc from mamaroneck
@in the stands
Is that for the list of sophs?
Most of the top player become the players they are by playing on a high level 16U team or Junior team in BIA – just the facts.
The goal your all talking was a shorthanded goal where the pelham player #12 put great pressure on McGee, who narrowly escaped by giving the puck to the WP defense man. Who then skated the puck in front of the net and then shift on a pass sending trickling to the high slot. Which is where #29 picked up the puck and shot through WP defenseman as a screen for a goal…In the end your both right and wrong, its clear who’s a WP fan and who’s a Pelham fan in this argument.
With the exception of nicholas and mclean everyone else is very similar. I guess the list is fine but if i were to make a switch it would be peters over jakubowicz and possibly verboys over malinowski. Just based on the fact that suffern and pelham have harder schedules (which almsot everyone agrees on) so its harder for them to stack up huge numbers in every game.
@thirst Quencher, Not Bad But Tiso has alot more points than Kenny Meclean and Tiso has missed a few games and Verboys should atleast be on the 2nd team, yes I’m West of the TZ so I’m alittle bias but Tiso can flat out skate and Verboys can do it all, Mike should do this as he has seen all these guys play and would give a more unbias opinion
rob buckley on mahopac is a good sophmore who you might want to throw on that list
Peters and verboys should be on second team hands down, not just based on high school stats but overall hockey skills. Never heard of buckley have to check him out sometime
i would just like to point out that Verboys, Peters and Conroy should all be getting more respect period. But the reason they don’t isn’t because they aren’t that good or anything like that. I think it is because on they’re respective teams they are not the best players. Mcgee>Conroy, Cullen and Schauer>Peters and Suffern has so many good players it kinda makes Tiso and Verboys stand out a little less.
If you have seen these guys play travel with each other you should chime in. I have seen Jakubowicz play along with Hogan peters and I just think Scott is better as he is a faster kid. Otherwise their skills are about the same. Someone mentioned Tiso over McLean because he has more points. McLean has been out for about two months now after he hurt himself. Then Verboys and Malinowski is a toss up. Malinowsky is a scorer while Verboys is more of a grinder
Lets try to end this peters, verboys and conroy are great hockey players. @going ched makes some great good points. suffern and pelham are top schools. suffern has one rep in tiso in the top two all soph teams. Peters sould be on the second team because he deserves it and is a good hockey player but also it represents pelham in the top two all soph teams. This way its fair because all these kids are the best if they werent they wouldnt be mentioned and now all the top teams will have a well deserving representative
ive seen these kids play. Jakubowicz is quicker and draws alot of penalties however peters has overall very good hockey skills and he can hit and score. Both are hard working and are very good players. Well scott may be quicker peters is more powerful. Mclean and tiso are about equal i would give the edge to mclean becuase he is faster and is always looking to hit, tiso is more funess though. Malinowski and verboys are both good but i would give the edge to malinowski (havent seen them play as much)
Thank goodness the weekend is here and we can talk about the upcoming important games instead of this blabber about which Sophomore is better
Peters, Conroy & Kelly played Viper – Tier 2 Bantam for Kevin Hagen last year
they all moved to Avalanche (Atlantic Tier 1 – American) to play for Tom Preville this year
IMO – a couple of very good youth coaches
Scott J, Girardi & Pesce were on that Viper team
1. James Nicholas
2. Ken McLean
3. Justin Tiso
4. Devon Schell
5. Hogan Peters
6. Scott Jakubowicz
7. Brett Malinowski
8. Matt Conroy
9. Joe Verboys
@travel
I actually think Scott is more powerful than peters. He can run through guys now. He also has a nack of getting to the net and is very speedy. I think he beats peters.
I would just switch Conroy with Verboys and switch Scott with Hogan
@ Thirst Quencher, i believe jakubowicz and peters are equal they do different things so its harder to judge. The Conroy Verboys change makes sense, the only arguement could be conroy is the second offensive power house for his team
1st team all section?
list seems pretty accurate. If anything though i would possibly change tiso over mclean and verboys over conroy. And @thirst quencher peters and jacubowicz are about the same but i would take peters over jacubawicz because the peters kid has more size
OK…ALL THIS WAS FUN, BUT ON TO THE WEEKEND GAMES ANY THOUGHTS ON SUFFERN AND MAMARONECK TOMMOROW, I DON’T KNOWN IF MAMARONECK CAN AFORD TO FALL BEHIND BY MORE THAN 2 GOALS GOING INTO THE 3RD PERIOD, MODICIA IS ONE OF THE BEST SHUT DOWN GOALIES, AND IF SUFFERN STARTS SCORING IN BUNCHS IT WILL BE OVER QUICK.
whats with the caps? i have my bet on suffern because mamos defense is struggling
Why does x-Mountie seem so mad?
The Atlantic youth Hockey League is basicly a Double AA Division of Hockey, The Atlantic Youth National Divison is More of AAA hockey as well as Apple Core and the New Jersey Hitmen U-16
So where are you going with this?
@ x-mountie
That statement was just flat out wrong
I’m not mad. that was my screw up, I have actually enjoyed watching this young Suffern Team perform beautifully when at the begining of the season everyone one was talking them down…...And yes they are all Home grown so its been great not having to read that Suffern imports players every day!!! I’m hoping for a good game, I would like to see Suffern have to really work for a win, because the winner of section 1 will have to play a very good section 2 team, no more section 9 walk over Monroe Woodbury Team.
how is it wrong …..@wrong statement
it had nothing to do with what was being discussed from what i had read. but regarding the statement if the ayhl teams were aa then why would they play in a aaa league and play other national teams too, the reason for it is the split season so the kids have an oppurtunity to be more committed to there highschool teams. and this year the hitman are much better than the apple core but this doesnt mean anything because the apple core could beat them on any given night. same with the ayhl teams, the better teams can beat almost anyone. so dont go saying
the ayhl is a aa league and then compare the overall of the applecore to the hitmen
I think that this is the best overall class that I have seen in years. Some in years past were top heavy but this group of sophomores are very good all the way through
Brian Kelly and Hogan peter are not good players. Seriously? Hogan has like 3 goals and that deserves him to be in the top Soph list? I dont understand. And scott is a much better player than Hogan
agree with quencher…this soph class is very deep, even deeper than just the players mentioned earlier
@Brian/Hogan Do not just base your decision off of stats. Obviously Hogan will not have as many goals playing on Pelham since they play such a tough schedule. Not saying either one is better or worse, but your explanation makes no sense. Peters deserves to be on the top Soph list because he is a good player, not because he scored “like 3 goals”.
@wrongstatement, just becaues they say they are AAA that dosn’t mean that they are, I have talk to lots of my old coachs from a few years ago and they have told me the AYHL has become watered down, I never said that The Hitmen were better than Applecore, I don’t known much about them, except I known my old Avalanch Coach told me the new league that has formed has taken players away from the AYHL and said the Hitmen even beat and shutout the Avalanche National Team in a Tournament which he was kinda suprised at.
Hogan is not a good player, I am not saying he is bad, but he is not a good player, maybe average
who will be the top guys on the 1st team all section?
just read in this morning’s paper that they are moving to chsaa
does that mean hockey also?
and does harvey have a hockey team anymore? seems like theyve played 3 games..
I think the reason that Peters has been effective lately is because of the line he is on. It’s him, Andrew Dzenis, and Vinny Mazzaro. Two of Pelham’s goals came from that line last night.
@brian/hogan
How can you say Hogan and Brian aren’t good they have a lot of school and are noticed players outside high school hockey too. I’d like to see you step on the ice against them. Alot have peole have been saying very good stuff about them so obiously there pretty good. You seem like some kid that doesn’t like them. Your wrong on that one
*alot of
just saw the comment about how peters and kelly aren’t good? Yea right, dont agree with @brian/hogan at all
@the game,
No, they are nice kids, I’m just saying that they aren’t that great of hockey players. They are not “noticed hockey players outside high school hockey too”, they play on the Avalanche American team which is a horrible team. They are a low level AAA team that should be considered AA.
@Brian/Hogan
My head is spinning with that post
Lovie please get me a drink!
So you personally know the kids? you seem alittle mad, could it be that you were not mentioned? How about keeping those comments to yourself because if they played against you i would like to see that
Not a shot in the world i take Peters over Jakubowic, Malinowiz Conroy or Verboys not a top 5 soph forward
x-mountie is right. So many kids these days play aaa that are clearly not aaa players. Peters a aaa player? come on now. Ayhl has fallen apart.
@yea
There seems to be alot of anger right now on the blog in general, but i would take scott over peters most likely, but i have peters over malinowiz conroy and veryboys any day
I think its great that on a slow night of posts for this blog (27 at around 6:30) the blog lit up when someone posted and asked a question about players in general. For the most part, the additional 70 posts were about comparing players, not specific teams and other than a few bias posts, objective.
It was actually fun to read, informative (given there were several kids I did not know) and avoided the usual insecurity of “mine is bigger than yours”.
I would love to see a similar lists for things like of Freshman, Juniors, Seniors
Best incoming class
Most improved players year to year.
I hope Mike reads this provides feedback on the merits of the suggestion.
Team by Team MVP
Peters is a very good hockey player, he plays against high competition outside high school no matter people say about the ayhl falling apart because there hundreds of kids that play in it. He possibly could have made other teams if they had tried out for them. But also lets stop bad mouthing these kids. Peters is in my top 6 all soph forwards not sure if to put jakubawicz over him or not
@section1one
I have played against against Kelly this year, nothing special at all, he might be alright offensively, but he is defenseman and needs to work on that aspect of his game.
Brian Kelly is already a good player as a freshman. If he continues to develop he will be the best defenseman in the Section by the time he is a junior. The kid has talent.
If you played against someone and don’t think he is special, keep it to yourself. Or let us know your name and we will all comment on you.
I have seen Brian Kelly play for many years, and our team has played against him. He is solid, and he is only a freshman who will continue to improve and will be a force.
It is rare that a Freshman can come in and be an impact player. Very few did last year.
I would take Kelly any day. He is a great player, a great kid, and has a great family.
We have a lot to look forward to in the next few years. Great young talent. Lets hope they all stay here.
Just to end it off i wanted to just make it clear that both peters and kelly are very good players. A couple may disagree but many agree. I agree with someone above peters is my 6th forward. They are all great player. This is enough
I think you are greatly mistaken in your comments. Both are very good players and both work very hard to get where they are. In the pelham games I have seen Peters brings another aspect to the game that most sophomores don’t have, his work ethic and his physicality. A 10th grader knocking over a senior is a great thing to see and really sparks up a team. The goals will fall for this young player. Even against Pelhams tough schedule
Omg. When I saw there was 112 posts on this topic I was interested to see what happened. Instead it is 100 mind numbing posts by parents of sophomores bragging about their kids.
I’m glad I read it though. Because now I know that it’s not possible to die of boredom.
Them u got the “my kid plays travel crowd”. I hate to break it to you, but as long as you got $$$$ you can find a “travel team” to take your kid even if he’s a complete stiff.
Besides the kids playing AppleCare or hit men and express, everyone else is playing glorified rec hockey.
If Tier 1 AAA, Atlantic (American) is really Tier 2 AA…then what is your take on the Tier 2 AA league Vipers & LI Edge play in…I can only conclude that you feel HVHL A is then actually House League??? I don’t disagree that youth hockey in the Met area has slipped a bit in the last ten years but that is mostly a function of much slower birth rate in the “travel hky” demographic (upper middle class HHI > $100K). At the end of the day, if a league is balanced and competition is good game after game – then it is successful, enjoyable YOUTH sport. That last sentence is a very fair assessment of AYHL U16 American this season – SO WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR PROBLEM?
Smart Hockey
Here’s my official response to anyone who’s hoping I’ll provide a breakdown of the best players by class or top incoming class year to year … Not in my lifetime! The absolute dumbest thing we can do to kids is rank or label them. I have my own wanna be athletes here at home and still coach a basketball team. Parents love to know where their kid ranks, and I see them at tryouts go from station to station with lawn chair in tow actually taking notes on the competition. I’m not feeding that fire. Standouts are usually pretty easy to pick out no matter the age, but 98 percent of the kids rise and fall over the years and these opinions that are formed have a lasting effect without considering all of the variables.
The ICEMAN cometh!
If your kid isn’t being looked at for NTDP or USHL or gone off to a top flight prep, he is playing the game just for fun. He is a future beer leaguer. Or not.
Mike,
That was quite possibly the best response to ridiculousness I’ve ever read. I can’t help to think it is parents and kids themselves trying to put themselves in to the elite category. Like Ice Man said, most teams are so watered down, most of them are glorified rec teams.
Just let your kids have fun, if they want to work hard and improve their game so be it. But most kids want to be kids, fuss around with electronics, sneak in to R rated movies, muster up the courage to talk to girls, and possibly even get good grades because after high school…. less than 1% of these kids will be playing ANY level of college sports and that includes D3 college.
Ranking the players as who is the best is completely subjective, so relax. Some sophomores never improve, or get burnt out. Some soph’s hit a growth spurt and wind up being better than the stars of yesteryear who have their parents crap genetics, and their parents lack of mental toughness.
Look at Rui Encanacion from WP. The kid did not even make all county. Yet HE IS THE one playind D1 college hockey.
Isn’t playing “for fun” the point…. .?
It doesnt seem like parents this time “braggjng” its people who play and watch the game. All this nonsense is stupid. All it draws is yes there are some top sophs but also there is alot of hostile comments too. Dont belive ots the parents on this one
@parents
Agreed.
Mike- Thank you for your input and perspective. I understand your rationale, obvious don’t agree with it but can see how it can used negatively.
Just do the opposite of what smart hockey does and you’ll be fine. The guy is terribly misguided.
Dzenis and Mazzaro have been key components of Pelham success who sorely miss their leading scorer. These guys provide hard hitting physical play and hard work for three periods game in and game out for Pelham regardless of the opponent. Their contribution is not measured on any scoresheet but it is measured on the scoreboard when the buzzer sounds
What happened to this blog. It’s turned into one big self promotion piece. Boring. Where is rocket fuel. Ned bigby. Postman. Turning chapanese. Fotg. Cliff Calvin. Old school mounty?
It’s just kids and parents bragging about how good they or their son is.
Out of 127 posts maybe 10 were not self promoting bragging wannabe’s.
Ice Man was that called for? Why can’t you include on a blog about HS hockey, a discussion of the players framed in different ways? Just so you know, Mike did not create the discussion that took place, a poster did. Did the series of posts devolve into anything worse than what usually happens here?
I’m glad he weighed in, I respect his opinion, it’s his game and he sets the rules. If he doesn’t like the topic, he can take his ball and go home. It doesn’t mean wanted the topic or asking him about it means you get to go negative on me.
Envy and anger useless
@ice man
Self promoting? I highly doubt it was the players or parents talking about themselves or own kids
It all started with a soph parent throwing a list out there to see how the rest of us felt about his kid and the rest took on a life of its own.
@promoter that sounds about right. it looks to me that some parent made the list to show how good they thought their kid was and he left players out to start a whole controversy. Too many people read too much into it and it got ugly. I found it funny how the list had no suffern or pelham players on it though
Im jumping into this conversation very late. There are an incredible number of talented athletes that play in our section, throughout the state and across the country. These young men give their time and their effort while playing a game that runs through them and is reflected in their talent and their passion. We sometimes forget that the game is a game and these athletes are indeed boys and students. We all could very often learn something from them.
I will make only make one comment regarding a player that was mentioned in the previous posts. This is not to compare players or any other trait. Brian Kelly is special kid. Set aside hockey. He is a fine young man (as are many and most players). His character makes him a stand out above and beyond what is accomplished on the ice. That same character has allowed him to be a fine teammate, stand out leader and well respected on the rink and in the locker room even as a 9th grader. Talent is a wonderful thing. Character is an amazing thing.
Good luck to all of the teams in Section 1 Hockey. Good luck to all the parents, coaches and fans. Lets all remember that while watching these great kids… while watching these young men chase their dreams as they chase pucks that we are fortunate to see a great game, with great effort and even greater emotions.
Wow, talk about reading meaning into things.
Boy, talk about a race to the bottom and making sure no one deviates from the party line.
Someone posts something that doesn’t include your precious members and it’s wrong or equal to insulting someone’s mother?
If you read the entire group of posts, kids were added, subtracted, their individual games were discussed.
Envy is not good
Does it matter that some of the sophomores are 96 birthyear and should possibly be junior high school players?
I mean juniors in high school.
which of the top sophs that were listed are 96’s? i think tiso is one
With all the talk about sophomores did anyone notice that freshman Will Arbo scored the first Mamo goal against Pelham and Nick Davidow responded by scoring the winning goal against the Tigers (his first). And tonight Jason Bienstock scored the second goal for the Tigrrs vs Suffern and dug the puck out of the corner for the third.
