Rye did what Suffern couldn’t in worse conditions, beat white plains at ebersole. They should be number 1
Mike how do you rank new Rochelle higher than clarkstown after crown just beat them handily 6-3?
I would of had RT/H make an appearance this week.
@Ta-Da and @Jules
I don’t think this weeks rankings account for games that happened today.
@bq
When was the last time Suffern tied Greeley?
Insider,
You taking shots at Greeley?
@HS Hky
I think you’re right, but considering they have 6-3 record in 2012 and those were 1 goal losses to New Rochelle and Scarsdale and a OT loss to Horace Greeley..they should get some credit maybe at #10.
2 teams that shouldn’t be taken lightly are RT/H and Clarkstown, you sleep on those teams and they will sting you.
Just my Two Cents…
So we are about half way through the season and a few trends seem to be emerging:
No overall dominant team
Injuries are affecting several top teams
Strong goaltending can keep an average team competitive/Weak goaltending makes competitive teams average.
With parity, coaching adjustments and depth will determine game outcomes over the next 5/10 games.
Bragging and bluster seem to die down right after the bragging is proven to be absolutely wrong!!!
Mike D,
Rankings updates are always great for conversation. However it is past due to get a new poll going on the right hand side. Thanks for all the hard work on this site.
Jules
The rankings only reflect games played through Sunday. Tune in next week …
Sorry but no dominant team? How about Suffern? Bragging and bluster proven wrong? when?
@Smarthockey a perfect example of what I mean. Suffern might be the best team but they also might not be which compared to last year would be complete fantasy. Therefore, no dominance.
Bq
I was at the game and rye didn’t beat wp it ended in a tie! In ot by the way. Not to take anything away from rye or wp who in my opinion are two very good teams. But a tie is a tie not a win in either teams column.
perfect example? Really? Suffern compared to last year? well we dont know if they will win the state championship, the season isnt over yet, but they have only one loss this year and are destroying everyone, so they are dominant.
FMOG1…what are you talking about?
Rye won 6-5 in OT. There was no tie
Fmog1-
Check your facts buddy. Rye beat WP 6-5 in overtime. You might have been there but just not all there if you know what I mean
Smart hockey proving once again he’s a dope. Suffern is ranked #1 in the state. How much more dominant can u be?
Ice Man, no offense but Suffern is not dominant this year. They might be the best team in section 1 or they might not, time and the remainder of the season will tell. They clearly are not as good as last years team, I don’t think that is an unreasonable statement do you? If you do then we have nothing more to discuss. State rankings just like the above are a snap shot in time and being number 1 does not mean dominant, just possibly better.If you re hanging you’re hat on that then again we have nothing to talk about
Smart hockey-
Sorry but your not really making any sense. Alabama probably wasn’t as good as last years Alabama team but they were still dominant team overall. Just because your not as good as a previous years team doesn’t mean your not dominant. Being dominant really is not only about how good you are but how good everyone else is to. Who in section 1 would you tell me could pull of an upset with out any backlash from other people
i believe the point that smart hockey is attempting to make is that all teams this year have vulnerabilities. suffern is obviously very good, but clearly (WP), they don’t have one go to scorer that could beat a top goalie playing his best (i believe stangarone played his best against suffern), hence, they aren’t a dominant team. a dominant team strikes fear into any other team, a dominant team has beaten you before you step on the ice because you know you don’t have a chance, a dominant team doesnt let anyone hang around, they pound and punish you early. this year, there is a group of very good, competitive teams at the top and while suffern may be the best of those teams, they are not dominant, in the sense that no one wants to play them or are scared to play them. very good yes, best of the best, probably, dominant, no. dominant is a very strong word.
its not about whether they are the best team or not, its about the fact that suffern has gotten worse (from last year, clearly) and other teams (mmk, rye, wp, new ro) have gotten better and closed the gap. they may very well be the best and win the section, but, unless they start destroying teams the rest of the way, it won’t be a “dominant” title or team. It very well could change and in late february everyone will be saying, wow, that suffern team was dominant. but i don’t think, right now, they would be considered a dominant team.
thirst quencher, alabama was not a “dominant team” this year. they were very good, but not without fault. they ended up the best of the best, but this year it was bama, nd, ore, kst, lsu, georgie, bama, not bama then everyone else.
You are both right! Getting old! Great game though.
Smart, This years Suffern team not as good as last year? well, maybe, but White Plains is not as good as last year and it goes in cycles doesnt it? Bottom line is you are trying to build or gain credibility for your team that now has “made it” as they are a “possible” contender. Saying that there are no great teams spins it better for you. Until somebody consistently (more than one appearance) makes it to West Point other than the usual teams, those are the teams that get the respect.
If Mamaroneck dosn’t beat Suffern Friday or atleast makes it close we can than say Suffern is the Dominate Team of Section 1, other than White Plains, Suffern hasn’t had a Game where they Felt Preasure in the Third Period, so I find it funny how people on here say Suffern is not as good as last year, when this team basicly has a bullseye on its back every game, everyone one wants to beat the state champs, this is alot younger team than last year and these guys get better with every game if you think there not that good this year…Wait until Next year when these kids are a year older!!
My mistake, you are a teacher, even youngsters make typos, that is what you them? Or is that absurd also?
Under wrong topic sorry.
