Can someone from Pelham pass on some updates? Wondering how young Gugliara fares in goal. Go A.J.!!
The LP vs Mahopac game is gonna be a blast. Both teams hate each other, great rivalry.
DFISH is beating Byram 2-1 after two at the mall.
DFISH 4-2 over Byram final from the mall.
Niagara wheatfield 6 Pelham 2.
Ouch. Thanks N-W
Not surprised Niagara is really good this year. Pelham, a little down.
Tonights game against LP should be the same as last game where Pac should out shoot LP by a fair margin, Pac needs to get a few more pucks in the net this game to secure a victory.
I think Pelham IS down from last season and having Schauer out doesn’t help. But don’t underestimate them. They’re a good team and these losses vs top state teams should only toughen them up and raise the quality of their play vs future Section 1 opponents and into the play-offs—that’s the Witz formula.
@ok horrific. Niagara Wheatfield lost 15 players from last years team. Have some talent but wayyy too early to label really good. Pelham played hard and had some good chances. Pelham goalie played well IMHO. Made a lot of nice saves, didn’t have a chance on most of the goals. These games will make Pelham better and when they get #15 back they will be a tough out.
If the freshman goalie played, then kudos to him for stepping up under pressure in a big game. Great experience for him.
NW, Niagara Wheatfield did lose a lot to graduation but they may be the best divy 1 team in the area. Watching todays game I really doubt Pellham was down about the loss. They played 3 plus lines and the game was physical with a great pace. Seemed like that’s what they were after out there today
Has three losses Suffern Williamsville East and NW. Two heavyweights in the big school class and Williamsille is a top notch small school no shame there
The only concern is whether the Pelicans were competitive in the last 3 games? Losses by 5,4 and 4 again isn’t great. But, the reports from each game indicate the play was more even than the score. Think this stretch will be good for the Pelicans. Other forwards getting a chance to step up while Schauer recovers.
Pelham is a slow starting team, always has been since I could remember, when people say they are “down this year” it actually means nothing, Ed has them peaking at the right time. They take their bumps early and turn it on at the end…when it counts.
Mamaroneck 2
Bethel/Brookfield/Danbury 1
FINAL
Nice work Mamo—Good to see Section 1 beat CT!
North Rockland beat burnt hills 3-2.
LP is slippin Badly pac outplayed them tonight and dominated the game. LP is falling quickly the team lacks discipline. Pac won 4-1 and controlled the game from start to finish.
Rye 6-0 over Glens Falls…
Nice first win for N-Rock?
Pac completely dominated game against LP out shooting them 2 to 1, Pac has the better team, the only thing that gives LP a shot is they have a good goalie. LP’s goalie kept them in a game they could be losing 7 or 8 to 1.
Any questions about LP vs. Greeley have been answered, the 7-1 loss to Greeley was no fluke, LP has been exposed. LP’s so called Cinderella season is going where most thought it would. And to those who said LP would win Section 1 this year, I guess that question has also been answered
Nice Upstate Win For North Rockland ….Rye beating a bad Glen Falls Team that was 2-7 now 2-8 not that Impressive
Anyone have an update on thwe kid from JFK that was taken off the ice by stretcher? It is always a scary moment when this happens
Hey @ The Burg,
So much for your prediction of Mamaroneck going 0-2 this weekend (yesterdays post).
Anyone know the details? Shots on goal? Who scored the goals?
Pacfan
Shots were 30-16 Mahopac, but it was only an 18-15 differential after the first period. Penalties were 11-10 Rebels. Mahopac is getting better, but I didn’t see a lot of impressive hockey.
Mamaronecks win is a Good win against a very good CT Team, that might get them back on track and a good win for the Pac over LP
So long L/P. thought some of you guys thout you could beat Greeley who is a middle of the PAC team. Well that’s the end of that after losing to teams worst than Greeley and losing handily at that. Dream on L/P
Pelham Fan- Any particular reason why you feel compelled to qualify other teams’ wins? It didn’t seem like anyone was deriding Glen Falls or lauding Rye for their 6-0 victory. It seems as if you need to criticize other teams (Scarsdale, Rye, ETB, etc) in order to feel better about yourself. Just let our kids enjoy their victories without having you place labels on their wins. Shame on you.
Mamaroneck”s goals by teddy bellis and Pete Conley, assists 2 for morris , 1 each for schiff and boyle. Mamaroneck outshot them 29-14, 1st loss of year for DanburyBB, play finals vs Rome 3pm Saturday
@ thirst quencher, how do you know that Greely is better than Somers/no salem and Mahopac?
@Mike – No matter how you look at it 30-16 shot differential is 2-1, whether it was in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd period it is the total number of shots that count ob the stat sheet. Agree the game was not pretty, the teams got a little testy with each other knowing that the winner will sit as the conference leader. You have to admit that had it not been for the LP goalie this game could have easily been an 8-1 game. And the Mahopac goalie did well stopping the shots he needed to. As far as not seeing a lot of impressive hockey as you said, give the team time to gel and hopefully by the end of the playoffs this underclassman group will step it up and play better.
I wouldnt class BBD a very good team. I saw they play Harvey this year and they did win but surely cant say it was impressive. If mamo goes out and beats RFA tomm then you are talking impressive and beating a good team.
RFA beat Corcoran 4 – 3 in OT
Mamaroneck will definitely be tested tomorrow.
ETB Mom
Absolutely
Lp had 10 players dressed, they held their own. Do not count them out just yet. They need ALL players on ice to compete. 2 players does not make a team, for LP this year it does. Penalties hurt them much more than Pac tonite. Pac controlled tempo and game, BUT needs to put more quality shots on net, not just shots, quality shots. They covered 14 on LP very well, frustration sets in and thats that. Should be a great playoff game if they meet.
Pac goalie made some good saves. LP goalie made some excellent poke checks and 2 quality gloves tonight. The refs seemed to take both players at a time when I know 3 cases it should have been just one player. They had their work cut out for them tonight.
@5hole – 10, 11 or 12 dressed players will not make a differnce when your team takes stupid penalities and players get thrown out of the game. LP had two players thrown out of the game tonight, does that mean they will play two players short against JFK tomorrow? LP is going no where, you need depth and discipline to win, both of which LP lacks.
Pacfan
Not arguing with you … just throwing numbers out there. Neither team was throwing a lot of quality shots on goal, both were doing a good job of scrambling on defense.
Mike
Agree there is room for improvement and that better quality shots would result in more goals.
Please ETB MOM….chill out, Pelham and Suffern get beat up all the time on these blogs, no matter what these teams do its never good enough, I guess its your first couple of days out here, The coach of Rye tweeted they won, which I think is kinda strange in it self, tweeting they won and now there 6-0, I would find it strange if the Pelham coach came on here and tweeted like that!! Its not they just beat a NY state power House, they beat a 2-7 team …Big Deal!!
PelhamFan
Whatever Suff and Pel “do is never good enough” on this site?? Stop embarrassing yourself with ridiculously inaccurate comments like that.
Please slacrosse, I have seen Pelham and Suffern get torn apart on here so many times, you must be kidding your self, if over the years you have read these blogs you wouldn’t have written what you wrote than….. in all do honesty!!
Lp”s season is done losing to somers then pac two average teams. – say good night lp
Moms need to get off the blog. Please
@pelhamfan
The rye assistant coach has tweeted after every game for years
@blueline- I know greeley is better than SNS because they beat them 11-3, also as for LP having low players is no excuse, that’s who they are as a team they can’t go far like this
What was the final on JJ vs Yorktown?
JJ 7 Ytown 5
Jj and yorktown is a big surprise, JJ giving up 5 goals not good for them
Anon: I like your handle, “Anon.” It must be a clever reference to the Nurse character in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Not that I need to tell you, but I appreciate your allusions to Act 2 Scene 2. You must be wise beyond your years. If you are so erudite, I’m surprised you don’t know more about MEDEBO. As a charter member of MEDEBO, and someone involved in the lobbying group, I would suggest you desist your harassment of hockey moms contributing to the dialogue on this blog. Thanks.
Yorktown scores 5 on JJ and 7 versus Greeley.
Pelham Fan: You seem like a knowledgeable hockey fan and a pretty nice guy. As a result, the mom in me really wants to help you with your grammar, spelling and syntax (their not there; yourself not your self; then not than), but that would be just be petty and there’s no room for that on a fun hockey blog. Additionally, the seasoned parent in me wants to help you with your interpersonal skills, specifically those dealing with your latent insecurities, so you can have more affable interactions with your peers, but I believe that would be overstepping my boundaries. So I’ll ask a more hockey related question: Why does it matter if a coach tweets the results of their games? Doesn’t that help disseminate information and keep fans informed? Again, excuse me if I’m off base here, I just don’t see a problem with coaches tweeting. Thanks and see you on Friday at the big game!
JJ let up 5 goals, but a goalie can’t stay perfect the entire season, yorktown played well give them credit. Lanza has shined all season, kid deserves to have an off night once in a while. JJ still remains undefeated, should be interesting to see when they receive their first loss.
I know you said give Yorktown credit, but are you really saying that the JJ goalie played poorly? Way to throw your goalie under the bus. He had no chance on most of the goals against and made a few really nice saves to keep it 7-5. Remember this game was tied 5-5 with about 7 minutes to play.
@ETB Mom –
“but that would be just be petty and there’s no room for that on a fun hockey blog”
Surprisingly, there is plenty of room for it on this blog
I have to agree, that nobody takes more abuse than Suffern, running a close second is Pelham and Mamaroneck and even New Rochelle. My take on it is simple, other teams that have not been as successful get tired of hearing about other teams success, its human nature. Some teams have regular bloggers or posters, who basically “cover ” them on this blog, and thats the way it is. The only issue I have is that many of the new “cycle” of bloggers, who maybe think their team has a shot this year but has not done much in the past, have a definate lack of respect for what the successful programs have done for years. Take Suffern as an example, and Pelham to a lesser extent, These teams have extraordinary seasons every year, Suffern has done it for 20 years? Mamaroneck Rye, these four have basically been the best teams overall. One more point, just because a person posts as “Pelham Fan, or Etb fan etc) does not mean thats where they are from. I am sure posters post to stir things on here, and yes, its part of it, under other handles. and just my opinion so far, in division 1 I have Suffern as far and away the top guys, followed by Mamaroneck New Rochelle White Plains and an improving pac. In division 2 I have Rye, a playing possum Pelham, and a strong John Jay team up at the top, followed closely by Scarsdale, and then Horace G. My opinion is that division 2 will be so entertaining with the seeding that it will be anyones shot to win
Anyone have some score update on Rye/Queensbury game?
Started at 11-thxFirst off, I think it’s great that any coach tweets their scores… especially when they are upstate and people want to know what happened. Where is the crime in that? Pelhamfan, I doubt Coach Witz has a twitter account… it is kind of a generational thing. I don’t get the whole twitter thing to tell you the truth. But younger people get alot of their info out based on tweets and text messages.
Would it be a big difference if the coach posted on the blog instead of twitter? Or are you just a pelham fan that does not want to hear about Rye success?
While Rye did not beat a great team… they did beat them soundly 6-0, so the score is more telling than the outcome. So yeah, it is a nice win, and sounds like a dominant one.
I have no clue who the heck Mamaroneck beat, sounds like a CT version of ComboTown. Glad they won, but I’d like to see a victory over Rome Free before I start feeling really good.
As for LP only having 10 guys on the team… that is ridiculous. Sounds like they gotta add another school to that team or just fold the program. They were 2 players from forfeiting the game.
@ETB mom, relax, Grammarati has all things Grammar covered.
JJ giving up 5 to Yorktown is VERY telling. What it tells is that JJ is NOT a serious contender for the section 1 championship. No way Rye or Pelham give up more than 1 vs. Yorktown… even on their worst day.
Is Suffern practicing all week? Seems like every year they keep Christmas break free of games. Do kids go away? Why did Mamaroneck stop conducting their own Holiday Tournament? It used to be the only games to go to during the break.
ETB Mom is my new favorite blogger.
You go girl!
I agree with rocket fuel. I am an upstate coach. I don’t have a twitter account, but I do post scores and an occasional thought on this blog. I also use the blog as a resource to find out what is going on with section 1 hockey. Warming up to ETB mom as well.
ETB Mom and Grammarati should date unless of course they are already married
. That would be some intellectual conversation! Did I spell “intellectual” right Grammarati?
@RF….Suffern with a light schedule this week. Probably a good idea considering many of their players also play full season travel (Juniors, etc…). Gives them a chance to re-charge the batteries.
Happy New Year!
Sn’L – You nailed it!
Whoa…where do I start. Tweeting, blogging, smoke signals, sign language all good. Most good coaches do many things well and being organized and being good communicators top the list. I love N-W’s perspective as a coach, he communicates many of the considerations a coach must think about and deal with.
ETB Mom- HS Hockey in these parts is kind of like segregation/caste system. Question the obvious bias of the programs you cited and you get a history lesson (complete with self serving rationales on why the caste system is justified). Trust me, I’ve tried and the blow back is strong. It appears you have your witz about you and can handle yourself. I just usually throw high heat directly at their heads along with the splintered bat.
Rocket Fuel you ignorant slut (obvious homage to SNL and I’m tired of calling you a Strutting Cock) your bizarre logic of selectively comparing game results as having any bearing on other teams results is just wrong. Every game exists onto itself. There are many reasons a team gives up 5+ goals in one game and wins;and one in another and loses. Each contest is unique and different and while you can project which team you think will win from their overall record, projecting what other teams goal yield is wrong and to use it to say that that is the reason that team can’t win is just stupid. How do you know how many goals Pelham or Rye will give up to Yorktown, they might give up only one like you said but not score any. Mamo has given up 6 goals,5 goals, 4 goals do we automatically assume that the teams that scored those numbers have never given up the same to weaker teams and won?
Rocket Fuel
I just happen to have answers to some of your questions … Ed Witz has a Twitter account. He uses it to monitor his tweet happy team. ... John Jay is a serious contender. People have to realize that Yorktown has a couple of kids who can finish now that were not on the ice when the season began. Indians are undefeated and finally have some tests coming up. They should get Frazier Bostwick back from an injury in the coming days. ... Suffern did take a break, and got back on the ice yesterday to begin prepping for Monroe-Woodbury.
RF- Bethel\Brookfield\Danbury is a pretty good team, they went to the State semi’s last year and I believe the year before they went to the Ct State Finals in Div 2/3???
They are currently tied with Corcoran 1 – 1 in the thrid, Corcoran beat West Genny this year so Mamaroneck may be in a good situation to at least skate with RFA today.
RFA beat Corcoran last night in OT…FYI
Fingers crossed.
Anyone know how N-Rock is doing upstate, it would be a nice bonus if they can win the tournament today?
The past three games are Yorktown’s first this year with all of their players. They are 2-1 in those games. I’m also pretty sure Bostwick played last night, but could be wrong.
If you want Smart Hockey to start ranting in his shared apartment at the YMCA, all you gotta do is say JJ is not a contender. And they are not. Yes, scores are not always indicative of how a game was played… but interestingly the better teams never let up more than one to the weak sisters of the league. John Jay will not win the section mark my words. The BIA teams never play anyone tough, they play each other 2 or 3 times each, hardly ever leave the BIA and when playoff time comes… they are not prepared.
THe big news is Ed Witz has a twitter account. Does Chap? Schelling?
Can anyone explain the purpose of twitter that is better than just posting on the blog, or sending emails? Or even a text message?
BTW usually when a team wins 6-0, it can be assumed it was a dominant game by the victor. When it is 7-5, you can also assume that the teams are not far apart… or one teams goaltending is weak. JJ has a very good goalie, so thats not the case.
ANYONE HAVE A ROME MAMARONECK SCORE?
Rocket Fuel have you ever played hockey? Coached it? Scouted or Evaluated for tryouts?
I thought so… you are talking out of your rectum.
What gets me going is the way you start sh@t you know nothing about just to start stuff. You say nothing, you know nothing and your arguments are not well thought out. I believe JJ is a good team, I would of made the same comments if you would of substituted Pelham or Suffern for JJ in your observations. You cannot make a judgement about a teams future results by projecting results on games that have not happened. I am a fan of HOCKEY, not one particular team. I am a fan of LOGIC and a RATIONALE argument.
BTW- In the Y we call then Cooperative Living Residence and I share mine with 2 Pole Dancers named Amber and Bambi. You would not believe what I wake up to in the morning!!!
Gramaratti, where are you!?
Knock…Knock
Is Smart Hockey talking about my rect**? Seriously? What is wrong with him!!!!
No doubt Amber and Bambi both have large adams apples and jobs with an excavating company.
Bottom line is this. John Jay will NOT win the section. I feel bad that your son has to see you blogging like a mental case, and screaming in to your pillow. But at least he sees why mommy left you for the assistant manager at the Dollar General store.
BTW, since you are a fan of logic and rationale you certainly came to the right place. The fact that you came here for those things only shows that you an idiot. If you were truly high brow like you imply… you would not be here.
You are simply the creepiest guy I have ever encountered on this blog. By far. No sense of humor. But you know and coached some of these brewster kids, so you know. Lets see at the end of the season who knows more. If JJ wins the section I will apologize publicly to you. If not, you apologize and admit you know nothing. You’re just a knee jerk tool, who uses terminology that is just creepy.
@Smart Hockey
“I thought so… you are talking out of your rectum.” = Epic Fail
“I thought so… you are talking out of your balloon knot.” = Success
(My version is more kid friendly, this is a Family Blog)
I think we need some type of special point / counerpoint hockey chat between SH and Rocket. With SH and his “Big Bang Theory” approach to his prose and Rocket with his “spittle on the keyboard” like intensity, this is a no brainer. Throw in Grammarati as special guest moderator and you have “must view” blogging….
rjmkrm, or whatever your name is.
First…. buy a vowel already.
I was thinking about you the other day…I took a cab and the name on the driver’s permit was Rjmkrm.
How about some color on the Mamaroneck trip.
How was the energy…the coaching strategy…the continental breakfast?
How good was the competition?
Sounds like there was some line switching, at least based on scoring stats in the Bethel game.
If you are gonna promote a Smart Hockey v Rocket Fuel blog-match…I want to see ETB mom v HOCKEY MOM on the undercard
So that’s what those bumps are on the girls throats are…
Seriously, I really don’t go sexual with my stuff. Maybe I steal a bit of Louis Black, channel the anger of Don Rickles possibly even attempt a bit of Jon Stewart absurd to demonstrate the ironic examples of some of the more bizarre posts but you went full bore child molester here.
You sir need help. Was it calling you a Stutting Cock that put you over?
On the next episode of To Catch a Predator….
Hansen: Hello (Staring at smart hockey who is eating cookies on the dining room table).... oh don’t run, I just want to know what you are doing here?
Smart Hockey: uh uh uh, I just came here to have some cookies that were left on the table.
Hansen: Ohhhh… we have transcripts that you were blogging with a Rocket Fuel who is a plant for the FBI…. it says here that you called him your “strutting c***”
Smart Hockey: oh yeah, I just came here to warn him that there are some unsavory characters out there blogging and he/she should not give out his address because they might come over to “meet” him.
Hansen: It also says here that you wanted to see him talk out of his “r*****”.
Smart Hockey: ohhhh,,, hahaha, I was only joking. Nobody can do that… I don’t think. Ummm, I gotta go… (smart hockey makes a run for the door and runs like a little girl out to the front lawn where he is tackled by Grammarati and Ned Bigby close by taking pics)
Hansen: Hope you enjoyed those cookies Smart Hockey… I don’t think they have them at Rikers.
Smart Hockey: What did I do? What did I do? I just came here to warn him of unsavory characters on the blog… seriously…. Mommmmmmm help. ETB MOM!!!!! ANY MOM!!!!! I was lured in by the smell of freshly baked toll house cookies I swear. Mike!!! Sweet N Low!!! Cliff Clavin call cliffy, he knows I was joking. I’m like the funny guy at work… oh I am such a card… always cracking up the staff. Postman!!!! Actually don’t call postman, he’ll hit me. Rjmkrm told me to come here!!! I was framed. TA-Da, Slacrosse c’mon tell them I was goofing!!! N-W get down here from Niagara Falls and bail me out!!!!! I’m not a creep, I’m a human being!!!!
Grammarati-
I’m disappointed in you. My biggest pet peeve spelling-wise on here is when someone uses “could of,” “would of,” or “should of” instead of “could have,” “would have,” or “should have.” Smart Hockey did it twice in that post, but you just focused on his rectum.
tsk tsk tsk
Now that was funny!
Sorry Cliff!
The “Rectum” part, stuck out for me. (Insert hemorrhoid joke)
@Chris Hansen – Still laughing!
Exactly Cliff!! Thats why I was wondering where Grammarati was after that SH post above!
And I was sitting here thinking the rest of you people need more activities in your life to fill the hours in your day.
Nedley – (in my best Ned Bigby third peron) rjmkrm does not speak of coaching strategy. He is much more adept at evaluating the postgame fare at the local watering hole he chooses to frequent. Which was very good BTW!
After getting a good look at some hard hitting Section 3 action two things come immediately to mind. Section 1 referees rock, and we are lucky to have them. Head contact penalites are optional and may only be called if there is less than a foot of snow on the ground….
Hands down, Mike’s first guests of the year on a “Lohud Live” broadcast should be Rocket Fuel and Smart Hockey. No question.
The blog has been well worth the price of admission this morning. Good stuff!
Love that upstate people read this blog.
Dougherty, you know Bigby is not one to blow smoke…but I guess you do an okay job covering sports once in a while.
Where did it all go wrong for you?
Who is the influential person in your life that told you a career in print journalism would be a good move? Your industry is dying… get out while you can!!!
Ned Bigby has to bounce.
(Ned Bigby likes saying “bounce” now)
“Bounce” is so 1994.
scores from 1 game can practically mean nothing. Last year Pelham was beating Suffern 1-0 up until 7 seconds left in the game to tie it up, it took Suffern’s top arsenal all out at once with a pulled goalie to tie the game against Pelham. BUT Suffern won states while obviously Pelham did not…. Last year Pelham lost to a bunch a D1 schools of which Suffern was the champs, yet they were able to nearly beat the best D1 team in the state last year…. Ed Witz knows what he is doing as well as Rob Schelling, they are both very smart men….
