If there’s going to be weather, it might as well come on a slow day for hockey. We are going to see a lot of scrambling if the snow and ice interfere too much in the next couple of weeks because there just isn’t much ice time with Playland off line.
There’s not much news from the last couple of days. I did hear that John Orlando sent holiday greetings to all of the Section 1 coaches … along with his wish for the New Year that none of them speak to the media about the quality of the on ice officials. We’ve got a number of teams getting ready for trips upstate over the weekend. And there was no player of the week because of Christmas, but I’ve asked for nominations today and I’ll post that later if there’s any response.
I’m off to play video games and build Legos and race Hot Wheels and eat cookies. Enjoy the day.

I’d like an opportunity to say a few things to the people who follow this blog. Hopefully, set the record straight. This morning after our White Plains practice, a few players and I were discussing the Mamaroneck game we lost last Friday. The players told me there was a bit of discussion on this blog about my comments in the Journal News following the game. I say this, because had I been aware of the discussion, I would have addressed it sooner.
First, let me apologize for my comment about the referees’ call. I wasn’t “calling them out”. I simply answered a reporter’s question. She asked me what I thought of a particular call…and I answered the question saying “it was the worst call I’ve ever seen”. I apologize for saying it. The referees in our section do a tremendous job. Do I agree with everything they call? Of course not, but I believe they are very reliable, professional, and unbiased.
Second, and let me make this extremely clear…I have NEVER and will NEVER blame the referees for a loss. Many people commented that I did this. I only answered a question about a call. The people responsible for the loss were the Mamaroneck Tigers (who played a great game and deserved the win) and myself. Anytime White Plains loses, the fault lies with me. For whatever reason, we didn’t play our best vs Mamaroneck, and that is totally on me.
So, once again, I apologize for my unprofessional answer to a reporter’s question. Congrats to Coach Chap and his team on the great game they played, and most certainly deserved to win. Also know, that at NO TIME did I think the referees were to blame for the loss. As I said, the blame falls on my shoulders.
Thank you for your time. Happy Holidays to all.
WP Coach, so grateful my son Nick followed your qualities when it came Hockey not mine. So grateful to you your help coaching and teaching during the house league years in Brewster, games that really meant nothing statistically, But as my son grew up in that league he was so lucky to have you as his coach. You are a gentleman and a great coach. What you do with that White Plains team is great. You and your team have seemed to find a way to somehow beat the Mighty Suffern team on certain nights, hats off to you coach, wishing you and your team success in the future,
Thanks for Memories,
best wishes to your family.

I dont want to speak for Commisioner Orlando, but I don’t think he cared about talking about matters to media…...He was informing us about a violation rule specifically about bad mouthing officials to the media. One of those 14-B section A fine print rules that prohibits coaches from this sort of action and violates code of ethics and other things…..Im ad libbing, but thats the jist I got from it. Apparently its one of those big deal rules, that some of us arent aware of. But, I dont think it was any sort of media boycott, it was more to protect us from getting into trouble. I also agree with WP Coach, as I coach 3 sports a year. Hockey officials are the best, probably because of the skating that is involved, they have some experience in the sport. Because the other sports I coach are on land, lol, you literally have officials that are stepping onto that type of the field for the first time, and they flat out dont know some rules. So while I have had my share of my players sitting unsportsmanlike calls on my behalf, the hockey officials are the best officials in section 1.
Don’t worry coach. Chappy is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest offender of officials in Section 1 and gets away with it year after year after year. You had one slip of the tongue and those of us who know you, adore you so don’t let it bother you. IT WAS A BAD CALL so admit it freely.
As far as the refs in section 1, they do a good job but most of the time they get caught up in the action and see things they didn’t see. But….that’s the way it goes.
hang in sir.
So Chappylover what made it a bad call?
Was it that the player that was hit never touched the puck?
Or was it that the White Plains player got caught?
Boone Jenner was finishing his check against Sweeden. He was given a Major and a game plus a 3 game suspension. No Canadien coach said a word.
At least the coach said he was sorry for his response, but here you are complaing how bad the call was. What are your qualifications to talk about a referee?
That type of call (puck right under the guy – but he never actually touched it) was not called all night. Also the kid DID take a swipe at it but missed it. The fat, slow guy had decided to become the star of the game and made that call with 4 minutes left and effectively ended the game…WP Coach took the high road…but it was a lousy call by an out of shape, slow ref. He had really bad third period. It would really help if he got in shape
ALSO – for the record Jenner is 6”1’ 195 and was clearly trying to hurt the swedish play while #16 on WP is 5”2’ 110 freshman coming back from a concussion and simply trying to get the puck in a tight game – your reference is ridiculous!!!
FINALLY – let’s not forget MAMO was the better team and deserved the win
i think really was right on even you said he missed the puck. not a bad call for the fat guy. You sound like a jerk
The ex PAC coach was the number one abuser of officials. No one came close, i miss his antics.
