In case anybody is looking for something to do on Sunday, the state championship game between Long Island powerhouse St. Anthony’s and upstate challenger St. Francis will be played at Nassau Coliseum after the Islanders and Devils get done. (Insert you favorite ice cut punchline here). You can watch both games for $20, or pay $34 and get a buffet in between games at Doolin’s Pub.
The Devils and Islanders start at 3 p.m. The high school game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

the 10 years before this year, the buffalo chshl and nyc chshl have done this…buffalo’s has won all 10
st.joseph collegiate 7 times, canisius 2 times, and bishop timon-st.jude the first time (2002)
st.anthony has gone to this game the past two years, losing both games by a goal (last year to st.joe, the year before to canisius)
this year should be a goody
anyone know anything about st.francis? maxpreps’ website is all screwed up…it thinks half of this st.francis’ schedule is the st.francis in queens (nyc chshl B division team)
st. francis has 5 teams
believe st.ant’s is playing the B (varsity) team

st. francis’ A (prep) team is the school’s top team..
Onside and CHSHL Upstate they still subscibe to hard hitting catholic hockey so it clearly should be a good game.
The team that can do that and stay out of the box may win.
In my opinion they will have a crew of CHSHL refs from down here so they are going to have whistleitis. Under that circumstance they will kill the flow of the game like every other CHSHL game I have seen down here. With that said I think St. Francis may have trouble with the over abundance of Reffereeing. This could be St. A’s year….
love it always the refs fault
Doesn’t St. Francis play in the Public School league too, but are ineligible for NYS playoffs?
Blue Line
You must allow for variances on how games are called and thusly played.
Some of the games I have seen in CHSHL down here are called in a very controlled manner.
Maybe that is how the league prefers to call the games and that would be their decision.
However it may not compare to how hockey is played in other area’s upstate or closer to area’s where High Level Travel takes place as the norm.
Frankly the CHSHL is like Hockey Lite even compared to how Section 1 hockey is called and thus played.
If you have a complex its because you are a ref who is influenced by those writing your check vs you loyalty to how the game should be played. The CHSHL should be ashamed in some respects for turning the game into two hand touch hockey.
Yes…St Francis plays in the Section 6, Buffalo, Small Schools league.

If you navigate this site you can see game stories on some of their playoffs.
al, where do st.joe’s and canisius play
If you navigate that site you will see St joes and canisus in section 6 large school leagues. You can also see all game results if you navigate the left side menu.
High level travel as you call it comes under USA hockey who have the strictest rules of all the leagues. I think it is funny how posters like you and rocket fuel complain about the refs but I dont see you out on the ice.
blue line I had my day on ice at a time when the game was much different.
I also hold a coaching cert that never expires…
And having been upstate at tourneys downstate for years behind the bench I can tell you that the CHSHL has tweaked the refs so much that the game is sometimes not Recognizable. They fill the box for checking clean.
I am also aware the USA Hockey is an insurance sales organization and there are tons of fat cats sitting on their buts in Colorado Springs sucking the dollars without adding anything.
If it continues you will see taking guys off the puck with the body outlawed from the game.
The refs in the CHSHL ruin the flow of the games they call legal hits penaltys. When the St. Francis team gets down here it will throw off their game as that is not how its played upstate.
This is not about referees more about the CHSHL changing the game down here and USA Hockey adjusting the game for the sake of their insurance risks.
st.ant’s could be one of the hardest hitting, “not high school” style teams i’ve seen in a while…the hitting and chippiness is like watching an ohl playoff game when they turn it on…and if thats how st.francis, caniusius, st.joe collegiate play…it’ll be a treat to watch this at nassau..
Go on myhockeyrankings.com it shows the schedule and results for all Travel,Juniors, Prep, and High school teams in the country…St francis upset favorite canisius to get to this game….And btw this game will be totally different from any other chshl or section 1 game for that matter as the speed and especially the physicality will be on a different level if the refs let the game flow that is…P.s st ants lost there leading goal scorer who tore his ACL and miniscus…definately a huge loss for a st ants team looking to bring the state title downstate for the first time…
blueliner, is it wallace? easily best player in chshl this year..
Was Tyler Hall. Injured his knee in the Portledge game.
I think this is the best line I have ever read!

I must say removing a guy from the puck and trying to put him into the 3rd row are 2 different types of checking.
Here is where we may differ.
I believe if you can put someone in the 3rd row, without leaving your feet, within the required number of steps, on an opposing player with Puck Possesion you are my hero especially if he is in the 3rd row after that wrecking he just took.
CHSHL refs hears a loud noise and raises their arm and blows. Loud noise must be a penalty.
Mean time the box is full and all of a sudden the game is choppy.
Now if its a high hit to the head or behing, your left your feet or took a run at the guy I am for locking him in the box. Its the clean stuff thats called stupid do to noise or fear someone may be harmed. Its all part of what is the PC world. Lets give trophy’s to everyone and not harm or push anyone around as it could hurt someone or hurt their feelings.
Well by my comment 3rd row I was talking about the head shots and charging. I think hitting is a great part of the game and we should let the squirts start checking in open ice and then at pee wee start board checking. I think this would teach players how to check correctly. In my opinion anyway. Sadly USA hockey does not agree and has removed checking from pee wee.
if your chshl refs call the game by sound then that is just sad. How can you call what you dont see?
