Please stop the nonsense, it’s overshadowing the work Suffern and ETB put into this season and ruining the effort that goes into making the blog a spotlight for a game that’s sometimes overlooked. I have deleted some 30 comments that violated our terms of service. I have thrown a couple people off, permanently.
We need some perspective.
Scarsdale and Pelham went back and forth, playing what had to have been the game of the year. Suffern and ETB were relatively close until Willie Sanchez lifted one in with 33 seconds to go in the second period. Yes, a couple of Suffern kids were talking on the ice. Yes, a couple of ETB kids lost their minds. Don’t trivialize what all the kids who played the right way accomplished.
Let the coaches and parents and school officials handle the rest behind closed doors.
The garbage that I had to delete only give the powers that be more reason to pick on hockey. So let’s end it now. Talk about the kids who gave us plenty of good memories to discuss.

Well said Mike. It’s a new day on the blog and for that we can be thankful. Offsides – I think someone said that MSG Varsity was airing the DI game tonight at 7:30pm and the DII game tomorrow night at 7:30pm. Can someone confirm this info?
During the Pelham game I believe they announced it would be aired on Wednesday at 7:30 PM and I believe MSG varsity’s programming reflects that as well.
thanks CHSHL
St. Anthony’s will play St. Francis, which defeated Canisius 4-1 on Sunday night for its first Federation title since 1999, in the New York State CHSAA A Division hockey championship game next Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, L.I
St Ant’s will have the best shot to take home the 1st downstate title this year.
We need to put out an all points bulletin for Fan of the game. I hope hes not one of those who feels that its not important anymore because his team is out? He was probably leading the way with MPBAB (most posts by a blogger) going into the Rye Scarsdale game. Hope hes ok.
Congrats Suffern and Pelham! Good luck to both moving forward!
I think it’s time to be Section 1 fans and cheer for Suffern and Pelham!
I agree with you Mike to a point. While many of those posts were way out of bounds with curses and threats (not sure why 5 hole is still allowed on when he thinly veils his threats), however, I don’t think we should turn a blind eye to what happened. In all the years of watching section championships for the last 15 years or so, I have never seen a worse display of sportsmanship on the etb side.
How this kid was not DQed is beyond me.
I don’t know if MSG varsity will edit some or all of it, but maybe it won’t come off as bad on TV as it did live.
Also, will West Point think twice now about having future championship games if they have to deal with disrespectful kids breaking things (allegedly). Maybe we should talk about it, so it never happens agian.
The best part about West Point is this. You don’t have to get there at least an hour early to make sure you are not shut out of the rink (as what used to happen at Hommocks, and at SOR). Parents, and grandparents can sit and watch a full game, most rinks everyone is standing on cold metal bleachers with no backs, this can be brutal for most people. No problem parking. Beautiful rink, nicer than any rink section one has to offer. Decent food court, clean bathrooms, ample parking (ever try to park at Ice Hutch for a big game?). It would be a shame if this one event messes that up, but I would not blame them if it did.
NJD makes a good point.
This blog is EXACTLY the type of forum for a discussion about player behavior.
It is never good to call out players by name (or number) when discussing a negative on the blog, but there could be repercussions from yesterday.
Saying “this player has a lot of heart and that’s why such and such happened” is not acceptable. Everyone has a lot of heart.
The key thing is to take steps to cut out the shenanigans, and make sure younger players know it is not cool. If they see their “hero” acting a certain way, and there is no punishment, they will assume it is okay.
Nedley – for once you and I are on the same page!! Bad behavior begets bad behavior. If these “shenanigians” are not addressed in the proper manner (without calling kids out by name and number – this is extremely poor form for adults and those pretending to be adults), then this becomes assumed acceptable behavior!!
It would be good for all to learn if there was any supplemental disciplined issued to the ETB team or by ETB for poor sportsmanship.
The idea is try to use youth sports as a vehicle to help mold respectful and responsible young adults, not a bunch of whining, tantrum throwing juveniles
Here’s to all the kids playing for Suffern, ETB, Pelham and Scarsdale. They made for a great weekend of hockey. And it is all about the kids. Thanks for the great live coverage, loved it. As they say, “it’s the next best thing to being there”!
Agreed. This kid chose this behavior. Not because he has so Much heart. He was frustrated because he couldn’t believe that they were stonewalled, and couldn’t do as they please as they were able to do vs mamk. Newro. Etc.
It will be interesting to see if MSG varsity caught it all on tape. And if they’ll air it. I’m sure John Orlando was not happy to have to deal with this and to make arrangements for a locker door to be repaired.
If the door was in fact broken, they should make the kid work at west point until he makes enough to pay for it. Then make him stand in front of the entire west point hockey team (now THEY have heart) and apOlogize.
My mistake. He’s not a kid. 17-18 makes him a young man. Legal adult at 18.
Ned,
I don’t mind the discussion. I do mind the nonsense that was being posted. That was not an intelligent conversation even for hockey bloggers.
The Two Best Teams won AND we had a near miss a cinderella story from S’Dale (who will be back next year…unlike ETB)
S’Dale – pre-season favorite to be the best team in Section 1?
Scarsdale will probably not be the preseason favorite. They are losing Jurman. Have to admit they will probably make that up by just getting bigger and stronger but his loss has to hurt.
They have some young freshman on the team who did not play much. Roberts, Koh, Muller. They will have to step up and fill the spots of the seniors leaving and of Jurman.
Have to think it will be tough to stop Burns, Blakely, Nicholas and Shell one year from now. All depends on what they do in the offseason. Weights and hockey wise.
Can we get the state hockey bracket posted? The only bracket I can find is last years. Also if Suffern beats MW are the in the frozen four?
HS Hky – agree with the sentiment and with a change in topic. I am a Scarsdale parent, but I think Mike would agree that in the DII final, we were treated to probably the best game in Section I this year. As a team and program, we have nothing but respect for the Pelham program. Many of our kids learned to skate in Ed’s rink and he knows them well. Our kids have often played together on travel and tournament teams. I’m quite certain the Pelham families feel the same way, and their coach would be the first to agree. Pelham was not surprised by this game. We played a one goal game in preseason and were up 2-0 late in the second two weeks ago when we finally got our roster healthy and sorted out. Yesterday could have gone either way. Raiders typically play 3 solid D and yesterday had to find a way to fill about 35+ minutes usually played by the injured #13. Scarsdale had a goal called back for an off sides of about six inches. Both teams had a few near misses, including Scarsdale in the first 30 seconds of the game. It got physical at times, but from my seat (though I didn’t sit much), the pace and quality of the game was only exceeded by the phenomenal sportsmanship exhibited during and after the game. Familiar players congratulated each other. There were huge numbers of young kids/youth players in the stands. This was exactly the show you would want these young kids to see. This one was truly worth the price of admission. I sure wish the Raiders were moving on, but I wish the Pelicans all the best in Utica.
Ginger? Where are you Ginger??? have you been naughty??????
Could not agree more with another fan. After the game, many of the Scarsdale players were teary eyed. They had given it their all and had fallen short, but had the opportunities that could have allowed them to win. Coming so close was hard for them. But when you saw them come out, there were many Pelham players who came and shook their hands. There are kids who go all out trying to check and hurt each other during the game, but were nothing but gentlemen afterwards. Very complimentary. Many of the players went over to congratulate Witz. Lots of respect from both sides for one another.
This is why, as hockey parents, we endure the early hours of youth mite hockey, and all those drives to far rinks in travel and in HVHL. It is supposed to provide a positive learning experience for our kids. THe kids and the parents from both teams seemed to get it. Pelham will have a big rooting section while they are on their way to the states. And next year, we will try to knock off the champions.
Totally agree with another fan and Scarsdale parent. After the game it was nice to see the sportsmanship between the two teams, with Pelham coaches going over to the Scarsdale kids and visa versa. Lot of respect and great for the high school game
Sad day from a involved with this hockey blog the way that some people acted. Unless you play, coach, or a part of the ETB family you have little or nothing to add to who these players are or their character.did anyone mention the players who take 5 minute shifts for their team? How about 7 years dedicated to a program from modified to varsity?one moment in time can never encapsulate all that a player is on either side of the ice. Both sides could have done things differently. Great game and great season for both teams.
O’Irish-
The bracket is posted on section1hockey.com. has been all year. Just go to the playoff brackets (you can get there via the standings page) and the state tourny brackets are up there right below the section tourney brackets. They also include the scores of the section championship games from around the state and the times of all the games up in Utica.
