Scarsdale’s Ian Klein celebrates with James Nicholas following Nicholas’s third goal on the night against New Rochelle at The Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon Jan. 31, 2012. Scarsdale’s won 6-4.
not good news for nr who probably will lose to etb they will be moved back in the standings/seeding
hockey.
scarsdale is gonna get on a roll with these big wins
sec1hockey
it seems every frosh has had a big start to their season for scarsdale
hockey.
Nicholas has like 10 or 11 points in only 2 1/2 games that he played fully
well
well he’s like ranked in the top 25 97’s by usa hockey playing against section one competition, what do you expect?
Jezzy
I am sure Mahopac is happy with the New Rochelle lose, this lose should move Mahopac into the #3 seed provided they win out. That will put them on a path against Suffern provided they hold up on their end. It is getting interesting, @5Hole maybe Suffern vs. Mahopac at West Point is going to happen!
Raider rooter
Big win for Scarsdale coming back and beating newro. Two in a row and the whole team is together. Great young leadership but Klein moving to D was the key for this team as it allowed burns and blakely to rest. Plus Nicholas plays at a divergent speed. .
Ray-Ders
incredibly good-looking kids
slapper
this should get scarsdale back on track
Raider rooter
Which kids are good looking.?
Face-off
I was at the Scarsdale game today. Raiders look good. They compete with a very short bench though. They have exciting talent. There is not a faster pair of kids on the ice than Nicholas and jurmain together. Those kids will score some goals on you.
Hockeylover
How was new ro. Did they play well?
they are back
Scarsdale bloggers are back, I guess we didnt hear from them during the losing streak so now that they knocked off a power house the bloggers return
........
They did not. A lot of opportunities to score and mised the net a lot.
fan of hockey
@well. Why would you post a statement like what would you expect? The kid had a good game, and he is a good player who is highly ranked. That is not his fault. There are a lot of highly ranked players in section 1 doing well. Wegworth is this years example. Santini did it last year and ended up in Michigan this year. There are a bunch of others with commitments to BC, UNH and other top schools. Stop selling section 1 so short. There are lots of decent players. To play well, as a freshman, is something that should be commended, not discarded like what did you expect. Kenny McLean was on the ice at the Scarsdale New RO game yesterday. That kid can play. He is dangerous when he gets the puck, and is very high energy. Also, despite his smaller size, he hits anything that moves.
Scarsdale has Nicholas, Jurmain, Schell, Blakely x 2, and Burns that are top players. Then there is Ko who has not yet recovered fully and gotten into the flow. This team has a good youth program that has grown alot in the past few years. They are going to be tough for sure in the coming years if they stay together. They cannot compete with the big teams of Pelham and Rye yet as they are young, but they can be dangerous.

@ they are back. Hey, we root for our team whether we win or lose. But it is exciting to see them win and so we post. Is that so bad? To say New Ro didn’t play well and that they missed many opportunities does not portray the game well. Scarsdale outshot them by a large margin, and the newro goalie kept them in the game. Yes, new ro had their chances, but not as many as the raiders. It was a great, exciting game though.
By the way, the bloggers that I read are not being arrogant or anything so I don’t think you can be mad at them for posting. They are just pumped about their team

I wrote about Nicholas yeaterday…BEFORE the hat trick. He is an amazing talent. If you are involved in travel hky for 96’s, 97’s, or 98’s over the past five years you are not surprised by his “instant success” at the HS level. He was injured for most of the season to this point. BTW – the other kid on his level is Trevor Turnbull a 97 Freshmen at FP who is committed to his Atlantic League team and does not play for FP at all…not really sure why.
Meanwhile, there are a couple of dozen other 97’s making an impact in Westchester / Putnam this season – mostly Vipers AA and Brewster Express. I’m optimistic for a return to the higher level of HS hky that we had five years ago…what I see now is a complete lack of depth on many teams hence the volatility of results. We all complain about those who whine over a missing travel player…but it often makes a huge difference in a particular game
Jezzy
If you want to talk about freshman sensations, I suggest you look at Bradley Alexander from Mahopac who has 30 points already this year and he also plays Junior Hockey, he is a player to watch for the furture, I predict he will be dominateing the league over the next few years.
well
@ fanofhockey. section one hockey sucks. just go watch a game and then watch Nicholas’ 97 express team. Those 14-15 year olds would beat suffern pretty easily. Any good section one player goes to Ann Arbor, Prep School or does their high school for entertainment secondary to their Jr. team. Most kids that care about their grades go to prep school. Despite what Nicholas family might say now, I bet you whatever you want to bet he is not playing scarsdale as a Junior. If any of those other kids are any good they won’t be either.
well
is trevor turnbull tim turnbull’s kid?

How did Newro’s forwards two way game look?
fanotgame
Looks like none of the higher seeded teams will have any interest in seeing Scarsdale in the quarters.
Jezzy
@well – You are getting a little to excited about this 97 Brewster Express team, I have watched them play and I have watched them practice. They would not beat Suffern or any of the top D-I or D-II teams, they could pick off many of the weaker teams in both divisions. How can you even think for a minute that a 97 boy can really compete against a hard hitting young men who has hockey skills? Many of these players on the better high school teams play junior hockey and are very talented. The 97 team you talk about would loss 15-0 to Suffern and 12-3 to most of the other top D-I and D-II teams. Don’t overhype the 97 team, they are good, but please get real.
HS Hky Fan
jeezy…pls clarify – Bradley is a 97 and plays on a Junior Team???
gull watcher
I have watched the travel programs for a while and disagree with JEEZY. The gulls and the express would both give all of these teams a decent game. There is zero chance that they would lose 15 to 0, and they might even beat them once in a while . They have so many systems and plays that a HS team just cannot match. Yes, the better bigger travel players would be tough for them to handle, but they are so deep and play as a team. The 97 express came in third in the nationals a few years ago and are very well coached. They are huge too, with their D men weighing in at about 185, not bad for HS.
HOckey
clarktown s, new ro’s forward played their game, play half the ice, skate hard when you have the puck, and cry to the ref. Except for mclean, he was all over the ice
Jezzy
I never said Bradley was a 97, he is a 96 and he plays on a junior team, he is a big, strong player with great skills who has the potenial to dominate the league if he stays with D-I hockey. I have watched the Gulls and I have watched the Express team, neither of them would come close to a top D-1 or D-II team, unfortunately we can argue this point all day and we will never really know the true answer. You are entitled to your opinion and I am surely entitled to mine. These 97 players are very good, I have watched them, but I know the difference between a team of freshman and a team like Suffern who is stacked and loaded – it would not be a competitive game.
HS Hky Fan
Kenny M. is also on ‘97 Express – great talent, great kid *****
IMO – ‘97 Express & ‘97 Gulls could beat ANY team in Sec1 but would not beat Suffern more than 1 or 2 out of ten. THEY WOULD NEVER BEAT SUFFERN AT SPORTO WITH ROCKLAND REFS..lol
HSHockey
the 97 Express team would smoke everyone except suff, who they would beat 1/2 the time. And the best player on the team is a ‘98. Chad Krys- Remember the name. He is consistently mentioned as a top 3 ‘98 in the country.
97 Express
HS Hockey you know…..been watching the 98 on the 97 team for years. Best player on the ice game in and game out, goes way beyond best player on the team.

players rankings
That always cracks me up. People throw out comments like “hes ranked 5th for 98s in the state” So…....who does these rankings? Who makes the rounds all around the country, sees every player in a specific age group play, and then tests their skills and then makes the list? thats funny. Just so USA hockey can keep people interested and USA hockey can stop other amateur groups from forming and taking the elite players they do that. The players mentioned are very very good. However, look at the map, we live in New York. There are easily other areas to consider with much better track records than our area. Ranking players is crazy, and its without any factual backup or evidence.
hockey.
I think they were referring to the U 14 USA camp where Nicholas finish top 20 in scoring and Chirs will be trying out for that this year.
hockey fan
@players rankings. These rankings are real. They are done by the usa hockey u14 camp where players throughout the country are selected. First by state, then region, and then compete against each other in camp. They are scouted. It is crazy. Kids talking to scouts from college and prepschool teams. In the later years there are pro scouts. So, players rankings, think before you talk. These ratings are pretty well thought out and youcan even get a scouting report on the kids. Santini was off the charts last year, and this is how he ended up in Michigan.
NewRo Scarsdale
Game was pretty evenly matched. It looked like both teams only played 2 lines. New Ro had more opportunities early in the game but then Scarsdale came on stronger toward the end of the game.
