Scoreboard – Jan. 26
I lost some brain cells along the way and can’t remember if we played high school games during midterm exams or stayed home to study back in the days we had to walk uphill both ways to school and never texted anyone to complain about the hardship.

You got the rye-fordham score wrong. 4-1
anyone know when the chaminade at fordham game is rescheduled for?
Harvey wasting its time with Avon froshes and sophs.
but still, what’s the point of even playing that game?
there are plenty of schools way closer to home
Mike, At least you had shoes…....
When making reference to Avon freshman and sophs, you have to consider that prep schools often require the boys to repeat a grade when they come in, on the theory that the boys will be more mature for their classroom and sports endeavors. So, Harvey could have been playing against a bunch of kids who, agewise, would be sophs and juniors in public HS. Like Pelham’s Section Champ team last year.
fanot…good, true point
the popular “i’m-in-high-school-and-am-going-to-transfer-after-sophomore-year-to-a-boarding-prep”...more often than not, your 3rd year (knowing you have a 4th and a PG on the way) is technically labeled your “sophomore” year again
that avon team last night were really froshes through juniors
No, really? Preps hold kids back a year? Next thing you’ll be telling me is that they recruit good hockey players or that they practice every day.
I know all this, that’s my point. Someone said yesterday it was a waste of time. It isn’t. Prep school teams are usually competitive.
There are probably 4 kids in the section who would crack the varsity roster at a founder’s league prep school right out of HS. Redgate and Scholer are two.
Why are you going at fotg for the post about prep? Maybe you know that but everyone does and thought it was fine. Carrying your post further really who on a high school blog cares weather or not a player in public hs can crack a prep line up? If thats important on this blog here are some facts I`d like to post.
fact 1 I think there are maybe a few basketball players in section one who can crack division 1 college rosters
fact 2 There may not be any current local college baseball players that can make the Kansas City Royals AA team this year
Just illustrating my point that yesterday’s comment that Harvey playing Avon C wouldn’t be a competitive game—not by fotg—was ill-thought out. Prep school players are better, older, practice more, etc.
as posted earlier, i think harvey-avon c actually should’ve been the cover story game for yesterday
and right after that have the next cover story be the Cricket match between Grenada and St Lucia in Grenada
Now I’m feeling bad for Mike. He covers two games yesterday which had representatives from the 3 local leagues (Section One, CHSHL and Fairchester) playing. Now someont thinks he should have started his day at Evarts!
Just a thought – since there are wood baseball leagues do you think Section 1 could go to a wood stick league $250/stick is getting expensive – with the monet saved we could pay for a trip upstate
Hey good point Ginger…If you ask me composite sticks are the cause of the NHL concussion epidemic.
Harder shots, result in more hardened protective gear to block and protect yourself from shots (shin guards, elbow and shoulder pads, chest and back protectors-
whoever wore these before-kevlar hockey pants!). The players fly around the rink invulnerable and immune to resulting collisions and impact.MLB banned aluminum bats for safety and competitive reasons, the NHL should’ve put some restriction on the composite sticks.
An “all wood stick league” is a great idea! Forget about paying for a trip upstate…I would be able to buy more groceries, maybe take my wife out to dinner
I like the way this Ginger guy breaks it down!
those sherwoods, christians and bending branches were awesome
Who is the new guy spouting off how Prep Schools like Avon are better at hockey than almost all public school teams that take kids who live in that small community around their high school. That is riveting and mind blowing…. I never knew prep schools would blow away most section one teams. I just love when these clowns get on here telling us the sky is blue.
Thanks For the info captain obvious.
I also hear that NHL teams would blow the doors off avon and all other prep school teams. Just thought I would let people in on that newsflash.
Under the helmet::
Player-Harry Potter
School- Hogwarts Prep
special moment-goal against Avon C
stick-Wood—of course
Mike When are you covering us? Our Rink is cold-but no foggy conditions we fly above that.
any predictions for rcds-ip tomorrow at 4:45 at rcds?
Heard an awful lot of chatter about how good Rcds is If so they should win by 4
wont happen
geez you guys—comment was critical of a previous comment that said Harvey playing Avon was “wow what a joke
what’s the point of even doing that if you’re harvey?”
This was a silly post for obvious reasons that have been beaten to death here. And that was the only point. Let’s bury the hatchet along with this whole topic.
Just start a separate blog for the Prep schools already! Keep this the “Section 1 Local Blog”
so when the section 1 teams play preps are bloggers allowed to comment or not?
should lohud even be reporting on prep? it is called the “lohud hockey blog”, no?
why don’t you start your own blog, be the moderator, and make all the rules
i woulk like to hear mike d’s thoughts on the prep school issue do they belong on this blog?
