Iona Prep could leapfrog Fordham Prep and move into fourth place with a win over Chaminade. Mamaroneck clinches no worse than a tie for the Conference II title with a win. BronxChester needs to string together some wins if it wants to be seen as a serious contender heading into sectionals.
There are a couple of stories I need to finish up today, so I’m staying in. Leave a score if you’re out watching. Don’t forget to run to the grocery store in a panic. You can never have enough bread and milk in an ice storm.
The schedule
Eastchester/Bronxville vs. RyeTown/Harrison, 6:45 p.m. at Playland
Mamaroneck vs. Scarsdale, 8:35 p.m. at the Ice Hutch
Iona Prep vs. Chaminade, 7 p.m. at Flushing

and they can do further damage with a W over st. mary’s on thursday
and even more friday night (iona-fordham 9pm ice hutch)
home stretch for ip
This is the IP season. They either rise to the occasion or slip back to a buch of nobody’s.
This team clearly has two Personalities when they show up they are a pretty decent hockey team, when they do not show up they make many of the same mistakes over and over.
This kind of thing is quite typical of young men in this age group. The good news is its all in their hands they do not have to do anything but play like the team they can easily be. Its not a stretch for them just go out get it done but the focus must be on coming out hard and every shift the effort must be there through all 3 periods.
Hopefully they are hearing this from their coaches. If not dust off the Lax Sticks.
I forgot which subject I posted to last so I came to the latest one. Thanks. In regards to the clearly fascinating Rye Pelham comparison I have some additional thoughts. Rye does have some players who can score and I agree they take some chances with a senior stud goalie backing them up. I am also looking at Pelhams X factor. It seems that since the season began they have been forcing a third and fourth line into the games. Even during the early season 1-6-1 start. Those valuable shifts for those players is paying off and those lines are getting time late in games now. That could be a huge factor for Pelham and good planning. Keeping your guns rested and not overworked is critical against teams in sectionals who panic and force down to two lines.
Rye is going to go as far as their goalie and a suffucating defense will carry them. I think Pelham has the more rounded team and better Coach.
farrell and st. ant’s have already clinched playoffs
iona can clinch with 3 wins this week (tonight, thursday and friday night against fordham)
fordham’s got problems…shaping up to be fordham or st. joe’s for the 4th spot…st. joe’s can clinch with a win (have 2 games left, against fordham and against st. ant’s)
Rye has been rolling 3 forward lines all season. And 5 or 6 D (depending on injuries). They will be fine come playoff time. Just need to get the PP revved up a bit. Maybe carry the puck into the zone rather than dump it in. Garnets are a disciplined team that usually draw many more penalties than they commit. It doesn’t have to be as lethal as last year’s PP, just a little better than it has been. I think they get there by crunch time.
I know I said this in a previous post after watching Rye play at the Ice Hutch.
It seemed again that #14 Rogers was the most effective skater all night for Rye against Mamaroneck.
Good two-way skills…drew a penalty or two…not afraid to get to the corner first. Program has him as a Junior. His line was consistently better all night than the others. I’m thinking he wears the “C” next season for sure.
Forgot about Rix taking two penalties the other night…someone pointed it out. Can’t be doing that in a big game.
E/B needs this game tonight.
I wonder if the coaches are even worried about playoff seedings or is it just the bloggers. I mean, you have to play the games that are on your schedule. You can’t fault a team that has a good record just because their schedule is “weak”.
If New Rochelle has a high seed, big deal…by the second round they will be playing a strong team and it will be decided on the ice.
In the end, you have to win the playoff games regardless of seeding. If it’s meant to be Rye vs Pelham and they play in the semis, then so be it…That game will be more exciting at Playland than at West Point anyway.
Ned I agree!
14 Rogers is like a Timex Watch ” Takes a Licking Keeps on Ticking”.
He plays much bigger than his size and he will score. He is not affraid to go into traffic with and without the puck. He is one of those players any coach would want on his team.
not south, sounds like pellow on ip
I know both Ryro an Nicky well. Similar type players. Not flashy. Just skate hard with great instincts.
In last season’s semi vs. SHI, while Katsuta and Mundinger were busy keeping the brothers Pesce in check (and vice versa), Rogers stepped up big time offensively by netting 2 goals in a 3-1 win. He picks his spots well.
Who kind of, sort of, thinks that Ned Bigby is Mike D’s blog alter-ego?
Rogers or Pellow! Any Coach would be happy to have a bench full of either.
Both kids work hard, are willing to give up the body, smart and play a two way game.
You could throw Reilly into the same catagory but he seems to get more cred as he is a huge part of Pelhams offense. These type players win battles, score goals and help win games and they do it every shift.
Am I, Mike and Ned, the hanson brothers of the blogosphere!
Bigby, You are spot on about a Rye-Pelham Semi-final. I think the game would be much more intense at playland than at Westpoint as more fans will show.
I like all three players too. Reilly goes to the head of that class based on his 16 goals and 12 assists vs. Rodgers 3 goals 10 assists playing a more difficult schedule and in a rigid defensive team system than the other 2. All three are fun to watch all hard working players.
The atmosphere for the earlier game at Playland was pretty special, and it was a non league regular season game. A big time playoff game in that rink (like the regional last year w/Qburry) is electric. Fan and Ned, you convinced me. I will stop whining about the seeding formula.
Mamo and scarsdale used to be a really fun rivalry. Nice to see them play again. Too bad scarsdale isn’t quite as good as they were back in the early 00’s (that looks funny)
iona will put together some good playoff watching against farrell or st. ant’s
while games 1 and 3 will most likely be south of the bridges, game 2 at either an ice hutch or murray’s will be jam-packed..
Reilly has developed a scoring touch this season. Big goal to tie Rye game late in third. 2 more to draw even vs. Mamo at the Hommocks. Think Rogers could do the same. Will be fun to see those two battle the ret of this season and next.
Am I….?
No…Ned Bigby is not the blog alter-ego of Mike D.
Mike D is a goody-two-shoes, catholic-school, vanilla, clean-cut, choir-boy.
hmmmm….I see your point.
Like Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde
Latka Gravas and Vic Ferrari
Steve Urkel and Stefan Urquelle
Love the Latka Gravas-Vic Ferrari reference, Ned, but based on previous posts (and your obvious fondness for shows aimed at pre-teens), I am surprised no mention of Miley Stewart & Hannah Montana.
more like Potsy and Ralph Malph
Clarkstown S…that’s not even funny…there are bloggers who read your post actually asking for the last 20 seconds of their lives back…
Malph and Potsy are not alter egos.
Now, if you had gone with Jeanie Nelson and her evil brunette (but just as hot) sister..
Mamaroneck Beats Rye! Mamaroneck Beats Rye! Prediction on tonight’s game game- Mamaroneck 12 Scarsdale 1 Hagan scores 4 Dean Chap 13 assists and 3 Goals. Chap will be section 1’s player of the year he is better than Prunesti, Better passer, Better Skater, and WAY SMARTER. You’ll see the real Chap show up tomorrow night against New Rochelle.
I’m p.o.’ed that I didn’t make Vic ferrari my blog name. Damn!!!
How about ziggy stardust and David Bowie?
Or the obvious superman and Clark Kent?
You know “dat DUDE” is a kid because he said chap was gonna have 13 assists but claimed mamaroneck itself to only have 12 goals….…

Scars 1 Mamo 0 mid 1st
final
iona 2, chaminade 0
Sca
ScaResale 2 mamaroneck 0. End of one. No that is not a typo.
This is not a typo, scarsdale 2 – mamo 0 after 1.
Shots 14-5 mamo.
Mamo scores 1 min in, 2-1 scarsdale.
Mamo 3 goals in 4 minutes, 3-2 mamo with 11 min left in 2nd
4-2 mano, shorthanded goal. 6 min left in 2nd.
Hockeylover-
I think you missed the joke.
Tigers 5 – raiders 2 after 2. Shots 33-10 tigers.
Clearly mamo did not get the memo at the start of the game, but a shortened bench and some chap motivation between periods, tigers come out and take control.
EB over RTH 6-3. EB rolled 4 lines for most of the game game, played solid and had a full squad for the first time in a while. Good win, although they have more to prove.
Mamk 8 Scarsdale 3 mid third. This mamk team is all over the map.
Final. Tigers 10 – Raiders 3. It was great for a period, then the roof / depth caved in.
It would be too much for the hockey gods to have ended the game after 1 period. It is the crux of this raider team, for 1 or 2 periods we can hang in there with the tip teams, but then it crashes quickly.
10-3 mamk over scaresdale. Weird game.
Well it used to be a good rivalry, maybe the kids still play like it is. How did MAMK pull ahead? short shifts? Luck? Goalie change? Ned Bigby wearing a Pinky Tuscadero outfit to the game?
I don’t know wheter to say how the hell Scarsdale went up 2-0 or how the hell did Mamaroneck go down 0-2. It’s pretty clear Scarsdale only have 2-3 guys who can play and boy were they out there a whole lot. To go up 2-0 them to lose 10-3 must be tuff.
Don’t read anything into it, Mamo is slow at starting, they were also losing 1-0 to SHI after the first, Suffern and WP smoked them from the start until they caught up to both. They like coming from behind, so did the 80 Olympic team. Look at the final score, not the first period.
just a fan..2 or 3 kids, a bit harsh… I think we have more quality players than that. Maybe no true studs like 17, 21 on Mamo, but some pretty solid players. If we only had 2-3 kids, I doubt it would have been 2-0 after 1 period. Give us some credit.
Ta-da. I think mamo was looking ahead a bit (newro tomorrow nite) and was intent on rolling 4 lines in first period. Scarsdale has 2 lines (a scoring line) and a checking line (underclassmen with some potential, but not real goal scorers at this stage). In addition, our goalie played extremely well in the first period, and we had two nice counterattacks and scored on both. We were outshot 14-5. Difference is we converted on the few opportunities we have.
What really hurt, not that it would have made all that much of a difference in that Mamo was going to win this game, was there was no ice cut between the first and second period. When you dont have alot of depth, those 10-12 minutes of rest are key. To start the second, it looked like mamo shortened the rotation. It was apparent that Scarsdale was gassed, and Mamo scored 4 quick qoals (i believe in 4 minutes) to take the lead. We have a tendency that when we let in one, it quickly becomes three. Good teams do this to us, and Mamo took advantage.
The second period ended 5-2, but Mamo was clearly in control. In the third, both teams played alot of their second/third/fourth lines, and to be fair, the tigers are a better deeper team. They just pulled away.
Like I said, for one, sometimes two periods, we can play with the upper teams. However, we just dont have the depth or size (our defense is solid, but not very big) to handle the better teams (like Mamo’s) size and depth.
Good news for the fans of the rivalry is we have 11 freshman coming in, and should get back a fairly talented junior and freshman who are not playing this season. Maybe the rivalry will get better in a year or two.
As a fan who has seen the Mamo-Scarsdale rivalry first hand over the years I can honestly say I hope the rivalry (in hockey) is coming back… It’s obviously still existent in all the other sports, from field hockey to baseball, but the competition in hockey has been lacking for the last 5 years or so.
Lohud, after thinking about it. I now understand the joke.
EB wins 6-3.
raiderfan – The future looks bright, keep the faith! Good to hear a big class coming in.
Anyone think they will have games tonight?
LookS like mamk will be scrambling for make up ice, as I doubt anyone will be playing hockey tonight, mamk vs new Rochelle at hmx. Also, another storm supposedly coming on Saturday night when they are supposed to play suffern at home. Mamk might have to make up 2 games next week. What a mess this weather is.

Iona Vs Fordham Friday @ Ice Hutch 8:45 PM
Iona Vs. Farrell Saturday@ Ice Hutch 10 PM
The snow may help Iona catch a breather. 3 games, against good teams, in three days is not easy.
also, next thursday, iona-st.ant’s, murray’s, 7pm
iona clinches (and allows st.ant’s and st.joe’s to clinch) with Ws this thursday and friday
Mamk New Ro cancelled
Mamo needs to wake up earlier in games – lack of intensity and inability to use their size and speed more is puzzling. Tigers have talent on the roster but make some bad decisions with puck and rarely scores a goal with a legitimate secondary assist (except for the all too often awarded mystery assists…)
Yes good to hear raiderfan
