It’s hard to watch kids struggle to make sense of what has to be the most difficult moment they will experience in athletics. The game is going to play over and over and over in the heads of every person that was up here watching the final 31 seconds. Most of the Suffern players still had their skates on 30 minutes after the bitter end.
Nobody wanted to go home.
“It was hands down the worst loss ever,” Suffern defenseman Kevin Norwin said.
And you’re going to hear about the officiating.
The Mounties got called for tripping with 13.2 seconds to go, setting up the goal that forced overtime. I’m sure the video will be replayed before anyone goes to bed tonight, because that’s not an easy place to blow a whistle. Maybe it was obvious, I didn’t see it from up top, but either way, some credit has to go to West Genesee for staying calm and finishing.
I’m heading for home, but will post a couple of leftovers tomorrow.
