chshl returns to action saturday
st. mary’s-fordha, 7pm, rye
doubleheader at ice hutch
farrell-chaminade at 7:45
followed by st. anthony-iona
should be good, as playoff picture is starting to come about…
fordham, farrell and st. ant’s are looking good to lock soon…looks like iona will have to battle it out with chaminade for the 4 spot
Any updates on Suffern V BC? Also how did Pelham do against Nisky?
wow it’s tough getting updates…Suff-Burke???? should be about 3rd period
Any updates?
Viola Rd, why don’t you just make predictions?
Your mamaroneck prediction was ridiculous. I had to check the time-stamp on the blog post three times.
Mamo 5-2 with an empty netter…it just made sense
Not knowing any score of the Suff game…I’m liking
Suff 4-1
I’m going Pelham 3 – Nisky 2.
Don’t really know anything about either team, I just like saying “Nisky”
Suffern 5, Burke 0
Niskayuna 4, Pelham 2
Suffern looked sharp tonight. With no disrespect meant whatsoever, Suffern is on a different level than Burke Catholic. The Mounties’ defense choked off every attempted rush and forced weak shots from bad angles which were easily turned aside by Stark.
Burke’s goalie played an amazing game, stopping dozens of shots from in close in a relentless offensive attack by Suffern. Frustration was evident for several of the BC players ( #97 and #7) as they took chippy penalties throughout the contest, eventually resulting in the game misconduct ejection of #97 for his fifth minor penalty of the game.
Looking forward to tomorrow night’s game at 8:30 pm @ SOR. Any update available on the Lakeland Panas/ Highlands game?
BC always takes chippy penalties. Thats the danger section 1 teams have when playing teams like that.
Mamaroneck stopped inviting Burke to their tournament because of their conduct. They are traditionally chippy and poor sportsmanship.
Pelham takes second in the Mohawk Tournament behind a talented Amhearst team.

top 4 advance to playoffs
Looks like things have been pretty quiet the past few days. – Mamaroneck and Suffern taking care of business – CHSHL people continuing to pump up their league, just enough so that the rest of us notice, but stopping dangerously close to the point where it makes me want to eat my blackberry. – A couple more “Under the Helmet” features…keep them coming! – A Journal News poll that interests me…(although I think it should exclude the two outdoor rinks…I mean, How is the Ice Hutch supposed to claim it’s rightful crown?) – And Bundy showing his obvious disdain for Pelham. I think he must have dated a girl from Pelham back in the 80s. Did she make fun of the Bundy mullet?
By the way…Viola Rd. predicting mamo over rye 5-2 with an empty netter…best post of 2009.
Keep up the good work Mike
Happy New Year everyone

The other problem with non section / prep / or other games… A section 1 team plays a non section team and the non team starts a fight. Section 1 team player gets into a situation where the non throws a punch. In general, the refs throw out both players regardless of the situation when they see something like that. Now the section 1 kid is out for four games. The non section 1kid goes back to his team. This used to come up in the white plains tourney as well when the catholic schools had different rules. Just a thought.
Old School Mountie-
I realize it’s a little late for this (Taking the week off from work and woke up a little late), but since no one else posted it for you and it wasn’t in the paper, Northern Highlands beat LP 5-4. Close, evenly matched game. I think if the other Belger was on the ice, it could have been the difference maker. LP up 1-0 after 1 and 2-1 after 2. Highlands put up four goals in the third.
I don’t foresee LP up at West Point come Feburary (Hard to imagine it would be anything other than Suffern/Mamk up there), but they will be a very tough out come playoff time. NH/Suffern should be a good matchup tonight as should Burke/LP.
Stupid comment NED Pigby “CHSHL people continuing to pump up their league, just enough so that the rest of us notice, but stopping dangerously close to the point where it makes me want to eat my blackberry.”
Ah Ned,
Didn’t we all have Barry Melrose mullets in the 80’s?...and I don’t know if the Pelham girls would have went for the city kids …I’ll cop to being a bit of “cousine” (guido for the un-initiated) back in the day.
But I love Pelham… I just haven’t found the rationale to put them ahead of Mamo, Suff, Rye, Fordham, WP, Lakeland, SH/I, North. There win against New Rochelle doesn’t quite do it. But I’ll say this..I wouldn’t want to see them in a playoff game.
and since Ned has already got me to post, (I had intended to stay off the blogs today!), I’ll comment on Lakeland/Panas. I thought they needed a good Suffern Tournament showing to move into the top 4 teams, past Fordham and White Plains. With the close lose to a good Northern Highlands teams, they should remain in the 5 to 7 range of rankings.
It was not a bad lose (Highlands is a good team), but for now L/P’s best win has been against a Burke Catholic team that Suffern easiliy beat. BC also was beat rather easily by Monroe-Woodbury who North was competitive with and Mamo had no problem with…hope you follow.
Without looking at L/P’s remaining schedule, it seems they’ll have to wait for playoffs to enhance there schedule.
Happy New Year! no posting until Sunday is my resolution.
hey CHSHL
I tried to sneak that in there…hoped you wouldn’t notice.
what’s with the anger?...ease up…just having fun
I thought you guys were into the whole “forgive and forget…turn the other cheek” thing.

Ned, be careful the PC police might be banning you for:
I thought you guys were into the whole “forgive and forget…turn the other cheek” thing.
some good stuff posted today. The poll on the rinks I am at Brewster quite often its clearly the coldest at least Mt Vernon has heaters in the stands. CHSHL yes agree its all over the place. Schedules are hap hazard with too much time between games the top teams playing each other too many times and the level is down a bit
In regards to the rankings there are a few teams with nice win loss records. Problem is that the wins are against low skill level teams. I like New Rochelle with 7 wins but who have they beat thats good? The one game against a decent team Pelham they lost 5-1 and I understand Pelham was missing its top scorer and one of the top D men
LoHud – Thank you for the game summary. I agree that tonight’s LP/BC and Suffern/NH games should be fun to watch.
Coldest rinks not listed:
RCDS
Bear Mountain
Pawlings
Brewster at least has a good place to eat.
If they don’t play Mamaroneck or Suffern this season, I would like to see Lakeland Panas play a power ranking #5-7 range team – like White Plains, Clarkstown North, etc. – before we even rank LP above these teams. LP might not be able to beat a White Plains or a North.
RCDS… Brrrrrrr!!!! I always freeze there. And could they have any smaller locker rooms?! Please, hockey players do grow past Mite age. Poor planning on their part. What were they thinking.
I definitely think that RCDS and Pawling take the cake, and I’ve been to many a freezing cold practice at Bear Mountain. Sometimes it actually snows from the ceiling at Trinity-Pawling! A safe, happy, and healthy new year to all!
