I had a little free time so I stopped in to watch Yorktown and Brewster finish up a rough-and-tumble game and was inspired to put up a new poll.
Click away.
Oh yeah, Matt Williams pushed the puck under the goalie 59 seconds into overtime, giving Yorktown a 5-4 win. It was a wild finish. Matt Bentson scored with 8.5 seconds to play in regulation after Brewster pulled the goalie, then had another high-percentage shot turned away after the ensuing faceoff.
“Joe Bonitatibus gave me a pass, I shot and it went behind the net,” said Cornhuskers senior Joe Castellano. “It went behind the net, and they popped it out to Scott Schneider. I was on the right side, facing the net, all of the sudden I see a shot. I couldn’t tell who tipped it in, Joe or Matt. They’re still arguing in the locker room.”
Yorktown is skating with a lot of confidence and purpose, which comes from having 16 seniors. The group is also very physical, and probably spends too much time in the box.
Despite a 2-9 record, there is nothing wrong right now with the Bears. They just need to gain some experience and a couple of pounds. It’s a young team that is gambling too much on defense. Keep an eye on Joseph Wegwerth, an eighth-grader, who more than stood up to the older guys on the ice.
