We’re always looking to improve our local sports coverage in new and exciting ways (like Varsity Central Live), and here’s the next step: we are planning to stream tomorrow’s Mamaroneck-Suffern hockey game LIVE on our web site. Just follow this link: www.lohud.com/vcsports2.
Of course, that’s assuming there is a game at all. I hope everyone gets their hockey fix tonight, because it’s not looking good for tomorrow. Five games have already been postponed (Ossining-North Rockland, White Plains-E/T/B, Fox Lane-Somers/NS and Nyack/TZ-Pearl River Update: AND Mount Pleasant-Clarkstown North), with more to follow I’m sure. I’m told at Hommocks the decision will be made by noon. Here’s what’s currently left for Saturday:
Byram Hills vs. Pawling at Trinity/Pawling Ice Rink, 10 a.m.
Suffern vs. Mamaroneck at Hommocks Ice Arena, 8:10 p.m.
Lakeland vs. Sleepy Hollow/Irvington at Sport-O-Rama, 9 p.m.
Stepinac vs. Chaminade at Hutchinson Ice Arena, 10 p.m.
And here are the big games tonight:
John Jay-Pelham: A possible sectional semifinal preview? Both teams could be missing some key players (John Jay had three mainstays out yesterday against White Plains, while Pelham had four guys out on Monday and needed to move Mamone back to defense). I like Pelham’s depth here. Pelham 5-2.
North Rockland-Suffern: Suffern dominated last year, winning 10-3, its biggest scoring output of the season. Suffern 6-2.
New Rochelle-Somers/North Salem: Lets see how New Ro bounces back from its first adversity of the season, a loss to Byram Hills. New Ro 5-4.
Yorktown-Scarsdale: Both teams are looking for their first League 2 win (though Scarsdale’s only game was against C North). This one should be entertaining. Scarsdale 4-2.
Stepinac-Farrell: This one is for first place in the CHSHL. Stepinac lost to Farrell 6-5 but has since won four straight. Stepinac 5-4.
Carmel-Pearl RIver: Pearl RIver beat Carmel 5-2 last weekend at Sport-O. Another win would put itself a strong second in League 4, but I like Carmel to bounce back. Carmel 4-3.
Mamaroneck-Mahopac: Mamaroneck won the first meeting 7-2 when they were short-handed. But it better not get caught looking ahead to tomorrow when it goes up Brewster. Mamaroneck 6-3.
If anyone has updates, postponement information or predictions (please label them as predictions), feel free to post them here. I’ll be back tomorrow with a recap of tonight’s action.
